Mike Bohn Won’t Tip Hand

USC athletic director Mike Bohn did not want to speak to reporters after the UCLA game:

“Not today, we just beat the Bruins.”

He did say this about UCLA.

“I beat ’em (UCLA) twice in the same year.”

That includes Cincinnati defeating UCLA earlier this season.

Did you hear Kirk Herbstreit defend Helton on the Oregon-Arizona State game? Just like Brian Greise did at the USC-UCLA game.

Here’s another take:

  1. Whew! That was a nail biter but glad the Trojans beat UCLA and now Coach Clay Helton will be here for at least couple of more years!

Franklin??!! the dude lost to Clay Helton and the Trojans! Why is his name coming up all the time? Urban Meyer had some success but he is a womanizer and not a good God fearing man like Clay Helton is! Meyer was around mormon country and coached super christian Tim Tebow yet he is a god forsaken pagan!!

    1. It all it takes to get 2 more years of a $4 million salary is to beat this year’s version of the brubabies, then there should be a line a mile long filling out employment applications outside Heritage Hall.

      1. Man ever watch Herman when things go south? He’s going to have to do a ‘Brian Kelly’ (fire his entire staff – Kelly had no problem with that cause’ he hasn’t any friends) Herman is more like Scott Frost. “..hey it worked in Houston, it just has to work here!”

Herman’s Longhorns tied for 5th with KS St. in the Big 12.

      2. Yeah, reality bit Coach Herrmann in the arse this year, No?
Had his whole team returning from their 2018, Bowl winning (vs LSU?) season and is looking at 7-5? I was envious of UT going into this season.
They lost some tough games–likely mailed in the rest of the season.
        Quit.

UT does have an AWESOME recruiting class to date….hmmmm.
Might the Trojans poach some of that talent from the Lone Star State?

      1. Michael, does Scottie give Slovis a solid A, or even an A+, instead of the previous ceiling of an A-, on his report card for this game?

Or does the fact that Westwood’s defense, being worse than most JC’s in the state, keep it at an A-?

        Liked by 3 people

      2. To retain credibility Scott has to give USC record breaking Slovis an “A” —-especially since at least 2 of his great passes were dropped —once by St. Brown and once by Michael Pittman.

      3. Helton is Eddie Haskell. Helton’s investment in protecting his players is saving his ass. He should get credit for recruiting them though. What is evident is that Clancy Pendergast needs to go. Utah, Ohio State, LSU and Bama have a strong D. Our linebackers are weak.

  2. All we can do is pray that USC admin knows the difference between winning games over the pathetic pac 12 and having a coach that can make us a national power.

  3. I am still puzzled by what Helton said again after the game. He said” Glory to God “again. What does that mean? And, I do agree with Fred Flintstone; I too hope the administration sees the light.

      1. So what does that leave the Bruins saying, “God sucks”? Helton seem nice, and yet very simple in his thinking about football and God.

      2. Chris, does it also mean that God was on our side and not UCLA’s? Does it have anything to do with winning? Or is it just a feel good statement? You do not have to answer unless you want to. But, I am grateful you responded.

      1. I disagree Bohn’s statement about beating UCLA twice is just another evasion of the critical decision that has to be made. He receives no support here. Just make the decision without resorting to avoidance statements. We have had that for the last several years and I am sick of it.

  4. So, the Ducks, lost…the Huskies are losing…Utah is winning, but struggling, against Arizona…the Pacifist 12 SUCKS….I don’t want to hear that the Pacifist 12 is beating itself up….the conference sucks…and that’s why Helton will survive…the Pacifist 12 is mediocre…and that’s the way the presidents of the schools like it…what a joke…by next season in the Pacifist 12, there will be safe space protocol tents next to the concussion protocol tents…if you fumble, throw a pick, miss a fg, miss a tackle, etc., there will be psychoanalysis available immediately to help pick you up…

    1. Most of the Pac-12 presidents couldn’t give a rat’s ass about their football programs, but they do like the money they get from it.

Ironically, they don’t know that the athletics money pie could be so much bigger. They are too busy figuring out how many “safe spaces” they need per 1,000 square feet of building space on their campuses.

    2. Ben, this might be a redundant posting of mine. If so, please excuse.
Given the truths you lay out above, maybe the pac 12 should expand?
It was mentioned earlier that UCD, SDSU, Colorado State Western etc could join.

Much like the bizarre Conference USA. I always liked their moniker.
      C-USA…exCUSA me!

