Discuss The USC-Oregon Game

Well, that was fitting.

All the lack of discipline and non-sense the first five games came home to roost tonight against a team that had some athletes, which is why I picked Oregon.

Kedon Slovis is worse this season.

Graham Harrell did not improve the running game this season.

Todd Orlando let his defense run wild all season and not in a good way.

Sean Snyder’s special teams had some big errors tonight.

Clay Helton must go. But Mike Bohn won’t fire him.

    1. Dear Mrs. Helton,
Mr. Helton mistakenly said “we came up one play short tonight.” With that moronic statement he tries to gloss over the fact that —for the umpteenth time during his interminable tenure — USC players committed one dumb penalty after another, had 10 men on the field on a few occasions, played as though they didn’t know where the sidelines or the endzone was….and… acted like every routine play they made was something to celebrate to the point they weren’t ready for the next play. It was quite a show…

  1. Weak O-line and dumb penalties = loss. Reminded me of the ’18 Rose Bowl against OSU. Same old, same old. Unfortunately, this won’t get Helton canned. Same old, same old.

  2. Helton should have never been named Head Coach to begin with. All Helton was, was just a coffee boy for Kiffin and Sarkisian. Bohn, get some balls and fire Helton!

    1. Well look who’s back? Small Michael, the twin sister of Bruin Rob. Hey Small Michael, how is it that a walking brain donor like Clay Helton is 4-1 against ucla?

  3. This nonsense must stop! He should have been fired about 4 years ago! Yeah he can beat the mediocre teams, but any better than average team and they lose! Is this what SC football has become! Proud Trojan fans should NOT have to settle! WE DESERVE BETTER! NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP BETTER! Enough is enough! Please, please fire this guy!

    1. I have always thought your vulgar name was an insult Phuque, but now I view it as a prophecy of the Bowl we are going to lose under Helton. I think I’ll take the Ucla way out and skip watching people in Trojan uniforms playing in the Fuck You bowl brought to you by planned parenthood.

    2. Please excuse FU. His mom took away his Pippi Longstocking DVDs and that always puts him in a bad mood. Deep down he knows that what he saying is bollocks, but he is so very desperate to get attention. Come clean, FU, we know you really voted for Trump. Can’t fool us.

  4. Time and time again USC plays with pathetic arrogance. Not surprising not even Slovis could bail us out this time. Another game that illustrates Helton and staff’s incompetence, lack of discipline, mistake ridden play along with a big dose of uninspired play. How long are fans suppose put up with poor caliber of play? How long will USC tolerate mediocrity. USC has to get rid of this of this entire coaching staff and hire a coach who can bring us back to national prominence.

  5. It is like Ground Hog Day we see the same performance over and over … We need to start over and go and get an Urban Meyer … Bob Stoops …. Matt Campbell or Luke Fickel .. Someone that will bring discipline and structure .. We are undisciplined and continue to fail while we have talent

    1. Don’t mention alpha males as candidates for Helton’s job. Helton will be replaced –if he’s replaced at all — by another beta male. That’s what USC is all about now. Folt got herself a grand one in the person of Mike Bohn —that’s the kind of man she wants around. Not Urban Meyer. I mean the one thing you can never say again is “wouldn’t it be great to get Urban Meyer?”
I asked myself why I was watching and rooting for this team tonight. I couldn’t come up with a good answer. I don’t say that because I’m unappreciative of the skills of some of the players — I say that because the institution they play for is a mess —devoted to wokeness — like so many other failing California institutions. It needs to hit rock bottom before it can begin thinking about correcting course…

      1. So you are going to somehow blame this on wokeness??. .. whatever the hell that is. That’s funny because Alabama and Ohio St. have been way more outspoken in support of BLM but they seem to be doing fine. Sounds like another lame excuse from a mediocre attorney.

  6. That was Special. Thank you Mike Bohn for Blvd. Productions. That really helps win games. Thank you Mike Bohn for hiring new assistants, that, too, replaced Clay Helton. Thank you Mike Bohn for embarrassing us, yet again this season. That was extra special. Thank you Mike Bohn for giving Harrell a raise when he can’t learn to play a full offense. Thank you Mike Bohn for embarrassing our athletes. I hope all our recruits rescind their letter’s of intent. We don’t deserve them as long as Helton is our head coach.

  7. I just want to scream. Slovis was actually no where near accurate tonight, but who was his backup? The last “interceptions” was a dying duck. Every sack tonight started with a whiffed block. I don’t know if Washington would have been a better game, but there is no excuses to cover this loss. As Owns put it Helton’s worry warts choked and gagged on their Gatorade. There isn’t enough athleticism to overcome poor instructions and stubborn play calling. Maybe Owns can get Helton a job at the coliseum security department.

    1. We would have beaten Washington. Washington’s offense is made to order for Orlando. BUT —by quickly saying yes to the idea of playing Oregon instead — BOHN begged for this result. He’s too dumb and too much of a pussy to tell Larry Scott “you can’t MAKE us play a well rested, second place team for a Championship they don’t belong in— Washington forfeits, USC wins Pac 12. Period.”

  8. Ok I have some thoughts and questions. Hope you will indulge.

SC has had serious institutional scandals the last few years. How long until the university considers those issues closed?

