USC Opts Out Of Bowl Game

Well, this is not surprising.

USC has opted out of a bowl game. Of course, if it beat Oregon, probably a different story.

But going to the Alamo Bowl without Kedon Slovis and Amon-Ra St. Brown? No way because a loss piles more pressure on Clay Helton, which is what I heard from a source earlier today.

Statements from Clay Helton and Mike Bohn below:

      1. Yup! Just as lonely as you are you dumb piece of shit! USC sucks and because of bitches like you it will never get better. You are a fucking joke. People like you are why Bohn does not make a change. USC alum and current players are soft as Charmin and it starts with you. Bitch!

    1. Follow up question: If Helton cares about his QB why does he employ a burned out o-line coach who gets the bare minimum out of the players who are supposed to protect the QB? Slovis wasn’t good to go this season because of injuries received in the last game of last season (again with Drevno at the helm). He might never again be the player we saw in his first year.

  1. Frankly, I am relieved. USC would have played a good team and would have gotten beat as usual. The evidence is in – they are a mediocre team this year at best. If the decision makers at USC can’t figure out the issues that need to fixed, they don’t give a shit. I can’t figure out Bonn – has he sold out his values and judgment for a paycheck from Folt? Someone with some testicles need to take charge. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah to all.

  2. Those comments by Bohn and Helton are irrelevant. The fact is this season was practically made for great success. We never played a really good team(including Oregon). Yet we didn’t even win the Pac-12. Oregon came into our house and beat us again for the 2nd year in a row. We haven’t had a good OL-Line since 2011. That’s 9 years. Yet they still can’t seem to fix the problem. Like I’ve said before, our O-Line is pathetic. With that O-Line we couldn’t run the ball against a defense made up of the Chicago sisters of mercy with Mother Theresa at middle LB. So stop with all of the irrelevant comments about what a great season it was. The truth is the season was a total failure.

  4. Bohn’s first draft of his opt out memo is below:

“Trojan family, to avoid totally embarrassing ourselves, we will opt out of a postseason bowl game. With Coach Clay at the helm, we would almost certainly lose to any good team by at least 3 touchdowns. I would have fired the loser last season, but Clay is one crafty SOB; that “coach folt” suck-up with the game ball got him at least two more years as HC. Maybe I can fire him next season if he goes below .500. You probably think of me as an unprincipled stuffed suit. Well, you are right, but my seven-figure salary takes the sting out of that. Happy holidays and fight on!”

The only way Gomer can get tarmac’d soon is for a booster to offer to pay for the Gomer payoff and the delta $$ to bring in a reputable coach. Bohn to lobby Dolt that his hire at Cincy runs a clean and successful program where the players are disciplined and do NOT taunt their opponents.

  9. The question should not have ever come up. This isn’t USC that was anywhere, anyone, anytime. But now to protect his own job he threw his kids under the bus. This isn’t even a disguised dodge. Helton ducked the fog last night and now he’s afraid if he goes in his jackyard and backs off he’ll be shown to the fother mucker he really is. Now some of you will see my vulgarity as silly, because that’s more my style, but I am serious when I say Helton is covering his ass and Bohn is letting him. The bowls are 2 weeks away Covid is not an excuse and if he put players in the playoff game knowing they had Covid it is a firable offense the sooner the better.

    1. Think about it, 67. USC was 3 minutes from another last minute victory. Instead snake bitten Helton sees a ball get intercepted by a team that shouldn’t even be playing in the Coliseum….and the whole season turns to shit in the next 3 minutes…

      1. Right down the tubes, just like that. Oregon is not a great team. They didn’t have to be, given all the turnovers, some of which were because the O-line couldn’t stop a pass rush whatsoever.

        Liked by 3 people

      2. 67 –I think there’s more to this than we’re being told. I’m not sure Kedon is right — attitudinally OR physically. Check out the interceptions —they are REAL bad throws. What’s up?
I know Sam got fed up with the terrible coaching of the O-Line. I wonder if Kedon’s whole family is sick of what they’re seeing. It must hurt to see your kid get beat up every week cuz of a coach who’s all mouthy aphorisms and no talent.

        Liked by 4 people

      3. Yes, Kedon wasn’t right in the first quarter. His throws were nowhere near the receiver.

It’s USC’s decision to keep on paying the village idiot as HC, but they should have some respect for fans. If they do, they never again will trot out that “we are so close to a championship-caliber team” crap every year.

  10. The question did the USC players want to opt out the bowl game or was it Bonehead, and Folt. Bowl games are a reward for players, and it is taken way. Look for many players to transfer so they can get out of this government controlling run state. and get away from a sliding program under Clay Helton. Another loss would have sealed the fate of Helton, and he knows that the certain loss in a bowl game would be the end. So this year he ducked Alabama, Colorado, Notre Dame, and now probably Iowa State in the Alamo Bowl…. Sadly, he still gets paid his 5 million salary, while other on the USC payroll in this Pandemic took pay cuts. Helton, is a very lucky fellow who keeps his job while not performing year after year.

    1. 100%! [On the other hand, Helton would have been spared the notion he raised the level of USC’s play this year if he played Alabama in the opener. A 63 -10 drubbing has a way of forcing a guy to deal with reality. Unfortunately victories over Arizona and Washington State had Helton thinking he had turned the corner].
I bet a lot of the players are bitter too –this may be the straw that breaks the camel’s back for Helton.

