Alijah Vera-Tucker Goes To Jets

The Jets traded up to get the 14th pick and chose Alijah Vera-Tucker.

The Jets hope he works out as well as the last USC offensive lineman they took in the first round: Marvin Powell in 1977.

The Jets recently have taken these USC players in first round: Mark Sanchez (2009); Leonard Williams (2015) and Sam Darnold (2018).

They also took Dave Cadigan (1988) and Keyshawn Johnson (1996).

  1. “The Jets could upgrade at both guard spots, and Vera-Tucker is my top-ranked guard. They need to protect Zach Wilson, because they didn’t protect Sam Darnold.”

    1. Excuses, excuses, excuses ’67. You rag on Rosen who has had virtually no protection in the NFL, but the Piglet’s ugly, shoddy, 3 year Jets’ performance gets a pass based on little protection. LOL!

    1. The Jets continue to draft marginal SUCC players in the first round and then wonder why they aren’t worth keeping.

      1. So MG, the Piglet’s 13 – 25 W/L Jets record isn’t ugly and shoddy?

He indicated loudly that he wished to continue as the Jets QB but he was traded to Carolina for a bag peanuts draft choice.

  3. You can’t help wonder whether SC made a mistake getting rid of Drevno. He had two 1st round draft choices off the O-Line in these last 2 years. Also, I wish we still had J.T. Daniels. Harrell never was excited about him despite the fact that he was the offensive player of the year in High School and he had the best true freshmen year of any QB in SC history(including Matt Barclay).

    1. Gotta say again…. I’m sure JT is happy as can be being in Georgia where they actually embrace his talents. Unlike here, where he was always jeered and mocked, the dawg fans love him.

  5. Congrats to Alijah Vera-Tucker!
I could see he was legit from his CIF game but he was by far the best OL at SC the last few seasons and now is rewarded and he deserves this.

  6. but take this in a broader scope, why hasn’t SC have more than just one first rounder in the last few years? I the Carroll and Mckay days, there were multiple first rounders. Now, SC is only getting one. Why hasn’t SCproduced more than one with Helton? Because Helont does not run a football program, he runs an ice cream truck.
