USC Morning Buzz: An Example Of Faith, Family And Football?

So remember how the conventional wisdom is that whatever you think of Clay Helton as a football coach, he is a great guy, a nice guy, however you want to describe it.

Well, one story I’ve heard from two Pac-12 football coaches is that Helton supposedly called USC strength coach Aaron Ausmus on Dec. 20 and told him he had done a great job this year working under the constraints of COVID-19.

Ausmus then received a phone call on Dec. 23 from Helton telling him that USC was going in another direction and Ausmus would not be retained.

Was Helton being a hypocrite?

Was he ordered to let Ausmus go? Maybe.

Then add him to the list of USC people who put their dignity in the junk pile to follow orders.

Either way, it’s not quite an example of Faith, Family and Football.

  • Did you notice when Steve Sarkisian posed for a picture as the new Texas coach, he was accompanied by his wife, Loreal?

Track fans might remember Loreal Smith was an assistant sprints coach at USC from 2014-16. A good quiz might be who has fired more assistant coaches? Track coach Caryl Smith Gilbert or Helton?

He was married to Stefanie when he was introduced as the new head coach at SC when the press conference showed her and the two kids, and now you are also saying he was married to Loreal Smith. My goodness Sark was quite a player no wonder he hit the bottle so hard when both women divorced him when he got fired at USC.

  9. This is why Gomer keeps his job, he does what he’s told, he doesn’t have a spine, he doesn’t stand up for what he believes in, which isn’t much, he’s the perfect dope for USC.

    And yes 67, Bohn is calling the shots on the assistants, just like Swann got Gomer the RB coach who FLED to KC after one year. Gomer knows no one except his daddies old buddies, he’s such a complete fraud as a head coach and USC hired him and then extended him, says a lot for the powers that be at USC as well.