  11. This school as well as any other pac 12 school that bails should give up is collective cut of bowl pool money. 1/13 of the total, 12 schools and the pac 12 office. You quit and didn’t contribute to the pool, you get nothing. Schools that didn’t qualify in years past deserved it then cause at least they fought for it but came up short.

  12. USC football might not even have a winning record next year. Many players will transfer out. If I’m Corey Foreman the No. 1 recruit in the nation I tear up my letter of intent to USC, and sign with LSU, ALABAMA, OR CLEMSON. It will be ugly next year and it will be Helton’s last season. No player in their right mind will return, and either will go pro, or head to the transfer portal. The fans will be back in the stands in the SEC, ACC, and Big 12 but not the Pac 12, and sadly the national TV networks will ignore the Pac 12. The only way for SC to survive this, and re-build the program is go withdraw from the Pac 12, and become an independent. Maybe Carol Folt will invite the players over to her million dollar estate in Santa Monica for Christmas as a replacement for the Bowl game. Enjoy your paychecks and free money at SC Mr. Helton.

        67,
Do you realize we are screwed next year? We are losing Vaughns and St. Brown. We’ll be playing a full schedule —including Notre Dame. Drevno will still be mishandling the 0-line.
[Note: The o-line was terrible, as usual. But, on reflection, Slovis lost the game. It’s up to him not to throw the ball up for grabs on the field of play no matter how badly the protection breaks down. I admire the shit outta his guts…and the many times he saved a play by leaving the pocket —but that still doesn’t excuse the fact he threw the ball when he shouldn’t have. The worst thing any QB can do].

      3. Michael, this was the third game they played in 13 days. Bohn should have said “no” to a game on this past Friday. In the NFL, no one would even have suggested such a schedule. But we have Larry “1-18 tennis record” Scott.

My guess is that Slovis was exhausted, having to run for his life on over half of his throws. Five plus years we have been talking about the O-line. They can’t protect Slovis. They can’t open a hole for the running game. They looked overmatched. I’d hate to see them against a CFP team. It would have been like the ’18 Rose Bowl. Deja vu, all over again.

      5. You guys are really on the RIGHT track! It just dawned on me: we shouldn’t have even played Oregon on Friday. It wasn’t fair to our team. They WERE tired. It isn’t tennis. And Oregon was fresh as a daisy —and didn’t belong in the Coliseum in the first place.
What does this mean? It means that a big, fat motherfucker who talks incessantly about the bible on zoom (sure sign of a phony) sold his “kids” out cuz he was too chickenshit to tell Bohn and Larry Scott “I think it’s time to bring in the lawyers. My team is not gonna play 3 times in 13 days against an opponent we had no reason to prepare for.” Instead, a team that fought hard all year pays the price (once again) for Helton’s cowardice (and avarice).

    2. They have used the excuse that the university has lost money or is dealing with lawsuits, etc. But they turn down the one game that would be the only money maker for their football season. I think we would most likely lose the game because of Helton being the coach but this is another reason why USC looks so unorganized or makes questionable decisions. I never want someone to lose their jobs be a that’s terrible for most people, but I can’t feel sorry for Helton who had millions that he will walk away with and by the looks on his face he is aware that he hasn’t delivered and luckily is paid like a boss in College Football.
If he had any fight as a coach he would have told Larry Scott we’re the Champs and never played Oregon so USC could have filled in to play Georgia to give us the big game needed to a possible playoff berth while it might have been another disappointment it at least would have given USC a shot and Helton would be able to shut down his critics if he coached them to a win. USC was getting blasted earlier this week for not at least trying. That’s USC.

      1. My bad. I meant to say Helton along with Folt or Bohn should have made the case to Larry Scott that they are Pac12 Champs outright (at the time haaa) and they shouldn’t have to play and instead fill in as Georgia’s game opponent.

Do you blame the players with no national tv exposure, no fans in the stands thanks to our wonderful governor, and a President of the University who graduated from UC Santa Barbara in Marine Biology who is more interested in the environment,Isla Vista hippie sushi, and protecting the fish in the ocean than the students, faculty, and football team at USC. USC football has become irrelevant, and now that it is bringing in alot less revenue less emphysis will be put on athletics at USC until a new President is hired. 19. This is what i don’t understand, prior to the oregon game, the coach came out and said everyone is healthy and free from the virus. They were tested on Friday for the virus before the game and everyone was okay. I then read that the team is worn down and there is fear of the virus and players having it and other mumbo jumbo to get out of the bowl game. So my question is, how can the players be worn out and potentially have the virus in less than 24 hours from the time everything was fine until they announced the decision not to play, which is it?

  20. With Folt and Bohn, USC is DEAD in terms of football. Any team can beat SC. Drevino and Harrell need to go. Take Helton with you. I would give the defensive coaches another year. In the second half in most games, they made adjustments to slow down the other team. SC’s oline is the worst I have ever seen. They don’t have the players or the coaches. You have to run the ball. they can’t. Harell got Slovis killed with throwing 52 passes. There were no draws, no counters, no full back, no i formation, no qb under the center. It was just pure pass. You can’t win that way.

      2. “Stupid” is the word. I can always understand a receiver pushing off to get free or an incidental face mask as your hand is reaching out to make a tackle —but it’s just plain stupid to continue a take down after you’ve already stopped a play AND the whistle is blown.
