Sunday Night With Clay Helton

Not a lot of news from Clay Helton, naturally.

Here is the injury report:

Chris Steele (shin laceration)

Drake Jackson (thigh bruise)

Nick Figueroa (AC sprain)

They are all day-to-day.

Wide receiver Gary Bryant is expected to return from health and safety protocols. So is Isaiah Pola-Mao.

The rest of Helton’s time was spent on fluff like how safety Calen Bullock has gained 20 pounds since he arrived at USC.

  1. Bullock was terrific as a true freshman starter. Kid has plenty of upside.

AC sprain (Figueroa), unless it is really mild, is going to be more than “day to day”. If Figueroa is out for Stanford, then Foreman gets more reps. He was on the QB constantly in the first half when Jackson was playing. Pass rush not nearly as effective when Jackson was on bench in second half.

BTW, WTF was up with Helton’s shirt? Didn’t any one of all those grad assistants not advise him to do that? Worst look in college football in at least the last 10 years. If not, please post a photo that is even worse.

Helton is a guy who would benefit from dressing in coat and tie, no matter what the temp is. At least he would look the part.

    1. Scott needs to do a regular, “If it’s Sunday, It’s Time to Trash Helton” feature. Everybody will come for that! (Oh, well —he can get him in the “Winners and Losers” column tomorrow)……

      1. USC RB Kendra Christon strained her pelvic muscle inserting her tampon and is listed as probable for the trip up to Pullman vs WAZZU.

Kendra Christon is definitely out vs Stanford as she still suffering from  Anaphylactic shock to her twat.

    2. Nailed it.

An A/C ” sprain” (separation) means no contact for Fig this week, and he’d be mostly useless against Stanford anyway. After Drake’s INT, if you watch the play, the SJS tackler head butted Drake’s thigh. Irrespective, when Drake J gets the ball he’s going for the endzone. Great motor. Hope we see him plenty of him in this, his final season.

I like the CB and safety play these past 7 games, and Bullock did well when pushed into action. Nice improvement. Gives us hope that we may be able to recruit and develop some premier inside LB’s some day. With a depleted D-line, it will be impossible to gauge S’oto’s work, but I’m optimistic.

  2. Reading the comments on the other topics, so now all of a sudden Ed Orgeron sucks, huh?

You Helton homers better get used to the fact that UCLA hired a real coach and after 4 years Chip has the players and team he put together, developed and the bruins are going to blow the fucking doors off this soft as usual USC team.

Helton has been at USC for 11 years now and he still sucks no matter how many, probably 8 or 9, top 10 recruiting classes in the nation USC has afforded him.

USC has 3 times as many 4 and 5 star players as UCLA and Helton’s soft ass team barely beat San Jose St.

13-7 going into the 4th qtr.? What a Goddamn joke!

      1. asses kicked , really?
their so called veteran q/b stunk, and I noticed they were in the game except for the terrible q/b passes that were thrown to sc defenders on a continuing basis, giving sc a touchdown or short field for points, usually field goals’cause sc could not punch it in.

    1. Got their asses kicked? What fucking game were you watching?

San Jose St. has one, maybe two 4 star players in their roster compared to the 34 that USC has and the Trojans were only leading 13-7 going into the 4th qtr. and you’re proud of that?

You MG are as big a joke and idiot as Clay Helton.

      USC Trojans 13…SJS Nobody’s 7 in the 4th qtr.?

    2. ucla hired a “real coach” Ha!

This “real coach” hasn’t had a winning season in about 10 years! He knew he ran out of tricks at Oregon, so then he went to Philly, he was run out there, then he went to the 49ers, he went 2-14, he was run out of there, then he took ucla for a 6-year $26 million ride! Good work if you can get it!

Chip has the worst record in the power five! Why are you even bringing up that has-been on a USC site?

      1. Chip’s team is now full of the players he recruited.

Do you think USC would have beat that LSU team yesterday?

If you say yes then you’re as moronic as MG.

      2. mostly I agree, except I think the ‘has been’ , he has been, is coming to an end this year; they look better than sc at this juncture in the football world…better get ready ,he has a dual threat q/b that sc has never been able to master.

