Mike Bohn Can Still Hit A Home Run

So it looks like Monday will close with no announcement.

I said on Petros and Money that USC athletic director Mike Bohn could still hit a home run or strike out with this hire/non-hire.

But at this minute, it looks weak. I don’t get why it’s such a big deal to fire Clay Helton and then hire a replacement. Why do you need someone in place beforehand?

I’ll be happy with almost any replacement. But this dragging out of the process made Sunday and Monday seem comical, especially when Washington handled its business seamlessly.

Like I said, Bohn can still claw back a huge victory by doing the right thing but did we need the interim drama?

  1. Guessing Folt is micromanaging the enterprise now, and that she won’t fire Helton until Bohn can show her replacement plans A, B, and C, if needed and she agrees to those plans.

Totally bizarre that Helton is out there recruiting, while the SC administration leaves him hanging, with people guessing every day if this will be the day he is cut loose. F’d up way to do business and to treat Helton.

    1. If the new AD is stupid enough to fire Clay Helton, then he will have a mutiny on his hands. I’ve been told the players will boycott the bowl game and even Andy Enfield will go on strike if Helton is fired. The women’s soccer players and coach are also watching the situation closely.

Meanwhile “the God fearing man” Clay Helton is asking the players and other coaches to stand down. Clay Helton is too good for you lousy so called fans who are asking for his firing.

      1. #1USCFAN you should really stick out at the home games because you may be the only unlousy USC football fan in attendance…have a good time watching uninspired, mistake prone, and poorly coached USC football games if they retain Helton.

      2. You don’t have a clue. Many of the players detest Gomer knowing he plays favorites and can’t develop players for the next level. Most players want him fired.

      3. Those players must be on drugs.

Also, I’ve heard that on a couple of occasions the locker room was rebelling in their attitude. This season was just like the Darnold years where the players talent outplayed its teacher in Coach Helton.

      4. Hahaha! That was a good morning laugh. You are either UCLA’s #1 fan or you forgot to take your medication. Make u pool stuff much? There was no boycott whem Sark if Kiffin were fired, and they had much, much better records than 9 Lives. Being a “nice guy” for “the kids” only goes so far. Actually, I’m excited to hear how truely awful ” the kids” think Clay is, ince they can speak freely. Im sure there will be some doozies.

    1. Ass-rash, really? The dude literally works at USC. There’s no reason he should be opining on anything USC. I’m team #FireHeltom, but to cite an assclown like Arash, I mean, c’mon.

      1. Smacky, the point here is that the LA Times is most widely read media source in L.A., where many alums live. The more public pressure to remove Helton, the better. And I haven’t found one editorial indicating he should be retained.

    1. This.
Letting a coach go before a bowl game would be worse than the current fiasco.
The only drama comes from the wolfman.

      1. Don’t shake our belief system, Cal75.
[On a serious note, if Folt or Bohn were as “moral” as they want their next coach to be, they would issue a statement upon terminating Helton acknowledging the school’s recruiting problems are as much their fault as Helton’s. The university’s “let’s bypass Urban Meyer, talk about ‘integrity’ and see how things go” philosophy scares the shit out of first tier high school players. The #77 recruiting ranking isn’t all on Helton —Folt needs to share in the glory].

  2. #1USCFAN , you must like watching mediocre undisciplined football if you want to keep Gomer. He is probably a good guy by many accounts but he is a below average football coach who has lost all trust of most USC fans. He beats the awful teams and plays down to the competition most of the time. Every once in a while he will upset a good team such as the Utah game this year. The guy is a pathetic 13-11 the last two seasons. Is that good enough for you? He is 20-17 since Sam Darnold stopped saving his ass on a weekly basis. Enough with the penalties and excuses on a weekly basis and hire a competent coach already.

  3. Wolfie seems convinced that the delay in any word from Heritage Hall means that Helton will be fired and BOHN is trying to finalize a hire before making an announcement . . . That seems logical. I bet some candidate has been flown into town for a final interview . . . Just makes no sense that USC has gone silent, can’t be good for Helton . . . AND #1 USC Fan can’t be serious about keeping Helton, my guess is that she/he is a Bruin Troll . . .

    1. If Endfield goes on strike that will be the best thing for the BB program! He can’t coach any ways. Now if this AD doesn’t fire Helton he’s as clueless as Swann and Haden and should be shown the door next year because of failure to adress the problem he was hired for in the first place for.

    1. Daniel –What people mean when they say that is “I’ll be happy with any replacement UNTIL…..”
-He gets his ass kicked by Alabama
-He loses a game by more than 2 touchdowns
-Scott runs a photo of him looking lost on the sidelines
