USC Morning Buzz: Thursday Notes

A USC player from the early 1970’s sent me this:

“If you want to know what a great guy Sam Cunningham was, he was the only teammate of Lynn Swann that was still friends with him.”

  • The athletic department still wields plenty of influence to shut down major campus hubs and thoroughfares in the middle of a school week for a ribbon-cutting reception.

The new Colich Track and Field Center (on the corner of Cromwell Field) opens Friday, with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting event being attended by “many VIPs.” As a result, McClintock Avenue will be closed between 35th Street and Downey Way, starting at noon on Thursday 9/9, extending through 5 pm on Friday, 9/10.

  1. The game will be fun—but lets face it, not the same without Yogi.
I re-watched the game against SJS: It appears we’re not afraid to take chances on defense —which is the mark of a confident team. We ARE afraid to open up on offense —which is the mark of Clay. I get the feeling he’s always saying “something could go wrong if we spread the ball around more.”

      1. Fingers crossed Jackson and Figueroa are good to go. If those guys are healthy, the D may be a lot better than last year, and last year was an improvement from 78th in the country to 40th.

    1. There is a saying; “Feet of clay” which means: “a fundamental flaw or weakness in a person otherwise revered.”
Since Clay is all clay (not just feet) this could be the exact explanation we’ve been looking for. This brings up an interesting topic for the dinner table…If he has has kids how were they conceived?
If you do figure that out, don’t tell me because I’m already having visions of the incredible melting man in bed.

  2. I should respond to this post with useless political comments because life is passing me by. Anyway, I’ll convince no one of my opinion because this is a sports blog and anyone who may be receptive to a difference of opinion is most likely turned off by my obnoxious and offensive behavior.

My side are hurting because I’m laughing so much (or some other typically vapid comment I make to hide my insecurities).

    1. Here’s a political comment for you. Trump is so irrelevant! He’s now commentating the washed up Holyfield fight! 😂😂😂 and you morons fought so hard for him. 🤣 🤣🤣

      1. My goodness! I’m so absolutely clueless. I just did the exact thing I sarcastically said I would do in a previous post not realizing that I was making fun of myself. However, I was intelligent enough to post my political commentary under a different and offensive screen name so my IQ may be approaching double digits. Welp! It’s almost time for me to keep sitting on my ass and contributing nothing to this world. If I had a clue, I would realize that people just eye roll whenever I comment.

    1. Wasn’t denied by the NCAA was denied by USC and Clay Helton. Same as when Chris Petersen denied the waiver on the QB that transferred to UCLA. JT is ok but this kid isn’t? Thanks Clay! Bitch.

      1. Such a little liar.

        Liar liar, pants on fire…

Show me one bit of evidence, then I’ll show you the transfer rule.

      3. JT wasn’t that good at USC, if he were to come back he still wouldn’t be that good at USC, which tells you it wasn’t JT it’s the coaching. we need to get rid of the Air Raid offense and the Coaches that go with it

    1. Somebody doesn’t know the transfer rules as well as he thinks he does. USC has to certify his eligibility to transfer. If he stopped going to class or was subject to disciplinary action USC can refuse to certify him.

  4. Clay Helton teams are good at beating up on the cupcakes and losing (sometimes big) to the good teams. That’s very unlike Pete Carroll who almost always won the big games. His loseswere usually to teams that he should have beaten. SC will be 4-0 and probably 5-0. From that point on I predict they will lose 3 out of their next 6 games and probably 4 out of their next 6.

  5. When does Sam get a building named after him? And he was too much of a gentleman to tell Lynn Swann he didn’t care for him. Nothing sadder than a one care funeral Lynn. (Pat Haden; “I’ll go if lunch is served)

    1. Has had (above) One car funeral. (For Lynn Swann) I have started writing my posts on a computer in MS word to check spelling and grammar before copying and pasting them here. I can assure you these mistakes are not part of the original post.
