Timing Of Online Classes Irks Some Students

USC has to deal with the ever-changing conditions of COVID-19 but its announcement last night struck some students the wrong way because of the timing.

The announcement came at 9 p.m. (EDT). July 1 was the rental deadline to for many off-campus apartments, which meant the decision came too late for some students unless you have an understanding landlord.

Must have been a Gen X who f’d that up. No way a boomer was responsible for this.

    1. Yup. And I’m suspecting that with all the vacancies around town right now and landlords losing out on rent payments due to the pandemic, there’s nowhere to find room in all of DTLA.
      Damn those GenXers

    2. You mean a Member of Heathcliff Russell’s Generation X is mistreating the “Remarkable Generation”? I’m shocked, shocked!

All the Gen Xers must be processed into Soylent Green Burgers as punishment for this grievous miscue.

    3. That’s unfair and just silly. You seem to be a more discreet member of the team, but clearly a member. Your buddies like to post Tweets and videos of things as if they are a snapshot of some wide problem. They use these things as some kind of false equivalence to minimize the struggle of people of color in America. I tend to think for myself, take a wider view and look at larger events to get a sense of reality rather than shop for things that will try to support a reality that doesn’t exist.

I mention all that to give you an example of what I’m talking about when I talk about boomers relative to other generations. Thank you for bringing up the X’ers BTW. After Defeating fascism in Europe and making off with Nazi scientists, The Greatest Generation put the USA on the moon and made it somewhat routine to get there. The boomers came along, America changed its priorities and promptly lost the ability to go to the moon. Not only did the boomers lose the ability to go to the moon, they lost the ability to go to space altogether. Again, with that old boomer ingenuity, they had us paying the Russians a ridiculous amount of money to get us to space whenever Vlad would let us hitch a ride. Recently, we saw America return to space under her own power and it took a Gen X’er to do it. Being the man of his time that he is, Donald Trump HATES that Gen X’er, which probably means you guys do too.

We lost our way in space and in so many other ways under the boomers (Russia for space and China for everything else??), but we made the houses of Louis Vuitton and Gucci filthy rich. You guys are beautiful and the gift that will keep on giving too.

      1. Let’s enjoy Heathcliff Russell’s “Remarkable Generation” of victicrat bigots in action. Like Jussie Wallace, they go around every day looking for something in America to be upset about.

You must be proud. You Gen Xers have truly given us The Worst Generation.

      2. Note sure who you are addressing this to, and I don’t know what the point is about going to the moon. That said, every generation makes great sacrifices, has great achievements, and makes great mistakes, often about wars. It is silly to think otherwise. Boomer generation sucks? Throw out everything associated with them?

Including end of Cold War, spread of democratic ideas throughout the world, including China and India, billions no longer live in extreme poverty because of boomer-led technological change in agriculture, MRI, GPS, supercomputing, breakthroughs in heart surgery, some cancer treatments, endoscopy and arthroscopy, organ transplant matching, PCR, the internet, the digitization of world knowledge, robotic surgery and microchip controlled artificial limbs.

And you think greed has destroyed our society? Surely Apple is greedy, correct? Take a look at the impact of smart phone technology in Africa. It has allowed them to completely bypass land lines, it has enormously expanded women entrepreneurship, by enabling digital banking, it gives millions of Africans the ability to carry out financial transactions without walking around with a wad of cash and risking robbery and physical harm. All from a for-profit corporation.

Let’s get back to USC sports.

      3. 67 —Man, I HOPE we have a football season — I can’t take much more of this muddled political back and forth… I like Clay and he makes a solid point from time to time —- but he’s getting more and more strident –always the sign of someone who hasn’t had to work in a diverse setting —where friendship, consensus building and mutual respect are necessary ingredients.

  4. I don’t fault Clay Russell’s idealism. Who amongst us weren’t idealists when we were in our 20s? We had all of the answers even though we had minimal life experiences and actual knowledge as basis for our opinions. Clay, everyone was an idealist at some point, and then life happened. And you quickly become pragmatic. It will happen to you too and it’s okay. Life is far too nuanced and complicated to be decided by lofty ideals.

