USC Fans Come Under Fire

USC fans are getting some criticism for not being supportive.

“It is a little frustrating because you see your fans are saying so many negative things about you,” said wide receiver Michael Pittman Tuesday. “It’s just like, ‘Wow, I thought you guys were our fans and supporting us.’ They’re not doing a lot of supporting right now.”

This confuses the issue. USC fans support the players. They do not support Clay Helton. Or Mike Bohn. Or Carol Folt. Until they earn support.

USC fans do not support incompetence. They do not support a poorly run football program. Or atrocious recruiting efforts.

They do support the players.

It’s not hard to figure out the difference.

    1. Rusoviet. The kids know but are afraid to express it for a multitude of reasons. And, they know but it is nice to let them know that we know also. I am taking this opportunity to announce that I will be sending Folt an email in the next few weeks when time permits. And, I will report back to this audience after I have done it

      1. I have now decided not to write Folt. If she is so dumb that she does not see disaster in our program, nothing I say will help. I’ll just continue to boycott . How dumb can we be.

    2. The idea that we’re still theorizing about Gomer’s coaching nuances is indeed an insane one. All of this bullshit makes me want to puke. Gomer is incompetent in every aspect of the word. Secondly, Folt and Bohn look at all of us as useless eaters. And third, everyone associated with the school is being embarrassed nationally.

      FU, Gomer, Folt and Bohn

      1. Amen PJM ! Helton is NOT a D1 CFB coach and certainly NOT worthy to be on the field leading USC. Although I will continue to root for the players I have given up my six season tickets I’ve held since yr 2000. Enough is enough! I hope we (us fans) can collectively send a message to the administration that their incompetence will not be supported by our dollars no matter what bs Folt, Bohn or freakin Helton spew out.

    3. Most USC fans have an arrogance about them second to none . This isn’t John McKay’s team , John Robinson’s team nor Pete Carroll’s team . Most of these kids who get recruited out of state want to leave the ghetto and all the problems we have . Don’t blame the coach , blame the boosters who think they know best as well as owning the team .

      1. Mike – The whole problem is the head coach. Get rid of him and the program could be turned around quickly. Clay is clueless and has been that way his whole life. He has zero integrity, as he lies every day to the fans, players, coaches and administration.

  1. Sensitive football players?!? Serious. Man up homie. Should’ve gone to a tougher football program. Someone doesn’t cheer and you’re going cry about?

    1. Michael Pittman plays his heart and guts out every game. Injured or not. I hope he —and the rest of the team –understand that our frustration is NEVER with the way they play football. Its with a coach who’s constantly putting them in tough positions — because the wrong guy is returning kicks, the wrong guy is coaching special teams, nobody has a plan B when something isn’t working, etc, etc.
These players have EARNED our support…and I hope they go out on a very high note, kicking Iowa’s ass on national television on Friday.

      1. Worst part is what John Jackson said 3 years ago about Helton….he let’s average teams hang around way too deep into the 2nd half…the starters get exhausted esp, the defense…scrubs get little reps to get ready….no change in made in the 2nd half to shove the knife in early and give the starters a chance to rest. Then when a solid opponent is looming no one is ready.

Helton looks clueless and the worst part about it is he doesn’t think he is.

      2. I think he will see it later after looking at the finished product that he had to go through.

His dad certainly knows what the fans are at with the way they look at the Coach.

      3. Lakers are in a slump. Dodgers are blowing their offseason, and USC is that team that is chasing it’s tail.

Mike, it would be awesome if the Basketball team could make some noise the rest of the season and help make this go away for now🙏

  2. That’s one kid. But you also have to understand that his career has been a frustrating one. In the way that Reggie and Matt, etc. or Bama and Clemson players now glory at their experience winning and couldn’t imagine being losers, a talented player that has not had that experience and adulation must be pretty salty.

  3. I support the team. I am not supporting the decision makers. I will be rooting for this guy when he plays on Sundays in spite of the lack of coaching he received. His raw talent is going to make some NFL team very lucky.

  4. I have never heard anyone dis M. Pittman. Anywhere. I wish CAL had him.
He doesn’t understand. The current coach & administration is leaving a sour taste in the mouths of a lot of people. The silver lining is that the SC fb program hasn’t been in trouble recently.
Not so long ago his dad spoke up about how things were being run.

  5. We the fans are not speaking poorly of the players so i hope the players and or media stop trying to create that spin. Our probably is and always has been with the coaching staff and Administration. Thats it! When we say USC tackling is terrible and both sides of the line look weak we point to lack of physical practices not that the players are the problem. We know the players are good that is why we are frustrated as fans because we know we should not be losing to the BYU’s of the world. The USC fan base loves and respect the players but how can we be expected to support a program that so blatantly ignores it’s fans? Then there is the way that this staff and administration goes about it like the 11 days between the UCLA game and making an announcement one way or another? it is clear incompetence by USC leadership. Once again so everybody understands the USC fans loves and respects our players but the staff and administration is who we are boycotting!

BTW! Isn’t this the same kid whose father had to threaten to pull him out of USC because the coaches were not playing him? Oh yeah ok i guess i should just shut up and watch huh? continue to waste my little bit of money i make investing in tix, apparel, etc huh?

  6. It’s beginning to feel like the USC coaches and administrators want to start an all out civil war with it’s own fans. This will not end well for them. But then again every decision they make does not end well for them or us for that matter.

    1. You are on to something. This is all going according to the plan of the BOT to downsize the racist sexist homophobic patriarchal football program and turn us into the Stanford of the West.

