USC Morning Buzz: A Half-Full Stadium For Alabama Game?

It looks like the USC-Alabama game will be in a half-full stadium in a best-case scenario.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, whose daughter graduated from USC last year, told 12 athletic directors from of the state’s Football Bowl Subdivision schools Friday not to expect capacity at their stadiums to be above 50 percent this fall, according to USA Today.

That means about 40,000 fans would be at the USC-Alabama game. That’s a plus for the Trojans because Alabama will bring more fans and noise will not be as big of an issue.

Abbott originally said stadiums would be at 25 percent but a week later quickly expanded capacity to 50 percent. That raised hopes stadiums might eventually be full.

  • The NCAA has encouraged all member schools to designate, Election Day, November 3, 2020 as a day off.

That could present a dilemma for USC: The Trojans at Oregon on Nov. 7 and Tuesdays (Election Day) are traditionally the biggest practice of the week.

    1. Devastating Ad. for Trump AND Graham… Leave it to Republicans to make the most cutthroat and vicious campaign ads, even against their own. If politics is a knife fight, Reps show up with assault rifles and Dems show up with water balloons. As Reps are switching over to full auto, Dems are debating whether to throw any balloons because someone might catch the sniffles. The way the two sides fight is indicative and informed by what and who they are fighting for.

And the fact that Trump barely squeezes into this generation hardly makes either of them representatives. But you can keep on.       4. Like I’ve said here before, I like smart people and good ideas and I don’t care where they come from. Progressives are the ones that come up with ideas because they have to try and make a coalition out of disparate groups of people. By nature, the Democratic Party is forced to take into account different viewpoints and try to cobble a together a team. It’s part of the party’s DNA. Look at a picture of the full senate and you’ll see all kinds of different sorts of people on the Dem’s side. If you look at the Rep’s side, it’s essentially white men in dark suits with grey hair. You see splashes of color on the Dem’s side, not just from skin color, but because the unwritten rule that requires men to wear dark clothing doesn’t hold true for women. Reps, on the other hand, don’t need ideas, they just need to update their playbook. Conservative policies are designed to maintain traditional economic, social and cultural power structures. Reps are not trying to find ways to facilitate an inclusive America (which requires ideas), they are trying to maintain exclusivity to power and control.

Isn’t it a fact that the death rate for people of color are much worse in communities governed by these “So Called” progressives? Aren’t jobs pouring out of those municipalities like water through a sieve? Schools the worst in the nation by every standard of measure? I heard there’s an old saying that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. We are told that we need to be open to discussion but only we can’t speak…that’s fine. Stick your finger in the dike and hope the stopping the leak will keep the dam from breaking.
        The funniest revision in my opinion though might be the notion that all these dems as you call them are progressives. These are the same ones who ruled the south with an iron fist for so many years turning out dogs any time there were a group of people assembled that didn’t fit their vision of polite society, and they were always propped up by their north-eastern “progressives” to allow them to stay in power. Where is the moral indignation when there are a 1000 times the black deaths occurring in these “progressive” communities? You think all these progressives don’t sit on the same juries that have filled their “progressive prisons” with people of color?
        Discussion is a conversation between multiple parties not just a single opinion. I am interested but I’m told statistics are racist if they point out a particular group’s weakness, so we’re not able to see the abject failure of the educational system as it pertains to inner city kids. Maybe it’s not racist, maybe it’s insane to ignore the obvious and continue on without asking why are we settling?
        This topic is an onion, no single answer working across the whole spectrum, but I’ll find it almost laughable when some nice southern baptist will be called a racist, misogynistic, homophobic right wing racist….and the author is a person of color. Laughable at best.

      8. Their reasoning? A Stanford issued parking pass for that space would have cost over a thousand bucks. The problem was that she was already given [and had already paid] a parking ticket. I just issued a plea of not guilty by virtue of double jeopardy. The judge—who had apparently never heard that plea before —said “double jeopardy? what am I supposed to do?” — I said “that’s your problem” and he dismissed the case.

      12. If you really want to make a difference, you can do a bunch more as a prosecutor than as a defense attorney. Prosecutors can do all the things you believe in, Clay. All over the country there are lots of great prosecutors going after corrupt officials and corrupt corporations. [& what they’re doing will have lasting effect].
        You can also do a lot for the community as a Law School Dean — which I tried to do for 10 years.

  4. Given the fact that Coronavirus cases are spiking in many states across the country, it appears as if we’re just going to roll the dice on people getting sick. If you play football and basketball, you’re going to be sharing fluids and you’re going to be breathing the exhaled air of others, period. There’s no two ways about it and it looks like we’re just going to trust that young athletes won’t be greatly affected. I’m not envious of those setting policy right now and I think that on many levels, we’re looking at a very, very difficult next 6 months.

I tend to be Libertarian if I was to be pigeon holed, but generally vote Republican because I just can’t go with what the Dems have been throwing out there. But “agent orange” has pretty much made it so I can’t, will not vote that way for President at least. I still find it hard to believe that a country of 360 million can’t find two candidates that are sane enough to run this show.

The left controls every major institution in the country, i.e. Wall Street, the tech sector, public employee unions, the education establishment, entertainment and the media, organized religion, every big city in the country, and the non-profit sector. Tell me, exactly what does the GOP control and have exclusivity over?

I did not say “Democrats,” I said “the left.” The left includes Antifa, BLM, the DSA, militant feminism, climate change activists, various “legal defense and education funds,” LGBT groups, the open borders lobby, etc. etc. When I say the left controls all the important institutions, by that I mean those institutions go along with the leftist agenda on a spectrum that ranges from enthusiastic support to grudging tolerance to a paralyzing fear that renders them impotent and incapable of opposition. That last one is where the leadership of the Republican party generally is by the way.