But Clay, let me ask you the following. Do you think yours is the only generation which held lofty ideals? Do you think yours is the only generation who understands the human condition and the primary human motivating factors? Don’t you think your generation should acknowledge the previous generation’s contributions, which you have been using throughout the day, while casting judgement against the same generation? Do you think your generation is the first to possess the mental and moral capacity to see right from wrong?

Gaining actual knowledge is humbling. To paraphrase Albert Einstein, “The more I learn the less I know.”

    1. Well said Contributor. Poor Clay is burdened with a huge ego and assumes all that he pontificates is righteous and holy. He must be pissed off due to a situation where he got seriously crapped on and is punching out at everyone older than he was believing he was wronged. Poor buggar. Life is a bitch. Grow up and change what you don’t like. Stop blaming everybody else for YOUR problem.

I grew up in the era of LBJ who Gave every down trodden soul billions and billion of $ to pull them up by their bootstraps over the last 50 years. And guess, what, they are still in the gutter. I won’t be under any officer’s knee and I’m not worried about ME. Fool. As long as you’re ok though, the world is fine. Typical and a great illustration of what Admiral McCraven was referring to.

    2. This was a good post beyond the condescension and I wrote the reponse it deserved, but it seems Wolf is playing games or something.

Suffice it to say, we shouldn’t be in the shape we’re in or the place we’re in, and regardless of what happens in November, it’s just going to be more of the same from these old war horses. They don’t know any other way, we NEED another way. You guys are not going to go out gracefully and nothing about your history indicates that you would. I wish I could say the worst was over, but I don’t think so and I’m just saying.

Obviously, I hit a nerve here and I don’t think it’s because I’m entirely wrong.

We have a way to go to rebuild America but useful idiots like you support the Globalists from both parties who sold us out to Red China the last 50 years.

I apologize if my comment was interpreted as condescending. It was not meant to be. I was only trying to state that your sentiments, passions, idealism, etc. have been resident of every generation that has come before yours and mine. I hope you find the happiness in life that you and we all deserve and are capable of having.

        Take care

      4. Contributor, you’re a nice guy, but I disagree with you reducing what I’m talking about to some generalized sense of idealism that is common to every generation. I think the boomers are a singular generation and (especially with this political coup de grace) will objectively be judged harshly. I have no idea what it’s like to hear that, but I think I would blow it off if I didn’t agree. That’s not really what’s happening here…

        All the best to you.

  5. I think I have tapped into a seething well of repressed boomer guilt here. It’s obvious that there are many people here who desperately need to shed this terrible burden that they have been carrying. I want all of you to know that you’re among friends and that this is a safe space for you to share your feelings. I want you all to realize the cleansing and rebirth of confession this evening. It may seem a little awkward at first, but just begin with: “My name is _______ and I am a baby boomer…”

      1. Maybe we can charitably describe him by falling back on that old debating line, “it isn’t what he doesn’t know, it’s what he knows that isn’t so….”

        Liked by 1 person

      2. 67, it’s funny you would ask me what my point is after “20 or more” rants (are you sure it was that many or do they just hit that hard?) when you haven’t asked your boy gotroy22 what his underlying point is after posting HUNDREDS of videos. Maybe it’s because you know his underlying point already and you agree with it. I’ve written enough about my point for you to get it, why don’t you guys try writing about yours instead of posting videos? How many more videos before we get some kind of writing explaining the underlying point? When were you going to ask?

I told you my point: You guys were crap and the problems we’re dealing with now are on your ledger. Listen, take it, acknowledge, change and finish your story strong. You can start helping by removing that orange poster child of a boomer from office in November or sooner.

Just another example to illustrate the point I and Admiral McCraven are making, since you and your friends seem to be quite dense…or maybe just proud: I often see Lebron James disparaged on this blog because he sees issues and he speaks out about them. He’s concerned with more than just selling shoes like his oft-compared, boomer friend Michael Jordan. Most of the boomers here think he should just shut up and dribble like Jordan did. However, they are both products of their generations and while you can debate who the better player is, there’s no debate about who the better man is. Nor is there a debate as to which belongs to the better, more constructive generation with an ethos that will be far more beneficial to mankind than that of the boomers.

Thank you for your question and have a happy 4th of July.