      1. Stanford actually has better non revenue sports than USC, their academics are better, maybe a better comparison would be the UC Irvine of the west, the don’t have a football team either !

  7. We were very active when we had Tollner and Hackett. The players complained then, but some said if they were in the audience they would boo also.My experience is that the players, some of them, were grateful. One in particular , I will not name him here without permission; He has been a head coach, however, on the pro level. I was also a player and I knew when the coach was bad . All players do but may or may not express it.I did not express it when I played. The Coaches I knew, most of them, were very sensitive and I wanted playing time.

You will feel the Trojan nation rage upon you FOLT AND BOHN!!!

  9. Just packing my bags (after non-stop Christmas entertaining for the past 72 hrs, no less) for my $2,000/48 hr trip to San Diego to SUPPORT my Team.

Watching the game on my comfy couch in Denver was a far cozier choice, and I could have sent the $2000 to the General Scholarship fund at USC (we’ll send our annual general scholarship donation of $4000 before 12/31). I thought being at the stadium in person–rain or shine–was my way of showing my team support.

BTW–it was brutally cold watching the Trojans play CU late on a Friday night in Boulder this year.

  10. Can you imagine if Clay Helton didn’t have Michael Pittman on his roster ? Their record would’ve been 5-7 again, and Graham Harrell wouldn’t look so smart. It’s amazing what one player can do for your team.

  11. I won’t criticize players. It’s obvious, however, fans are fed up with a mediocre program. The team is led by an incompetent head coach and a support staff that lacks the necessary skill to develop these players and less skill at game planning to win, convincingly. I don’t care if it’s referred-to as pushback against fans, put fans are certainly pushing back against the status quo at HH and their lousy decision making. We’re an also-ran program.

  12. Has anyone else notice that Mr. W*LF doesn’t mention the Basketball team unless it’s got something to do with the Tony Bland crap or if we lose?

All while USC has a freshman out playing seniors and is looking like a sure fire 1st Round Lottery Pick.

    OKONGWU-TANG!

If anyone knows the shot out in his name please speak up.

      1. Remember what George Costanza told Me. Ed’s look-alike Jerry Seinfeld……”IT’S NOT A LIE….IF YOU BELIEVE IT”

I don’t think they will be hit as hard as most people think. For sure they will lose a scholarship and have some minor punishment. That’s what they have been assuming all year since we complied immediately and Bland admitted to acting alone. And remember that they were gonna put him away for a minute and he would have outed Enfield if he was going to the penitentiary. To be honest I really think Bland thought he would get a nice side gig funneling kids but it didn’t work out as he planned in a quick time because he only got something like 4,000-5,000 and I’m sure he had to split that with the guy who approached him. I think Enfield cooperate immediately because he’s probably just a snitch or teachers pet to put it another way. He was too busy putting the Mobley family plan together I think and Bland went on to try and hustle and he f*cked up.
They definitely said Arizona was gonna get hit hard and What’s his face the coach got off somehow when they had him on the phone and cooked. Kansas was another. LSU was also but i think they said they aren’t in big trouble. Bland was first to be arrested from it all..He didn’t get much and probably was arrested first to rat out the others.

At this point I am not surprised of anything involving the university in sports or just the whole university. USC f*cked their loyal fans in many ways in many sports the last few years because of their circus of people at the top. I hope they have to sell the house in Palm Springs and their memberships at the country club to make things right and get it back to being respectable.

  13. His statement reveals why no one under 21 should vote. Analytical skills and any sort of ability to use them wisely are under developed. Nobody pours good money after bad results, just because emotion is involved. A thinking person over rules the emotion. Being loyal to a loser in a business situation, which a coach is as a manager…is not wise.

  14. Once again Scott is wrong. The players are going to feel the anger of the fans, you can’t disassociate some of the complaints with the staff as it has to do with the players. Start with the most obvious thing, people aren’t going to the games. Now run down the list of complaints. Not physical enough, not disciplined, don’t tackle well, no running game, blown coverages, not in shape, don’t play big boy football, don’t recruit well enough, don’t develop players, lose close games, can’t finish, not inspired, can’t contain the edge, only win games against poor teams, etc.

How would you feel as a player on this team?

Our aim is the coaching staff, but all negative comments reflect poorly on the players. They are going to take offense to the comments because ultimately they are the product we are talking about. We are angry with our coach because of the results on the field, we want our players to play better. We know they can be much better than what they are producing. We know it’s a coaching issue more than anything, but the players will certainly feel the sting.

Don’t stop with the complaints, removing financial support, etc. just know that the unfortunate part is the players will feel this too.

  15. Just a comment about M. Pittman. The only picture that I have ever seen him while in a suit or sports jacket looked like he made a brief stop at The Salvation Army. No offense intended towards The Salvation Army. It looked like he was running for president of the Plumbers Union.
Since there is a chance he might be a Thursday draft pick or high 2nd rounder, his pop needs to drag him over to Brooks Bros & get him fitted correctly. Dress for success kid. It doesn’t mean you’re a sell out. It means you’re brain is working the way NFL owners( your future payroll check signer) want.
The kid is going to be magnificent. Throw the ball within a 10 sq ft window & he is Hoover.

  16. What the fans object to is the culture around USC football. Simply the culture built by Helton. It pervades every facet of the game, from practices to post game. We all care about and appreciate what the players do, and if they had more to give they would. Again that falls upon the culture they are involved in. Sure ain’t what it used to be.

  17. Scott, you seem to call it like it is.
It might not be the most popular position but is truthful.
The fans do love the team but have had enough of Helton and his ways.
