USC Officially Welcomes Back Reggie Bush

USC made it official this morning and officially ended its disassociation with Reggie Bush and O.J. Mayo, who no one ever really talks about when bringing up these 10-year bans with the NCAA.

It’s the right move to end the bans because they really silly and the NCAA sanctions were way too harsh.

But it’s also time for Bush to show some remorse, especially since he impacted the innocent players from those USC teams 10 years ago that faced a bowl ban. Not to mention the players who never got to go to USC because of the 30-scholarship reduction.

Instead, Bush often plays the victim like in this 2018 podcast.

“The people at the university bailed on me,” Bush said. “Coaches bailed on me.

“I was just told don’t take money from boosters. OK, I didn’t do that. The guy who I took money from was my boy. I had known him for 8 years. The way I was explained the rules you have to have known the person for 4 years or more. This guy was a family friend.”

As for Mayo, he’s also could apologize. The self-imposed sanctions by former athletic Mike Garrett ruined a team that was competing for a conference title. Garrett made the announcement in the middle of the season and it was viewed as an attempt to make the coming football sanctions less onerous. It didn’t work.

    1. Remorse for calling the Sark tenure a debacle before it was made official by Sark himself at Salute to Troy? Remorse for calling Helton’s tenure a mess before it was being said by everybody else? Remorse for saying “it should be Sam not Max”? Remorse for trying to tell it like it is?         Listen, I’ve tried my hand with the far right on this blog with poor results and I’m turning to you with olive branch in hand. To begin with, I think I owe you the truth: That stuff I said about your mom and my scrotum…well, it wasn’t true. I know you’ve been agonizing and wondering if it really happened and I wanted to finally ease your mind about it. I offer you that truth in the spirit of peace and brotherhood.

        Also, I’ve met Trojans before they became Trojans and after they were already Hall of Famers, but I never met the ones UCLA people warned about a long time ago until I came to this blog. I think football and film are cool, but outside of that…I just can’t say. When you find yourself surrounded by Trojans who are agreeing with your bruin ass about USC getting its ass beat on the field, you’re surrounded by suspect Trojans. Unlike the vast majority of people in here, I think I’m glad USC has some new blood there. There are some relics around USC and with the waiving of tuition for certain people, USC is recognizing the need to evolve. I wasn’t coming around when they announced that change, but I bet they were howling in here.

        Part of the reason I stopped coming around is that I couldn’t listen to people wax poetic about all the lofty standards they have for the leader of a team, a department and a university, when they obviously have no such standards for the leader of the free world (although, we’ve abdicated that title for the time being). I just couldn’t stand the rank hypocrisy of it all. Look, I’m not trying to swap spit with you here and I’m not apologizing either, but it puts some things in perspective for me historically and currently. IDK…

  4. After all this time, the last paragraph is the most interesting to me. That B-Ball season was ruined, and even with Garrett’s gesture, they went balls deep on the football program…the third time has to be the charm, right?

  5. Look up Lloyd Lake…no not the one in a San Francisco park. I cannot find anything about him being a bonafide sports agent. I’m fact he was hoping to start his career in the back of Reggie Bush. After he was jilted by Bush based on a deal between Bush’s parents and himself, he cried foul. Still can anybody name a Lake client? The internet isn’t cooperating today.

  6. Bush’s reinstatement paves the way for the video hype team to begin using his likeness and image. God bless everyone who’s been a skill player at ‘SC since, but none of their highlights were capable of swaying a kids interest like #5. Desperate times call for desperate measures, eh?

  7. I’m still twisted though and as much as I love sports in general, I have to admit that I’m a little dubious about them starting up again. I’m a big Trojan and Lakers fan and I very much look forward to seeing them get back to work. I don’t know if there were two clubs that were more disadvantaged in their respective pursuits by this pandemic. I most definitely want to see these cats get back to chasing their dreams and sharing them with us. However, I’m feeling dubious because I realize that whether it’s the field court or streets, it’s just more black flesh for white fancy. The only question: “What’s your pleasure, sir?”

    I’ve been listening to a lot of music and I realize that I have been seeking music as medication. I also understand why dudes are out there seeking medication by other means as well. It gives me an idea as to why my brothers are such good athletes and entertainers:

    Sing for sanity…
    Play or plummet…
    Laugh or cry…
    Dance or die….

    It’s all part of the bitter blessings of disenfranchisement that I mentioned previously. All that pressure is creating all those black diamonds that I love so much. Just shine like you, baby. Shine like you do…

    1. Clay— Athletes get paid a lot of money to do what they do. Way, way more than those who teach students with disabilities or fire fighters or emergency service workers —who, in most ways, bring more to the community…..and don’t give a crap about not making 22 million a year or being applauded every time they show up or being in front of the camera. Anyone of any color in any sport is always free to stop “entertaining” and get to work doing honest to God work in their community.

      1. I think you missed the point of my post. They have been funneled into these avenues because it’s impossible to hide superiority on the field of play. There was a time when African Americans were thought to be inferior athletes and white men tried their hardest to keep them out of the games for the longest time. A large part of some of you partners’ problems is that they see that their sports heroes don’t look like they do any longer and they don’t like it. Luckily watching sports is fun and lucrative, but being a doctor or even maybe a lawyer pays fairly well too and isn’t nearly as hazardous to one’s health.

      4. Come on, Michael. Don’t do that man. What I was saying is that people (read: human beings) look for outlets when under pressure. Music, dance and sports are a large part of black culture because they have been outlets over generations.

  11. Given what the Goal of the Infractions Committee was, Reggie’s Actions were akin to playing loud music and getting a visit from a fully armed SWAT Team. It gave the Mafia the opening they needed to go all in. Anyone who thinks this would have happened if Reggie went to Notre Dame, Miami or an SEC School and did the exact same thing is delusional.
