USC Morning Buzz: King Kliff Coronation Continues

Kliff

There is already a T-shirt on Kliff Kingsbury coming to USC.

Not an attractive shirt but a shirt.

How many national titles have been won by teams running an Air Raid offense, by the way?

Like I said, he is a good hire, but there is such a desperation among a segment of USC fans they are going overboard over his arrival.

Also this: Clancy Pendergast’s defense will probably spend more time on the field next season because of the Air Raid offense. Does that sound good?

Meanwhile, here’s a report on how donors are unhappy with USC and Lynn Swann.

  1. This shirt is just plain dumb. Not for Flow’s sake, I’m sure he wish it would be printed like a soccer jersey instead…But c’mon, this dude hasn’t done anything yet. We all hope this is a good hire and sparks the offense next season, but let’s hold off on the cute shirts for now. Bad look for USC. At least they didn’t hold a press conference for this hire, or at least not yet. That would look even worse.

  2. You need to calm down and relax. Yes, Helton stinks, yes next season will probably be a disaster. But the season just ended. Do you have a hobby?

  3. Kingsbury is an exceptional hire, given the circumstances with a head coach who may be fired next year, and an AD who is on the hot seat.

Like Chow, Kingsbury will figure out how to use talent that he has in the most productive way. This is an enormous upgrade and fans are deservedly excited.

  4. It is only good for the defense if the offense is scoring 45-50 ppg. Clancy is a good coordinator. B grade. The offense last year did not produce enough points AND did not possess the ball enough to give the D a break.

If we can score this year, the D will do enough to enable us to win games. We are just going to be one of those teams that will need to outscore the opposition (I know, obvious statement). I think we will be higher scoring, and if we can hold the other guys to 30-35/game, we will win more than we lose. 8-4 maybe?

    1. Not true. KK’s offense effed up his defense. No ball control, in the top 5 in turnovers and penalties, pass to run ratio (and those are downfield passes not screens and tosses). That leaves a defense constantly in bad field position, unrested, a DC with his squad running on and off the field endlessly. That’s why Air Raid offenses put up numbers but don’t win.

  5. Wolf brings up good points. I think the same in many ways. He’s no sunshine pumper and that’s good. KK is a great hire, and just a step in the right direction, not the entire solution.

  6. The truth is, aside from the popular belief that the offense will improve with KK, we still can’t draw the pictures on what kind of season the team will have in 2019 because there are so many other variables. What about the problematic culture of the team? Disciplines? Leadership? The defense that didn’t exactly show it was on the top level? And last but not least, the quality of the competition from the opposing teams? This will be a case where you don’t know what’s in the bottle until you open it.

  7. Weren’t there Booty and Moody T-shirts at one time? It is all in good fun. Everything doesn’t have to be DEFCON 5 serious.
