A couple USC coaches told me last week not to be surprised if Clay Helton made freshman quarterback Kedon Slovis No. 2 on the depth chart.
Slovis had a good practice Tuesday after a rocky scrimmage Saturday but has potential.
The question for me is whether Helton would rock the position by actually making his oldest quarterbacks (Jack Sears, Matt Fink) the last choices?
Neither would probably be thrilled although I’m not sure why Fink is still around since he already graduated. Sears is in a different spot. He doesn’t graduate until December.
Helton seems to avoid upsetting players, unless it is his stubborn devotion to JT Daniels and Toa Lobendahn, so making Slovis No. 2 might be against his character. But people are talking about it at USC.
- Fresno State tailback Jordan Mims, who rushed for 436 yards and had 286 yards receiving last season, will miss the 2019 season with because of foot/ankle injuries.
- USC beat a Lithuania select team, 105-83, in Paris. Onyeka Okongwu scored 22 points.