Having added US teams to the Pac, our moniker would of course be
      C-PUSS.

Pacifist 12 is also appropriate, but it really insults Utah.

    3. Yes! The biggest threat to USC and the PAC 12 sports is actually the West Coast political correctness that is creeping in at all schools.
Non aggression and non competitive go hand in hand with that thinking. Read the Trojan Family Magazine lately? You should, it shows where ISC is putting its priorities.

  5. I left Los Angeles for NOLA at 12:10 pm for Thanksgiving vacation. We arrived at the NOLA airport near the middle of the 4th quarter. Walking through the place the family spotted a sports bar with two screens showing the game. We stopped for a few seconds to see a bruin running back scuttling up the field and the Trojan defense playing the keystone cops. When they finally ran the guy out of bounds a bar patron yelled, “ha! too bad USC we got your coach and you can’t have him back.”
    Thank God we won.

My niece’s wedding on a Saturday night – Jack Del Rio attended as a guest of her father – close by neighbor. The Raiders had a ‘bye’ that Sunday (13th Nov.)

14-12, Jimmy Jones, the amazing Sam Dickerson, Clarence Davis, the Wild Bunch, and may that front four all rest in peace, particularly after today’s whooping of Westwood.

McKay really loved that team. Amazing defense and overachievers on offense.

      1. I guess I am one of the dummies . I did want to win but if it meant keeping Helton I would rather lose. I am more concerned about our greatness than one win. What I have learned is: if one is not careful you can get used to being average and that is not attractive to me.
Average means you do enough to get by and pass. That is a C.

Up shot, SUCCX gets the Vic Bell and Helton for another year LOL.

Gosh MG, that sounds like some sort of a Pyrrhic victory. What’s it going to be, another year of your whiny “coach gotta go,” coach gotta go.”

Personally, MG, I’m surprised you haven’t start whining about how bad the ref’s treated SUCCX or what a shitty game Helton coached. You’re never on the fence there.

  9. Slovis puts up 52 (by the way it was Opie who wanted to make Slovis the starter from day 1, NOT Gomer) and I find myself on the edge of my seat on the 4th and 1 to stop UCLA on the final drive or SC is hanging on AGAIN to hold off a team that is way inferior. If Gomer were serious about retaining his job he would fire Baxter and Clancy TODAY, stop the God references during interviews (we know you are devout but leave Him out of the conversation), and demonstrate your confidence in your abilities by not kissing your boss’ ass so obviously.

But we know Gomer won’t do any of that, and he will not make changes unless ordered to do so by his AD, and then it will only be half hearted changes.

    2. Such smart observations, Calabasas. But might I add a thought? I believe that, deep down, Helton would like to get as far away from Baxter and Pendergast as is humanly and geographically possible. He just lacks the guts to look them both in the eyes and say the magic words…..in short, he needs somebody ELSE to point him in a new direction —-by way of pink slip.

      1. Humbly disagree. I think CCH would fire CP instantly if he, Helton, thought he had the cachet to go out an hire a top 10 DC.

  10. Here we go again. What was once a done deal a couple of weeks ago is now a maybe. It is time for a coaching change no matter what. There should be no possibilities of Helton coming back. He has had his chance and it wasn’t good enough. We all know that we will never be at the top with him in charge. Can you imagine this team in the next couple of years with a top coach! I can and the future is right now! Make the move Monday! Bring in those recruits!

    1. You know what I DON’T WANT to imagine, GT? Helton vs Saban in our opener next year. We can go back and forth on all the fun possibilities that exist in the coaching search —but Alabama in the opener is a reality. Bohn needs to dwell on that long and hard.

    2. Great GT you are on target. Why even focus on the assistants. We would have the same problem if the assistants were the best in the country. This is a head coaching problem.

I* still do not know why we would hire someone who was going to be fired at UNC.She did not please the students nor the board there. She tried to take it down the middle and did not satisfy either group, the faculty and students nor the board. The students tore the confederate monument down(hid i)t and they still cannot find it. Her solution: move it to a different place on campus, trying to have it both ways. Usually good decision making , unfortunately, is about either-or eventually. Her waffling led to disdain on the part of all groups. Is this the best the search committee could do. I hear she does not approve of U if true, when did we become the morality cop? But. I will hold my judgement until I learn more. But, meanwhile I am still puzzled as to why we chose indecisiveness if my info is true.
