USC tailback Stephen Carr will be sidelined at least three months because of a herniated disc in his back, which means he will miss spring practice. He is not expected to require surgery.
Maybe the question is how Carr injured his back? If it happened during a workout, it would provide fodder for those critical of USC’s strength and conditioning program.
Carr was never injured in high school but this is his second setback at USC. He missed four games last season with a foot injury and never regained his form from earlier in the season.
He is expected to be the Trojans’ starting tailback next season. USC will need to rely on Vavae Malepeai and Aca’Cedric Ware during spring drills.
Many things could have caused this. Maybe he did not lift correctly, maybe he picked up something incorrectly when reaching for it, maybe he tweaked during stretching or running. If and when he says, then we will know.

Same problem year after year, SC has far too many injuries, strength and conditioning has to get better soon.

Bigger league bigger problems. He should be great next season, but USC need to assess how and why he got injured and address this first.

Could a better S&C program have helped this from happening?
