A Recruit That Got Away From USC

Nebraska tailback Johnny Rodgers won the Heisman Trophy in 1972 and a two-time consensus All-American.

But when he was in high school, he wrote a letter to USC saying he was interested in playing for the Trojans.

What happened? A USC coach read the letter and never got back to Rodgers.

Was this the biggest recruiting blunder?

  1. No … SC had Anthony Davis and Lynn Swann. Also won 2 national titles in that time.
Rodgers was from Omaha with an armed robbery conviction on him, he wasn’t going to USC regardless.

  2. I thought by now someone would have pointed out the recruiting of the current linemen or maybe all of those clowns who walked away from a scholarship because they were a legend in their own mind.

  3. Actually missing out on Elway hurt more than Dickerson … and would had been less expensive lol.
USC with those great defensive players and Elway 1980-1982 would had never missed a beat.
