Morning Buzz: USC Should Be Former Quarterback U.

Look at all the former-or-once-committed-to-USC QBs putting up stats across the nation:

  • JT Daniels passed for 540 yards with six TDs and 1 interception at Georgia.
  • Jack Sears passed for 332 yards with three TDs and no interceptions before he got hurt at Boise State.
  • Matt Corral passed for 2,744 yards with 24 TDs and 9 interceptions at Ole Miss.
  • Bryce Young passed for 137 yards with one TD and no interceptions at Alabama.

Matt Fink should have transferred and found a school to play at too.

Maybe USC should be called Former Quarterback U.

  1. They probably should not have given up on Matt Corrall so easily. He was pretty committed to SC(as I remember it). SC gave up on him. He didn’t give up on them. SC was upset because he got into a fight with Wayne Gretzke’s son and Oak Christian threw him out of school. Kid’s get in fights all of the time, sometimes right on the practice field.

    1. The New York Jets were shocked when they found out that Sam Darnold had no clue about how to read defenses.

      Why is it a shock to anyone that Clay Helton is a third rate coach at best who has done nothing but underachieve and waste the talent that USC affords him?

      There hasn’t been one USC game that you could point to and make a claim that Helton’s coaching was the reason why they won…not a single game.

      Clay Helton is the highest paid, third rate coach at best, in the history of football.

      Helton should be ashamed of himself for even cashing the checks USC gives him. Seriously.

        Well this IS interesting. I am not sure if this site is for me anymore. Each email address used generates a unique symbol that represents the email address. One person on this page has 10 such symbols generated for his username. That is some next level trolling. And none of messages upon this thread has anything to do with the the purpose of the thread. It has developed into a prepubescent name calling.

        I hate it when one of Charlie’s puppets is right, though. We all saw the year to year drop off in every QB Helton or his brother coached. [I fear we might be seeing the same thing now with Harrell]….

      9. Adam Gase admits that the NJ Jets have not given Sam the opportunity to develop. Lousy run game (cuz they couldn’t keep Bell), substandard WR (cuz they’re a cheap, losing program), and a weak OL. Throw in a lackluster defense and lousy coaching, and it all comes together, No?

And the wonder boy Sears couldn’t even start for two games without getting his bell rung. Hmmm, didn’t you say he was so much tougher than these other guys?     3. Hmm…Scottie must have forgotten to take his schizophrenia meds today. Suddenly JT is the poster boy of great QBs. If we had only kept him! But Scottie thought JT was third string, behind Sears and Slovis, only ahead of Matt (The King of the LA River) Fink.

      Glad that JT is succeeding in the SEC, particularly after a torn ACL. Given his mobility issues, I thought he would really struggle against SEC defenses. Maybe he is quicker than we thought, or the SEC is not the be all and end all of college football.

  4. We have also become canceled bowl game U. The Vegas bowl, Sun Bowl, Redbox and Holiday Bowl all were cancelled.(although if we wait a week the Redbox will probably show up in a machine near you)
    Of the quarterbacks listed it might be that Sears had the best shot at being the number one guy. Honestly Helton’s handling of players has been underwhelming. But this should be expected of a second string quarterback on his daddy’s team, he thought he was a quarterback. From what I have read he had slow feet in college. He then graduated and the slowness moved north until it reached his comb.

    1. He (Sears) couldn’t even be the number 1 guy at bsu. Sophomore Bachmeier held him off. You’d think it would be telling that he had no pursuers in the portal from top programs.

    You present the description of USC as former quarterback U as a negative. In fact, it is a positive. The current USC Quarterback, when healthy, is arguably better than all those listed. Remember, he beat out JT Daniels, and Jack Sears. Corral—->how many schools has he either attended or been committed to attend?
    Many of your criticisms are accurate. However, this time, I simply think that a healthy Kedon Slovis is the best of the group. Unfortunately, despite the assertions to the contrary, he is playing as if either his shoulder, and more likely his right elbow is not completely healed. MJDavidson

  7. Well, that’s pretty darn cool. Matt Cassel was buried behind Palmer and Leinert. At least these guys are playing! I hope their careers are great. It’s the transfer portal. And more recently the terrible decision-making by Clay Helton. Sears tolerated a lot, JT got the heck out of the mess which maligned him (he was smart to go), and Young avoided the Helton. Why commit to terrible coach when you can commit to the best? Not sure Sark would be my role model, but I have to believe Saben is the master there.

  8. Not sure that saban has anything to do with coaching QBs. Certainly his history isn’t replete with nflers yet, but sark did do well with Tua and seems to have his latest on the right path. saban’s always been the DB guy.
