One of the funnier aspects of the USC football, for those on the inside, is how few decisions Clay Helton makes.
I’m not even talking about the ones being made by his superiors like hiring assistant coaches.
I’m talking about little decisions, that Helton still gets to make, which he continually farms out to a support staff member. I could name him but it’s not important.
“Clay can’t blink without (his support staffer telling him what to do,” a former USC coach said.
“Every time (Helton gets asked something), he asks his guy, `what do you think?’ It’s insane.”
The truth is this stuff sounds implausible but for the people who work within the football program (who do read this blog), they know it is true. Like I said, a sideways program.
