USC Morning Buzz: JT Daniels Gets Summer Job

JT Daniels is one of 25 college quarterbacks selected to be a counselor at the Manning Passing Academy this summer. Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence is also a counselor. Maybe Lawrence can teach Daniels something about living up to the hype.

  • USC wide receivers coach Keary Colbert was in Honolulu on Wednesday recruiting. Linebackers coach Johnny Nansen and defensive backs coach Greg Burns were at a showcase at St. John Bosco.

  1. Lawrence can’t teach J. T. anything (unless it’s possible to teach QB’s how to get taller). But maybe J.T. can work with Trevor on how to handle the media in the unlikely event Clemson goes on a 5 game losing streak. I like the “people who criticize coach don’t know football’….

    1. He could teach JT
      1. what it’s like to have time to throw
      2. how to play in an offensive system that actually has options from the same formation
      3. how not to worry about where or when the snap is delivered
      4. what it’s like to come out at halftime with adjustments in a game plan
      5. how it feels to be set up for success
      6. what it’s like to have a blogger who’s supportive and accurate in his assessment

Nah, number 6 is never going to happen…

      1. If, by some miracle, J. T. gets 1-5 to come true, he won’t need #6….
        #…WhichIsGoodCuzHeAin’tGonnaGetIt…..
        P. S.
He’s not gonna get 1-5 either. Helton is kind and smart —but he’s soft. He’s not a con man —he believes in his product [because he doesn’t see it’s defects].
I’m betting that, even after fall practice, Coach Helton won’t say to Drevno “you’re failing.”
Head Coaching Drill #1: A coach that puts up with uninspired o-line play should never say “Happy Tuesday” to everybody at the start of each
        practice week.

      2. It’s not his job to criticize Drevno. It’s his job to criticize Harrell. who’s responsible for the offense. If the blocking fails, it’ll be up to Harrell to fix it either by scheme or by making staff changes.

      3. True, Pudly — But I’m guessing that, if Graham had his druthers, he’d have his own Air Raid guy as that position coach…. [and I’m pretty sure he didn’t & doesn’t have the pull to get rid of Drevno] ……

      4. Considering his (Clay) professional life I at stake, I think Graham has whatever pull he wants.
The clock is ticking and the first six games will most likely tell the tale.

      5. Ah yes, Dear Pusley, the sorry crackhead, does his habitual, woeful, bozo excuses, excuses, excuses, excuses, excuses, excuses, excuses, excuses, excuses, excuses routine.

Obviously, Dear Pusley has a heavy man love crush on JT the mediocre.

Pusley thinks that Felony U should rent the NE Pat O/L so JT has 12 – 15 to seconds to decide which jersey to throw to.

Pusley whines po, po, po JT isn’t set up for success. LOL! JT was given a guarantee he would start as a rookie freshman, regardless of the fact that JT is a massively overrated QB, with the leg speed of a glacier, an alligator arm, and very tiny hands.

Pusley, you know what CK says about QB hands – the larger the better.

Lastly Pusley Dear, good QB’s make their own success on the field with the team at hand. Whiny excuses, excuses, excuses from rah-rah crackheads with Tinker Bell fantasies will not turn JT the pumpkin into a Russel Wilson for on second.

      8. He will spin anything and everything against JT. If JT threw for 500 yds and went 29/30, scottie would say Sears could’ve completed that pass…

      9. Pudly — Although you are a much stronger apologist for the program, I actually probably have more affection for Clay Helton (as a man, not as a coach). Clay’s professional life was on the line —and he knew it —after the drubbings he took from Notre Dame and Ohio State. Most coaches would have said a very quick goodbye to a burned out coach like Callaway —but Helton kept him out of an old fashioned —but misplaced —sense of loyalty. I believe that sense of loyalty now extends to Pendergast and Drevno. (So) I actually don’t agree that Coach Helton has given Harrell the run of the ship —-I think Harrell is operating under certain constrictions which he —hopefully—is clever enough to overcome. And I think Drevno is one of them. [Pendergast will be fine —despite all the criticism on this site and his ouchy personality, Pendergast’s game plans against Washington in Seattle and Stanford in the Pac 12 Championship were brilliant].

      10. Drevno came back last year after abandoning us for harbaugh at stanfurd… I don’t think it’s nearly what you make it out to be. But then that’s what makes the world go round…
For the teams sake, let’s hope Harrell runs the offense. Period.

      11. “The blogger”‘s assessment is spot-on accurate regarding J. T.

Regarding “being supportive”, that’s not the blogger’s job, but rather J. T.’s mommie or his friends. (Or you.)

  2. I think JT would of performed better if he had the Clemson Tigers team around him. No the s…t show that was around him. This is a team that clearly dominated and supressed Alabama. Let’s get real.

  3. The Manning Camp tends to require a lot of throwing. I’m not sure that’s always a good move. Of course, you do it for exposure and politeness, but, it can have an affect on your arm…..

    1. I think Sam Darnold came home a little worn, went into fall camp, and, had lingering affects of the Mannings overusing the rising star. Would Sam ever say anything or, for that matter, anyone else? No. But, there’s more to this than the Manning dynasty.

      1. Sam Darnold went to the Nike “the Opening Camp/Elite 11” and set a record in the counselors QB competition AFTER the Maniing camp and before fall camp. He missed almost all summer workouts/PRPs that summer.
        So again you’re just full of crap….I said C R A P !!

      2. McGhghy —Are you referring to Sam allowing a qb coach to mess with his throwing motion during the summer before fall camp 2017? Even if the ‘fix’ was necessary —-he didn’t seem entirely comfortable with it throughout the 2017 season……

    2. I think Jack Sears is best for USC. But, if you really want to protect JT, this should be a “lookout, beware” camp. The camp that matters starts when he returns home.