How about for Varsity Blues? What is the timeline of getting through that?

I feel like the administration/BoT have (rightly) focused on getting through these serious scandals and financial ramifications of these before fixing the football program (read let Helton’s contract expire). Is this thought process correct?

    Liked by 3 people

    1. the BOT and its unwieldy size and arrogance are the ones that allowed the scandals to take hold in the first place. So as far as I’m concerned they are just taking up space and burning clock.

    2. Auburn’s buyout of Gus Malzahn (who won a Natty) $21Million.
With all schools hemorrhaging money due to the pandemic, these buyouts are going to weigh heavy on nearly all athletic budgets.

Despite DeAnthony Melton’s innocence in Varsity Blues, it seems like the issue is “settled” as Enfield handled the situation with an abundance of caution. BTW, Melton was signed to a sweet $35M deal by the Grizzlies for the next 4 years. He’ll never be a scoring guard but he is making a name for himself as a defender (which we saw in his brief stint at Troy) and a pretty good rebounder.

I think your analysis is spot on–even if I disagree with the BoT’s approach.

  9. I am simply tired with the incompetence of Helton, and the other members of that staff.

Why are other schools are offering Urban Myers the bank. USC is to holy, and to good to have a Urban Myers help save our beloved football at USC . Nothing changed, everything remand the same, very sad, plus depressing,

  10. Clay Helton Teams
    1. No improvement
    2. No defense
    3. No blocking
    4. No tackling

SC is at a crisis point. With the exception of a less than average SC recruiting class,. this season was a waste. Another year of Helton may be irreversible, maybe then the trolls will grow bored. I expect the magic of the 2019 UCLA game ball will convince Dolt to hold on to her key to de-emphasize sports at SC… Of course, maybe donations will drop off…and Dolt will loose her sinecure, but probably not before she gets rid of Tommy Trojan…

  12. Two average teams played tonight… The Pac 12 is a joke. Oregon has as good of athletes if not better than SC. The USC offensive line is horrible once again. Not only are they poorly coached they are slow. Many times I saw the Oregon defensive line players just run right by the SC lineman. Folks the air raid offense is horrible, and throw that it with a below average defense, and you have a average team. SC was undefeated but who did they beat. Those were not championship teams playing tonight it even though it was called a title game in what really is a mediocre conference.

  13. Time for a change….better hope SC does not win the bowl game. No team that is last in rushing in a below average conference deserves to win a conference championship. I don’t care how many high caliber coaches you bring in unfortunately it all starts at the top with Head Coach.

  14. 38 yrs rushing tonight. Last in Pac 12 in rushing this season.. No Championship of any kind until 1) Helton is gone and 2) The Air Raid is gone. Merry Christmas Oregon- you finished the season with 2 losses, and defeated a very weak USC team to win the championship. How many teams win on a consistent basis with no running attack.

    1. Oregon lost its chance to play Washington. If they played, it would probably have been a tossup. Oregon won the conference by luck, but they still won the game that counted.

  16. congratulations to hellton for another record in the usc record books, he has more penalty yards (98), in fact over 2x more, than rushing yards (38). obviously he was the previous recordholder also. that should call for an extension of contract in case some other school try to pry him away.

The O-Line stinks. Thibideaux went through them like a hot knife through butter. They should seriously think about replacing McKenzie. Thibideaux went around McKenzie and through him. I can see him going around since he is lighter and much quicker than McKenzie. But he shouldn’t be bull rushing Mckenzie. I keep hearing people complaining that SC’s offense has no rythm. They don’t have many sustained drives. You can’t have rythm unless you have a running game and you’ll never have a running game without an O-Line. Slovis has had 6 interceptions in the last 2 games against Oregon. Part of that is the O-Line. I just cannot understand why a great football school like SC cannot build a great O-Line. What is the problem? SC has gained a grand total of 143 yards rushing in the last 3 games. That’s under 48 yards a game.

  19. 5 million dollar a year coach right there it shows the stupidity of USC, and based on his qualifications, experience, and won -loss record very few athletic directions would hire that guy so he is done with coaching once his contract runs out at SC. Are USC’s expectations too high absolutely yes with this guy as the head coach. The USC brand is in trouble the product is based on past glory in college football as new programs with better products take the front stage. Sorry folks it is no longer “We are SC”, it is now “We were SC”.

  20. 38 total yards rushing is something you achieve in Pop Warner Youth Football. The SC offensive line looks like a bunch of “fat” overweight girls” trying to block athletes. SC thinks the air raid offense is unstoppable yet history shows balance between the run and pass wins championships. Graham Harrell needs to go the Air Raid is not SC football yet I would not be surprised if Mike Bonehead promotes Harrell to be Head Coach when Helton gets fired, and if that happens folks please hold on to the memories because the future looks quite dim.

We already knew that Helton is incompetent but now it also obvious that all the other assistant coaches are incompetent including Harrell and Orlando. Who is going to bring back USC’s football program to be a national championship contender?

  23. Oregon fan here… Your team lost because your QB made some bad decisions and McCoy dropped the pass. Also hurt that your starting RB was out. Talent wise, both teams were about the same overall. Someone had to lose. You can’t blame Helton for Slovis playing so bad when he was playing good in recent games. Cristobal keeps playing Shough when he sucked all season long.
