Malachi Nelson Commits To Oklahoma

Los Alamitos QB Malachi Nelson committed to Oklahoma over USC today.

The 5-star QB is the No. 2 player overall in the nation per Rivals.

I will have a story in Monday’s newsletter on how USC slipped up during his recruitment.

“It’s been a crazy time, but I’ve loved every minute of it,” Nelson said on CBS Sports.

  3. They slipped up by signing another QB who will soon be a 5 star as well. But Scottie won’t give credit for being in early on a guy who was clearly underrated.

It would be nice to get some more OLine help. Campus visits don’t count.

  5. Okay so I’m late to the game again. What did I miss? Oh yesterday the buzz looked so much like one of many ads on the site I totally missed it was Saturday Buzz. The tee-shirt has to be an inside joke. Larry Scott’s parting gift to the PAC 12: Pandemic schedule where you play only teams from your neighborhood. That shirt is either proof the P.T. Barnum was right about the birth of suckers, or made by the same people who sell “My kid is an honor student at Fartdingle Elementary School bumper stickers”
    So much for yesterday.
Today we have the usual “oops we lost a recruit.” B. F.D. We lose some recruiting battles, even to Jokelahoma. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out what other teams are telling kids about SC. “The coaches suck, the head coach won’t last the season which means the guy who recruited you will be gone too.” ” USC runs the air raid system now. You won’t develop under that system, you want to go to the NFL don’t you. ”
Until USC sports itself out, they are going to be fighting themselves as much as other teams in recruiting.
Now I’m caught up. Where’s Pud- buddy ?

  6. Rumor has it that Dear Pisley scored a large, near pristine refrigerator carton that he’s converting to a second story on top his cardboard hovel, underneath a Grapevine freeway overpass.

      2. By purely waiting for actual football games to comment on, Pudly is forcing his comrades to do the heavy lifting in the meantime, Cal75. Remember how Galahad purely went off searching for the Holy Grail …and let his brother knights fight Mordred’s army by themselves?

    1. pudly got thrown off the Venice beach boardwalk by L.A. County Sheriff Deputies, he tried to plead his case, but the Sheriff’s told him to kick rocks and tell his story walkin’.

After rummaging through Tito’s Tacos trash cans for something to eat, pudly was last seen headed east on Overland pushing his shoppjng cart with all his belongings.

  7. Another mobile/dual threat QB gone. You need this type of QB with the type of offensive lineman USC is recruiting. Sad….he has to go to school at Oklahoma but can you blame him.

    1. It’s funny that Helton doesn’t see it: a 4.3 40 guy who can throw solves ALL the recruiting failures and shitty o-line coaches he’s bestowed on us.

      1. I guess having the reigning Gatorade National Player of the Year on campus as the Quarterback in waiting had nothing to do with USC not picking up a commitment from Nelson.
Oh and USC having a commitment from a kid who just had a great week at the Elite 11 probably had nothing to do with it either.
I can’t wait to see what the “Insider” has for us.

      2. We probably get him with any coach not named Clay Helton. But I think Devin Brown’s week at the Elite 11 making a lot of noise in the media probably made his decision easier.

      3. Oklahoma signed Caleb Williams, the 5 star #1 QB in the 2021 recruiting class, and has Spencer Rattler starting who is the #1 ranked QB in the nation right now, and they’ve got more top QBs lined up. So nah, I don’t think it’s that SAS. He’s walking into a place with more competition.

I’ll be rooting for Devin Brown, though a 3-4 star running a 5.2 40 behind a porous line and a run-for-your-life-til-a-receiver-is-open offense is neither the recruitment decision nor the recruitment angle for SC right now. USC losing a local 5 star dual threat sprinter with a cannon arm in this situation is a big loss and no reason for it, except the HC and OC and general bad air around the program right now.

      4. I think you nailed it, Global. I don’t see any other way of looking at it.
No 5 star meets Clay and thinks, “This is the guy who gets me to the NFL —he’s got winner written all over him!”

      5. I vaguely recall this site all agog over one Jaxson Dart just a few weeks ago….

Seems the pundits here change their minds faster than a first term congressman trailing in the polls.

We have 3 fine QB’s to build upon. Per above, need some C/G/T’s to protect them.

  8. Michael: You are correct. With a poor offensive line a mobile QB is imperative. The last real mobile QB we had was Vince Evans who struggled his first year passing, but wow did he improve in his senior senior. Paul Hackett, should get alot of credit for that, and although he was not a good head coach he was an outstanding QB coach. Vince, was one of my favorites he had a rocket for an arm, and once he discovered how to put touch on the ball he was incredibly effective.

Sam Darnold had decent mobility also, and people forget that Carson Palmer had good speed and mobility until he injured his collarbone which forced him to stay in the pocket his last season at SC.

I am hoping the new kid Dart from Utah can finally bring us a mobile QB.

    1. May I add to your last sentence, tommyd? Hope Dart is the mobile QB we’ve all been waiting for….AND…. that Helton starts using him as soon as it’s obvious the line is struggling…..

  9. Good point again Michael! I am sure Dart will get into some games early in the season to get some experience.. Slovis will have trouble running for cover once the strong defenses in the conference knock holes in our weak offensive line. Sadly, USC may need all 3 QB’s this year if we cannot protect the QB this season.

  10. Neither…probably against Utah, and Arizona State who have good defensive fronts. Slovis will look like Johnny Unitas vs. San Jose St, but I imagine the kids will go into the game late in the 4th qtr. to get some experience, but then again that is if Helton and Harrell were smart coaches which is not the case.

  11. I heard Pudley is at an international ping pong tournament. Let’s wish him luck, and a safe return. I hear he uses two paddles in big tournaments once that Says -USC, and the other UCLA.

  12. We have Devin Brown the previous year and Dart or Moss will also be there, so this is not a big loss. We need to see o-line recruits, that is where we have a big problem.

My guess is that McGuire has to prove that he can create a strong offensive line, or we will only get 3 star projects. So this will be all about how well he develops talent.
