USC Preparing For Some Fans At Coliseum

USC informed season-ticket holders today that it will inform them tomorrow of the first step in allowing fans in a reduced-capacity Coliseum.

“We are now preparing for the possibility that fans will be permitted to attend games this year in a reduced capacity Coliseum. Ultimately, however, we will be responsive to all state and local health and safety guidelines, so these plans are subject to change.

“As such, we are commencing immediately with our process to prepare for this scenario. Tomorrow, you will be receiving an email outlining the first step in that process.”

I hope this message finds you continuing to be safe and healthy.

The purpose of this email is to provide you, as a season ticket holder, an update on our plans for the 2020 football season. Please know that our staff has been hard at work preparing for a multitude of different scenarios that are logistically complex. We’ve been greatly appreciative of your patience and support during this very unique time.

There have been two announcements in the past couple weeks that have been extremely encouraging. First, President Carol L. Folt announced that USC is planning for an in-person fall semester for students beginning on August 17, 2020. Then, as endorsed by Governor Gavin Newsom, the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health issued new guidance that allows professional sports teams and franchises to restart operations and competitions without audiences effective June 12, 2020. Though neither announcement addresses our 2020 football season specifically, we are now preparing for the possibility that fans will be permitted to attend games this year in a reduced capacity Coliseum. Ultimately, however, we will be responsive to all state and local health and safety guidelines, so these plans are subject to change.

As such, we are commencing immediately with our process to prepare for this scenario. Tomorrow, you will be receiving an email outlining the first step in that process. Our Trojan Athletic Fund and ticket sales representatives will be available to answer any questions you may have about the information you receive.

Finally, I would simply like to say a heartfelt thank you. Since the conclusion of last year, we’ve relentlessly enhanced our football program. From retaining Graham Harrell and the offensive coaching staff, to supporting Clay Helton in recruiting an elite defensive coaching staff and special teams coordinator, and adding eight new, talented football support staff members, we are very pleased with the progress we’ve made this offseason. The results are showing nationally in both the public narrative and recruiting rankings. Furthermore, during the COVID-19 crisis, we were able to provide meals, nutritional supplements, training equipment, and other resources to ensure that our student-athletes remain physically and mentally prepared for the upcoming season.

None of this would be possible without your commitment to our program. We’re counting on you to continue helping us provide a world-class experience for our student-athletes and fueling the energy behind our football enterprise. We wholeheartedly embrace your expectations for our success, and our championship aspirations are undeterred.
