How many of you think UCLA was better than USC this season?
How many of you thought UCLA would almost beat Gonzaga?
How many of you thought USC could have done better vs. Gonzaga?
How many of you think Mick Cronin is a better coach than Andy Enfield?
All respect to UCLA. They fought their hearts out….. did L. A proud!

Yeah the Bruins made us all feel like we won the lottery this season sports.
How let’s review……
*December 12th (Happy Birthday from Ucla to SAMBAM)
The kick return by Gary Bryant Jr, the catch by Vaughns and then Klovis to St. Brown!!!
Yes happy birthday to me indeed!
*Feb 6th
Beat down at the Galen Center!
*March 6th
I thought I was gonna have to check the Flux capacitor and see what year it was because it happened again. Game winner!
They played tough for sure. No BS, but Gonzaga wouldn’t go away every time Ucla thought they could go up they brought the ball up court and topped the Bruins. Great game. It also took the stinger away from the Trojans loss to Gonzaga.
Good ol Bruins with the right medicine this year for me at least🙂

Cronin is a better coach hands down. With the level of talent, Enfield underachieves like Clay Helton. Enfield’s teams are soft like Clay’s teams.

MIck is a way better coach than Enfield. The next couple years are going to have UCLA become a top program and USC sink back down after the Mobley bros are gone. There are so many ways that Enfield teams are poorly coached.

Taking nothing away from a great Cinderella tournament story, Cronin is still 0-4 vs. USC.
What is the point? Fire Enfield? Go ahead, but how much will Caruso spend on a replacement? And in any case, they aren’t going to fire both Enfield and Helton. And if just one is fired, then let’s send Clay packing.

I totally get your point…..but Enfield gave Scott a free shot on this one. No matter how much good coaching went before it, Enfield screwed the pooch in that Gonzaga game. It’s just his bad luck that the other L. A. coach got a chance in the next game to show what he could do. In the long run this probably isn’t gonna make a difference —but for the immediate future Enfield is gonna have to eat it…

I like the idea that Scott is not a homer. However, his daily criticism of USC sports is so overdone that reading his daily columns is getting boring! He must have something more to offer his readers.

Scott can’t be boring if he’s churning out original USC stories 24/7, 365 a year. He offers unparalleled looks at the school, while providing a platform for free speech, which many alumni appreciate.

Scott’s best is grand. But there are some posts that are nothing more than clickbait. He doesn’t need to go to that level. At least I hope he doesn’t.

It’s unrealistic to expect 100% in such a task. You and the professor might miss some too, if you were Scott.

not expecting 100%, or close to that. All of us honestly swing and miss. But the clickbait isn’t swing and miss. Scottie knows what he is doing with that, buty it may not be serving the purpose that he is hoping for.

I figure he averages 3(many days there are 4)USC stories per day. Multiply that times 365 days a year and you get 1095, or so, USC stories each year by Scott Wolf, many unique ones. Who does that? Not many, so I salute him, knowing I won’t like everything. That’s life.

At his best Scott is a master [and at his worst he’s still better than the L. A. competition]. I think what bugs you, 67, is there are times when you can almost SEE Scott’s impish smile staring at you between the lines as you’re reading a piece about Clay or Andy.

Coaching is everything. It was obvious that USC was not prepared to play Gonzaga. Here USC sweeps UCLA this season and we get decimated by Gonzaga while UCLA had a chance to beat them.

Wow…did we miss out on Johnny Juzang who is very close to the Mobley family. He carried UCLA in this tournament, and I would be very surprised if he does not turn pro. No question he is a great player definitely ready right now for the NBA right now
Hats off to Mick Cronin. Good coach, and proved that defense wins games in the tournament. What a battle UCLA played a perfect game we did not because we were not prepared.

ucla had a 3.3 second breakdown. Suggs slipped into the front court undefended, threw up a prayer and it went in. ucla failed to defend and pressure in the back court. if they had, maybe ucla would be playing on Monday. What Scottie should have mentioned is that Cronin was a way better coach than Mark Few last night. Zags never quite figured out what to do against bruins. I was really surprised Zags never tried to press/trap bruins as they are really good at that (e.g. see USC game).
LikeLiked by 2 people
Few did not call a timeout with 3.3 seconds left. Conscious decision to not let the defense get set up after UCLA obsessively sprinted back on defense the whole game. That alone was the winning chess move in the coaching battle.
We did press/trap. They burned us on it. Every time. Dunk, Juzang 3, etc. Neither the result in this game or the USC game can be chalked up to one factor, i.e. coaching. Last night was just a helluva performance by both teams and coaches. As Kenny Smith said, UCLA didn’t lose, they just ran out of time.

