Morning Buzz: USC Wants To Charge $496 For “Tailgate Pass”

Does USC want fans to attend games?

It’s latest scheme is to sell a “tailgate pass” that allows you to tailgate in certain areas around the Coliseum for $496!

USC tries to blame it on the state but never explains why it cost $496! for a pass in certain lots around the Coliseum. It affects the South Lawn, Green Lot (Lot 6), Green Lot Preferred (Lot 6 Preferred) and Blue Structure (Museum Rooftop).

Now this is not everywhere and you can go to certain areas on campus but it still seems ridiculous to charge that much merely for the right to tailgate where you park.

Here are some of the details:

  1. Always so negative, Scott. Why not point out that even fans going to ONE SINGLE game are being allowed to tailgate in the Special Lots? That means the whole family can see the San Jose State game (and enjoy the South Lawn beforehand) for less than $2500.

    1. USC would have to pay me $496 to attend a game with that idiot Clay Helton as the head coach.

Only a sucker would pay to go watch that clown Helton make an ass of himself and the university.

  2. Let’s see. You’ve got a sub par school president, athletic director/department, head football coach, and a Molly mediocre football team, which has all but alienated your fan base. Now you want them to fork out $500 for the privilege to tailgate? You people are either stoned, stupid, or both.

    1. They are stupid because I am stoned now. I get it and I’m just a fan. Those 2 idiots get paid millions to be incompetent and keep fans away from attending games. Way to alienate your fan base Bohn and Folt.

      1. To make matters worse, Folt is directing campus security to conduct warrantless searches of fans’ homes if they mention the word “stoned” in their posts…..

  3. GREED—USC is trying to sock it to all their true fans who are still willing to attend games despite their unhappiness with the program and Clay Helton. Season ticket sales are at an all time low so why penalize those who still want to spend their Saturdays rooting for the Trojans to have a decent season. Loyalty they say is a two way street except it appears at USC.

  4. More management incompetent and tone deafness. I am becoming less and less of a believer in Bohn. He just isnt up to the task.

The pathetic marketing communications, the failures of the “upgraded” recruiting staff, the lack of any clear direction in terms of maximizing the value and prestige of the USC athletic programs, and even spending a big sum of money on a woman’s basketball coach while neglecting the men’s basketball and football programs that generate all the revenues.

Not sure if Bohn is merely playing the long game and we will see massive improvements once they finally fire Helton, or whether this is the best we get from Bohn.

      1. I hope you are right. I just dont see competence coming out of anything related to Heritage Hall. So much potential, but it just gets wasted, again and again…

      2. Note To Bohn: Sometimes Athletic Directors have SUCH long range plans that they’re gone before they get results…..

  5. It does suck that USC is charging so much to tailgate. I wish it was much lower, but the concept of having tailgate only areas could be pretty fun. Everyone parks in one area of these lots and then just a big party in the other area.

I don’t see how they will enforce anything though.

    1. Folt: “Glad you asked about enforcement, BigMac. Ordinarily, as you know, I’m against citizens owning guns. I prefer the Road of Righteousness. But when it comes to enforcing our right to charge $500 for Green Lot & Blue Lot, I’m a big believer in the Second Amendment….”

      1. So you don’t think that these charges apply primarily to catering companies that charge fans for their tailgate services?

    2. Beyond scheduling a Pac-12 vs Big 8 (12-4) home and away September Football series and/or MBB/WBB series, I don’t think the Pac working with a dead and decaying conference of academically (and athletically) inferior schools is a positive for the Pac.

Baylor and TCU are solid Universities and worth adding to the super conference.
The remaining 6 are duds. Okie State is likely inferior to Cal State LA academically, and we’re not adding CS-LA to the Pac.

  7. Maybe they are jacking up the prices to push fans to other events. In the flyer, it said the TAF Pre – Game Party is another option.

I wonder how much that costs? Maybe our intrepid blogger can track down that info and see if the $496 tailgate pass is intended to move fans to the Pre Game Party option.

  8. Scooter,

I hope you can answer this, the question I have is, who will determine what a tailgate is and what will be the criteria to call it a tailgate? Ex. So if I park there like I normally do, get out of my car and eat a sandwich will they consider that a tailgate or does it have to be a full blown affair where you are bbqing, have a bar open and people playing corn? Also, $496 per game or for the season?

    1. $500 for the season, PT —but, of course, it turns into $500 for one game if you only attend one home game….

  9. Sccoter,

My questions are as follows: is that $496 for the entire season or for just one game? Also, If i park there like I used to and just eat a sandwhich will I be charged or if I set up a full blown bbq, bar, and playing corn, will that be considered a tailgate? Who will determine if it is just a parking place or a tailgate and what is the criteria for it being a tailgate? We gots to know.

Trojans do not even consider eating sammies. It’s white wine, stuffed mushrooms and quiche.

However, when you travel north to Furd and Cal the next two years, tail gating at the Farm and the Clairmont is free of charge. Dogs and burger eaters welcome. Coors encouraged. Shuttles gratis.

  13. Scooter,

My friend was already paying for the parking space that you had mentioned in previous years, around $300 for the season. Now, are you saying that they have to pay an additional $196 or do they pay the $300 plus the $496 to park?
