Here is what Clay Helton said about wide receiver Devon Williams entering the NCAA Transfer Portal.
Oh wait, Helton does not speak to the media on Wednesdays. I wrote before the season it would be interesting who speaks for the program when news happens on a Wednesday. Not Helton.
- Meanwhile, I heard from a source today that Lynn Swann signed a non-disclosure agreement with USC. Ironic because the word was Swann made men’s tennis coach Peter Smith sign a similar agreement. So don’t expect to hear anything revealing from Swann about his firing.
Not that he ever had anything insightful or revealing to say.
Wonder what the ‘pay out’ aka ‘begone’ amount was to see him off the campus?

He came in ’16, so he would have had 2 years left, assuming his current contract was for 5 years, which is pretty standard.
Maybe the gave him one year’s worth of salary? Less?

My guess is he gets paid through the remainder of this school year (June 2020). I’ve negotiated hundreds of employment contracts and they all contain some form of a “performance” clause. SC probably took the approach that he violated this or another clause in his contract and then offered a sum to sign the NDA. I also believe this has been in the works for some time and he was aware of it. No way he gets blindsided and signs on the spot without discussing with his lawyer. California labor law does not allow for the immediate signing of a Separation Agreement.
More likely, his lawyer has been hammering out a settlement for three weeks.

Let me see.. You like Lynn Swann’s handling of the Athletic Department?
And the shit hasn’t even hit the fan from the FBI’s probe.
And I’m sure you think Helton is the second coming of Nick Saban!
What rock have you been hiding under these past Two years?
Scott is one of many Sportswriters that are critical of the USC Athletic Department..
The Football.Team hasn’t played anybody yet.

Even if Helton did speak, he wouldn’t say much about a player in the transfer portal.

He would say this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0BTdo6qGwo

I heard Pudly was so distraught over Swann that he was seen in the castro dressed like the character “Buffalo Bill” from the move Silence of the Lambs.

Pudly 76 is a USC insider, wannabe, and would love to trade places with Scott Wolf, or Petros Papadakis. Which is why he hates them both, and constantly criticized them, even though they’ve been right on all counts for years 😂

With everything going on with this team what does this matter? The coach never speaks on Wednesdays and the story is that the coach didn’t speak on Wednesday? That must be some ax you have there because you just grind on and on and on.

Clay — Helton is concentrating on beating BYU —he knows the statute of limitations on fretting over the significance of the Swann departure ends with a win over BYU.

I think he’s good now. BTW, I saw Clancy do an interview today and he talked about Gaoteote and I think what you told me was essentially correct. It sounds like he only wants to give him half of the field right now. He didn’t talk about his future, but my guess is that he moves inside at some point. We’d be extremely strong up the middle and that’s how you want to be in general.

So, we’re all excited about the offense and yet I look at this defense and I’m seeing players all over the place. If this defense can consistently take the ball away from teams and give this offense extra possessions, things will get ugly and teams will quit. I know we’re all political in here, but I call it like I see it. You know what I don’t see when I look at the way the coaches are employing this talent? A good way to beat ’em… I’ve literally
thought about how I would play against this team and I don’t have anything I’m confident about on either side of the ball. If you don’t see that this team is special, you either don’t know what you’re looking at or you just don’t want to see it. My guess is that it’s both for you guys who like to ride Wolf’s vibe. That must suck. If you’re really fans of USC football, just allow yourself to be, it’s okay. You don’t have to root for your team to lose as Wolf stands there with his skirt and pop poms rooting you on.

Yes, there is a ton of talent on this team, as there was in ’16, with Darnold. This team has a ton of potential and I really hope that they can figure out how to realize that.

67, they’re up to something good and it’s building. They can be better than that ’16 team because they have a system now. That ’16 team was a kind of a “seat of your pants” thing and it was a fun ride, but what we’re riding now is a horse of another color.

Clay —I’d be willing to bet money Scott doesn’t believe half the stuff he posts —-but he knows that he must be doing something right if he’s consistently quadrupling what the other USC sites are getting in terms of hits. He just ran a poll and way over 1000 people responded. Things are good for Scott. And he’s not gonna change.
But what we can’t forget —unless we’re easily hypnotized by fake negativity— is that USC’s football team has a VERY high ceiling this season. A team with this much talent that also happens to believe in itself can literally beat anybody. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves….

That’s a very thoughtful statement, MG. I guess being the National Enquirer of USC football writing could be lucrative, but what about all these other guys? Why do they do it?

The only answer I can give you, Clay, is the unusually honest & sincere & tortured one Robert Kennedy gave when asked why he would want to be President after what happened to his brother —- “I don’t know, I…don’t…know, I don’t know, I don’t….know….”

In response to your post quoting RFK: The problem is that they are so invested in their position that there is no good way out of it. Even if they want to turn over a new leaf, they would expose themselves as the morons I already see them to be. It’s not a tenable situation.

Where does it all lead? USC beats Utah, Washington & Notre Dame —-and the haters take out ads in the New York Times demanding that the playoffs be cancelled this season “cuz football is stupid”…..

“Not that he ever had anything insightful or revealing to say,” writes Wolf. Now this is a subject Wolf knows a great deal about.