      3. Disagree on Chip Kelly. He had a outstanding record at Oregon. NFL not his thing. Didn’t inherit a talented team at UCLA, but slowly and surely building them up.

    1. Where to start? I have it on reliable information the refs informed SJS right before the game they’d being playing 4 quarters. They were told in advance the final score —the one that would count —the ONLY one that would count —would be the one on the scoreboard when the coliseum clock was down to zero. SJS agreed.
USC beat the San Jose State team you were pimping before the game. (And) USC beat the spread (which surprised the crap outta of everybody here, including me). You bet on the wrong horse (again).

  5. Bru McCoy update????? The media and fans need to put pressure on Helton, and the University to make a decision on Bru McCoy. Prosecutors have dropped the case after reviewing the evidence..
Bru’s family needs a final decision by USC whether positive or negative so the young man can move forward with his life. Why USC takes so long as they have while reviewing other cases with athletes in the past is beyond belief. USC MAKE YOUR DECISION WHETHER HE CAN RETURN TO THE TEAM, THE UNIVERSITY OR KICKED OUT OF SCHOOL. It is almost like a decision has already been made, and USC has told the Athletic Dept. to remain silent, and let time pass so this incident will go away.

    1. As I’ve posted lately,
      “There is a precedent.”

Quintez Cephus was similarly treated at U Wisky.
The coaches and team supported him, though he was “expelled” for a season.
Once the “case” was settled, Cephus was reinstated, had a great season for Wisky, and
did well in the Combine and was drafted. He is doing quite well in the NFL so far.

If indeed Bru is 100% innocent, then support him and get him back into school.
He committed to the school and program, and if he is truly innocent then the School
should return the commitment. We’ll see if the privileged, multi-millionaires who run the school have the same level of commitment.

      1. On the play that set up the only SJS TD–a WR bubble screen–there was a brash and blatant hold by the WR that wasn’t called. Good eyes, Michael.

Had Helton thrown the flag to review the kid’s INT, the call would have been overturned. Good eyes, Michael.

Most of SJS yardage was junk yards vs our second teamers in the 4th qtr.

Irrespective, compared to prior years the team is showing more discipline and earning fewer stupid penalties. No INTs by the Slovis (albeit two fumbles by others) was nice to see. Some signs of improvement, even if it has taken a decade.

And USC only led 13-7 in the 4th qtr.

The refs don’t blow the whistle cuz he’s still moving his arms even though he’s been stopped. So what happens? Defenders are punching him all the way to the turf. That’s why he jumped up and started yelling at the SJS safety in the first quarter: He got punched.

I just don’t know if they’re “big problems.”
We’ll talk about it around midnight (Colorado-time) Saturday after the game.

Slovis had several sweet throws which seem to indicate that the shoulder/elbow are good. That TD pass to Kroemenhoek was big-league! With ARSB and TV gone, Slovis
is gonna have to have confidence in someone other than London.

Your guy Christon could sure help vs the ‘furd.
I was shocked to see two RB’s in the backfield yesterday.
Maybe we set up Ingrahm and Christon in the backfield and sneek #23 into the flat for
        a few plays?

      4. Not playing Kenon Christon against Stanford would be dumb. But he has to be used properly — get him into space on a short pattern…and let him take it from there. I’ve seen him stopped for no gain too many times when we just hand it to him. I’d love it if we brought Dart in when we get to the 5 yard line. It would give Stanford too much to think about. And I wish we’d think about doing what Mora did at UCLA —let a big linebacker take the ball on offense when we’re in first and goal situations. Was the guy named Miles Jack or something? I can’t recall. He’d just plow his way in with 3 Trojans on him.

  7. SJS #1 offense gains 140 yard (of its 300+ ) in the late 4th qtr after Johnson’s pick six, when we had the game well in hand and were liberally substituting–seventy-four yards on the final drive vs our #2 D.

That said, don’t look at our MLB tackling stats.
    Truly worrisome.

    1. P.S.
Slovis IS 100% for now —but he won’t stay that way if he continues holding the ball for that extra second. He’d actually be better off (safety-wise) if he just pumped and ran in those situations instead of waiting for something to open up down field.
