Some Thursday morning notes:
- I’m told two USC staff members were assigned to take cornerback Jack Jones to classes during the spring semester. Even before he was suspended for spring practice, he reportedly was not attending classes.
USC has not officially announced Jones is ineligible. But Jones has cleaned out his locker at the McKay Center.
- The USC baseball plays its final three games beginning tonight vs. Cal State Northridge at Dedeaux Field. The Trojans (25-26) must win two of their final three games to finish .500. After that, it will be up to Lynn Swann to decide whether to retain USC baseball coach Dan Hubbs.
- USC wide receiver Joseph Lewis plead guilty to two counts of domestic violence (willfully inflicting corporal injury resulting in a traumatic condition upon a victim). He was sentenced to 36 months probation and 60 days in county jail.
- Former USC track and field assistant coach Laszlo Tabori died Wednesday. He was 86. Tabori was the third man to break the four-minute barrier in the mile on May 28, 1955 with a time of 3:59, joining Roger Bannister and John Landy. He set 1,500-meters world record (3:40.8) in 1955.
I hope Lewis learns from his mistakes. Last Chance U Season 4?

Paul —I’ve seen Disney’s working script. Lewis, as a result of eating some mysterious prison meatloaf, acquires magical powers and flies out of the exercise yard to rescue USC during the final minutes of the Texas game.

If you read between the lines, there’s a lot of good news in Scott’s piece today.

P.S.
Good to see that the powerful and influential and well respected (and feared) USC Faculty Senate is asking for the President’s head. Max must be shaking in his boots.

Michael, I hope he is doing more than that. I hope he is buying the Greek Restaurant up in Baker, CA. I hope he is gone by tomorrow.

P.T.—Why didn’t Max hire Neil Callaway as Chief Morality Enforcer and Sole Designated Defendant In Future Lawsuits?

Michael,
Because even the Mad Greek knows that Callaway would have more holes and be the incompetent enforcer just like he is as the oline coach.

P.T. —But wouldn’t it have been fun to listen to Neil’s presser?

Even if Trojan baseball sweeps it is time for Hubbs to depart. Lousy Pac- 12 record of 12 – 18 by memory. Lost 8 out of 9 to the top three teams of
OSU, ucla, and Stanford by very large margins. Pitching is so wild with Walks, WP, Balks, and HBP which is supposed to be Hubbs strength.
