USC Fires Jovan Vavic And Donna Heinel

UPDATED: USC water polo coach Jovan Vavic and senior associate athletic director Donna Heinel were fired this afternoon by the university.

Here is the statement:

Following Vavic’s dismissal, Casey Moon is USC’s interim women’s water polo coach and Marko Pintaric is the interim men’s water polo coach.

Below is my original post.

Vavic was arrested in Hawaii this morning, according to a published report.

Vavic was staying in Waikiki with the women’s water polo team, which plays Hawaii on Saturday.

Ironically, Vavic, who has won 16 national titles, has not yet been suspended by USC but he has been arrested and indicted.

UPDATED: Donna Heinel was also arrested earlier today.

James –I’ve been listening to legal experts discuss the possibility that the bribes were “shared” with the university and that what has been presently revealed “is only the tip of the iceberg.” A lot of stuff that comes out in the initial stages of a major investigation turns out to be bullshit –but —this story has the potential for getting much worse.
      I guess “We’re #1!” may take on a new meaning in the 21st century…

      1. I agree that this is only the tip of the iceberg. We now have Alan Dershowitz running off at the mouth about this being the scandal of the century and pointing out all the inequities of grades no longer being given out. Everything is pass/fail everyone gets a B like a participation trophy. Everything in life is now being bastardized royally by the elites who want it all the easy way, to pay for it.

      2. M.L. — We’re in the early stages of a sea shift in athletics and education. All the admissions crap that was lurking a quarter of an inch beneath the surface is gonna come out in the following months. That doesn’t bode well for a university that has been cockily floating along for the last decade. All those who felt above scrutiny (that includes you, BOT) are gonna start feeling the heat for their longstanding & ongoing breaches of fiduciary duty.

  5. I know Pudly is disappointed but look on the bright side! No one was SODOMIZED because of this scandal!! Also, lay off of Lynn Swann! He is a victim in all of this!

      1. Don’t laugh, tebow. The theory of the athletic department dimension of this prosecution is that some coaches were helping get students into school on athletic scholarships — students who would never actually participate in sports —but nevertheless be allowed to stay in school after immediately “sustaining injuries” that prevented them from being actively involved on teams….. hmmmm.

        Also, how dumb were these kids that got into southern cal that needed their parents to bribe someone??!! These must’ve been who got rejected from being home schooled! Think of it they are perfect for southern cal!!

  6. Reggie Bush was crucified by USC because his parents received a loan…USC adminstrators took bribes.

    The USC Board of Trustees need to be held accountable for allowing Max Nikias to carry out the university’s Lack of Institutional Control.

    1. tebow—So far we’ve only been discussing the criminal aspect of this mess. Can you imagine the civil aspect? Think about all the students who have been denied admission as a result of these scams. The # of possible lawsuits actually scares me.

        Center mass – given the drift of the US SC and the burning desire of many, and not just on one side of the aisle, to take up issues surrounding admissions…some of which is already under way…yikes! They say there are parts of Big Sur no human has ever set foot on…one would suspect that, one way or another (gonna gitchyuhgitchyuhgitchyuh)…some of the Helltanic’s top brass might find their way there…

I don’t see why the fbi is involved in mostly matters of a civil nature. ..where is the security of the country involved, the national interest/defense? who cares what a private business does to help someone gain a fake degree or whatever they get, they were not defrauded, they know it is manipulation…sounds like the court system and todays media…who passed a law stating you can’t cheat on grades…hell, you will have to throw all public school teachers/unions in prison…compared to real education and schools before the 70’s school is a joke incl inflated grades and inflated SAT’s.

    2. Because that 59 year old ‘Singer’ was using a ‘non-profit’ as his vehicle for ‘donations’ and then the extra kicker – the parents got to use that for a tax deduction – federal violations and then some.

  9. No justifying or defending this. Our athletic department is worse than a dumpster fire. It is corrupt and or ineffectual. Whatever changes need to made should be done right now. Let the heads roll.
