USC Morning Buzz: Winners And Losers Of The Week

WINNERS

Isaiah Mobley

He gets to be the center piece of USC basketball next season despite averaging only 9.9 points per game last season.

Arizona

It sounds like the Wildcats are the leader for tight end Keyan Burnett, who decommitted from USC last week. USC losing a prized recruit to Jedd The Fisch? Or even worse, assistant coach Brennan Carroll. That’s criminal.

Marcelo Mayer

The shortstop from Chula Vista signed with USC but was the No. 4 pick overall in the MLB Draft. His signing bonus would be around $6,6 million. Mayer had 14 home runs and 45 RBI for Eastlake High School.

Jake Smith

He’s a receiver from Texas. Of course he is transferring to USC.

LOSERS

Seth Doege

The USC tight ends coach is Graham Harrell’s buddy. But does that make a recruit want to come to USC?

Clay McGuire

Another Harrell-led hire. The offensive line coach is presumably responsible for USC taking a three-star offensive lineman last week.

Seeley Mudd

He donated his estate in San Marino to USC only to see the university sell it because Carol Folt wanted to live in Santa Monica.

USC baseball

See above on Marcelo Mayer.

  1. Three star projects on the O-Line and a mediocre(at best) O-Line coach will probably mean a third year in a row where they can’t run the ball.

  2. If Brennan Carroll believes in Keyan Burnett we’re lucky Keyan left. No one goes after the wrong guys better than Brennan. And Pete knows it —that’s why Brennan isn’t at Seattle.

  3. Well, my quesiton is, how long will this black cloud hang over SC? SC heiracy have to wake up and smell the Tournament of Roses and get rid of Dolt, Bonhno, and Humpity dumpty Helton. They need to change the culture at SC from being in “Woke” mode to “Be Proud” at SC

    1. I agree. [But, old friend, the “they” you’re asking to “get rid of Folt and Bohn” are the same “they” that put them there]…

  4. No real winners here today. Everyone woke up under Scott’s wrath. Basketball player, winner except he can only score nine points a game. Loser Seeley Mudd for donating his estate to USC (because at the time the tax advantages were much lower) but really a donation isn’t a donation if it comes with a stipulation that requires you to use it for only one purpose.
USC should have been a winner because they dumped a shack in an upturned market.

    1. Financially responsible? How’s this for C.L. Max Nikias being “financially responsible”…

USC pays UCSD $50M, and gives the school an apology, for raiding its Alzheimer’s program

      Damn!

  5. The writing is on the wall and Graham Harrell has a limited future at SC. So we have just one more season before some sanity can be restored to this program.

Turns out that hiring unqualified coaches doesnt work..hmm…maybe we can apply this philosophy to university presidents, too?

What is the matter with the USC BOT? Why have they allowed that incompetent Caruso to run rough-shod all over the place? First we have Nikias with all his problems and now Folt, with all her limitations.

    1. What is the matter with the USC BOT? Have you ever seen a photo of this collectivity? Do you see someone in that group we can look to for leadership?

      1. Things are getting pretty bad around here when Cal75 doesn’t even come around to “save us” from a misspelling….

      2. The entire USC Board of Trustees are on the take, all beneficiaries of C.L. Max Nikias shady corrupt dealings.

The aforementioned criminals want USC to stay out of the spotlight. Too much attention and the media poking around will eventually uncover more scandals and corruption.

Caruso should be worrying about the rumored video taken aboard his yacht showing him in a compromising position.

You all know how youtubers love to shoot video. Caruso should know that as well.

    2. Who’s going to restore sanity to the program, the same clowns who have been running it into the ground for a decade now?

OH MY SIDE HURTS FROM LAUGHING SO MUCH!

AHA HA HA HA HA HA HA!

NAME ONE INSTANCE THAT YOU CAN POINT TO WHERE YOU CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT USC WAS ACTUALLY INTERESTED IN OR ATTEMPTING TO MAKE THE RIGHT DECISIONS AS FAR AS PERSONNEL THAT WOULD HELP RESTORE THE PROGRAM’S RETURN TO PROMINENCE.

THERE HASN’T BEEN! USC CONTINUES TO HIRE A BUNCH OF PUPPETS, YES MEN, FIGUREHEADS ALL FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF KEEPING THE STATUS QUO.

CLAY HELTON IS AT USC FOR A REASON, TO KEEP THE PROGRAM MEDIOCRE. NO OTHER SCHOOL WOULD HAVE KEPT THAT 3RD RATE AT BEST FRAUD OF A HEAD COACH AROUND AS LONG AS USC HAS. AND THEY’LL PROBABLY GIVE HIM ANOTHER CONTRACT EXTENSION NEXT YEAR, AT THE SAME TIME GIVING TROJAN FOOTBALL FANS THE FINGER ONCE AGAIN.

THE C.L. MAX NIKIAS DE-EMPHASIS OF TROJAN FOOTBALL IS ALIVE AND WELL AND NOT CHANGING ANYTIME SOON…GET USED TO IT!

  6. Here is a link for USC’s BOD:

Amazing as there are so many successful people on this list.
Also, looks like nearly all are baby boomer generation or older which means they understand importance of USC football to the institution and were around during the glory years!!

It is time for a change to the current culture polluting my alma mater.
The U.S. Supreme Court gave us the path to get USC back in front. The question is will USC realize that or will the unvaccinated morons in the SEC/ACC/Big 12 continue their dominance and now get even more dough due to NILs etc.

That is the primary solution for SC and the PAC right now. At least SIX teams in the PAC have extremely wealthy alums. The AD’s need to get NIL money to players. $3-5+ million dollar coach’s salaries IMHO are bizarre.
Get alum gifts routed to athletes instead of coach’s salaries. Every 1st team offense and defense for the four California schools in the PAC should be bringing down at least 100k yr. That’s $2.2 million per school/yr for football.
We need to buy those 4* & 5* and keep them on the west coast. It literally makes me sick when I see those student/athletes go East.

    1. The NIL mandate will force marginal to some B+ FB programs to consider dropping into Div. II or III conf. ‘s or eliminating their FB programs altogether. For instance, Long Beach St. has competitive conf. athletic programs w/o a FB program.