Lipton, I didn’t see the whole game, I did see most of the second half and OT. Pressure must have been before that.
that last 3.3 sec was the only breakdown I saw ucla had. They seemed completely unprepared for that. No doubt it was going to be Suggs taking the ball, and he got unimpeded to be able to heave a 40 footer. The hoop gods smiled on him. Ironically, it was John Wooden who was the champion of the bank shot…

Not a Bruin fan but what a tournament. Beat a 1 and 2 tournament seed and was equal to the nation’s #1 team for the entire game.
I still prefer 50-0.

And the ucla coach that liked Scottie’s post about the interloper practicing and catching punts? Neuheisel’s son. After that 50-0, surprised that they let Rick’s son become a bruin coach. Maybe the acorn fell far enough from the tree with Rick’s kid. or maybe not.

At some point, there will be a wikipedia entry called “Being Kiffined”. As in losing 50-0. I posted this before, but it is a good story, so one more time. The next day after Neuheisel got kiffined, my wife and I were at the local farmer’s market, and Neuheisel and his wife are there. He was a shell of a man. Just devastated, wandering around, he wasn’t even engaged, she kept talking to him “Honey, how about this basket of berries?” Porch light may have been on, but Rick for sure wasn’t at home. I guess he didn’t end the monopoly.

Yeah —that one was hard on Rick’s psyche —-but I think that last second Matt Barkley TD in the Coliseum may have hurt him just as much. Check it out on YouTube —-Lil’ Rick and his assistants all butt-hurt, screaming “fuck you’s” at Pete & our bench. Ah! It was beautiful.

Last night’s Gonzaga-sucla college basketball game was one for the ages.
And it wasn’t.
Not being a sucla fan, I never personalize or remember its players’ names. As far as I care they could suit-up Abbott and Costello, and the 3 Stooges. Still, I felt a little badly abut the cruel ending.
I mean, come on, all night long the referees were giving free passes to both teams charging the basket as if they were Kamikaze suicide fighters– Until the last play in regulation. A ticky-tack charging call on the Midget-Bears, thus denying them a chance to win the game with free throws.
Fancies emerged of shady gambler-rings calling the ref prior to tipoff “Hey, ref, Luigi here–listen–if the game is tight at the end make sure Gonzo gets your best call, if you know what I mean. I got’s 100-grand here with your name on it.”
Whatever! Poor sucla comng up less than full was akin to Snow White’s possee beng a dwarf short; Cinderella forgetting to take her shoes to the Ball that night; or having Prince Charming, as it turns out, not being a transformable frog, but a mere impregnable toad.
And let us not forget Gonzaga, despite winning, is not above reproach. Its clever-shooting Center, “The Beard,” just had to flex his muscles after many made-shots. That bush on his face was not the only ‘bush’ that describes him.
And Suggs. After striking the final blow with a banked prayer, instead of embracing his now-maniacal team in a memorable embrace, decides to jump on a table lording over his peasant-like teammates, and display a poor- man’s rendition of Muhammad Ali’s clown-act. Sorry, but that suggs.
And alas, this morning lay on the sucla campus ‘porch’ an Easter basket– it was empty!

I was waiting for someone to comment on officiating. The NCAA should take some of the $300 million they take home for the tournament and hire professional refs and pay them enough. I saw calls and non-calls that were jaw droppers.

Getting back to Scottie’s free feed, several times a day, 365 per year. God bless the young man. But one more point to make to Stephen M about the frequency of posting, as sometimes less is more. We can always have some fun, keeping a post going for days, it takes on a life of its own. Like today. Like we did last summer when Scottie migrated to SI for a couple of months. How many entries did we have on Scottie’s last post? Thousands? Of course, it did devolve into politics at some point, but WTF, it was fun, and we kept Scottie’s seat warm until he got back.
