I like the way Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff analyzed the Pac-12 North when he was interviewed by the Salt Lake City Deseret News.
“I was there for the UCLA-LSU game. I probably chose the right game this weekend. It was unfortunate how the North (Division) performed,” Kliavkoff said. “I think we’ll do better. We were coming off a COVID year. There are teams in our league that played three or four games over the last 20 months, playing against teams that have played as recently as April. Still, inexcusable to lose some of those games.”
- Is former USC LB Palaie Gaoteote the only player to have his transfer waiver denied in the current environment?
“Really, what I know that it was denied,” Ohio State coach Ryan Day said Thursday. “We are going to look back into it and see if there possibly can be some kind of appeal.”
Ohio State still hopes it can find a way to get Geoteote eligible this season.

With the exception of CJ Verdell, I don’t see much reliable offensive talent for the Ducks. Their QB is veteran and a dual threat. Against physical front 7’s, he’ll take
a few good hits along the way, and in the 4th QTR miss on those throws that are needed to win the big games against well-balanced teams.
I call it the Kalil Tate argument.
Deshaun Watson is about the only DT NCAAF QB I can think of who was so tough that he’d take the hits and win games in the 4th qtr with his arm and legs. Maybe Baker Mayfield also.
Ducks will lose a few games this year, but here’s to hoping the Trojans and Ducks line up in Vegas in December.

I like the tone of George’s comments too. I’m going to paraphrase him:

Transfer requirements for THIS year….
NCAA Division I One-Time Transfer FAQs
Student-athletes and families need to understand the key changes to the one-time transfer exception for those student-athletes seeking immediate eligibility when transferring from a four-year school to an NCAA Division I school beginning fall 2021*.
Student-athletes will want to seek assistance from their campus compliance administrator to ensure whether this one-time transfer exception will apply to their specific transfer situation. Student-athletes may also contact NCAA Customer Service at 317-917-6008 for general rules education. Please visit ncaa.org/transfer to view additional NCAA transfer guides and resources.

One-Time Transfer Exception Criteria for 2021-22 Enrollment
Postgraduate Transfer Prior Transfers
Q1: What criteria does the student-athlete need to meet in order to utilize the new Division I one-time exception to seek immediate transfer eligibility?
A1: In order to meet the criteria of the one-time transfer exception, the student-athlete must:
• Transfer from a four-year collegiate institution to an NCAA Division I school;
• Leave their current four-year school academically eligible;
• Have not transferred previously from another four-year institution, and
• Certify in writing, along with their new head coach, they did not have direct or indirect communication with the new school’s athletics staff prior to entering the NCAA Transfer Portal.
Additionally, a student-athlete must provide their current school with a written request to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal by July 1, 2021 (all sports) to use the one-time exception.
Other rules (e.g., disciplinary suspension at the previous school, transferable credits accepted by your new school, sport specific midyear transfer rules) may also factor into the campus compliance administrator’s certification of transfer eligibility.
Q2 What happens if a student-athlete does not satisfy the one-time transfer exception criteria but still decides to transfer?
A2: The student-athlete must attend full time and complete an academic year of residence at the new Division I school before being eligible for competition. Student-athletes should discuss additional transfer exceptions or eligibility options that may be available, depending on the specific transfer situation, with their campus compliance administrator.”
I’m guessing that the academic portion might’ve been the hang up.

Bingo you dipshit! He probably wasn’t academically eligible at USC hence USC doesn’t have to certify his eligibility to transfer. Read pages 9-15 of what I posted and you copy pasted out of. If you’ve got the slightest reading comp you’ll get it. Nice self own!

Your contention was that the school stopped him. The coach specifically. It was up to ohio st to qualify him, not usc. But if you’d read the first page you’d have saved yourself looking the fool accusing anyone at USC of trying to obstruct him…”like petersen did with that qb”.

Clearly by the rules of the portal, it is his new school that must certify his eligibility not the school he’s leaving. USC has even allowed jay toia to play when he was the one who they could’ve held up because he didn’t meet the July 1st deadline.
IE could’ve stayed in school and finished his semester like most other transfers but it was he who decided to leave and not finish.

He didn’t even start classes at OSU until June and had to pay for them. He wasn’t eligible here so USC has the right to decline his waiver as he wouldn’t have been eligible to play here. USC had the opportunity to say “fine, we don’t care – let him play” they chose not to

Because USC wouldn’t certify his eligibility to transfer because he wasn’t eligible to play at USC. JT was certified b/c he met the academic requirement to play. USC can waive this. They chose not to. Make of that what you wish. It doesn’t change why this happened. USC decided to decline to certify him.

The north of the PAC 12 didn’t really wave a banner for the conference of champions that much is true, but what is the cause for the decline?
Teboobumer: “I know it was Trump”
Me: “No it was Larry Scott the tennis player”
Rialto Trojan: “ I tell you it was Helton letting all the talent slip through his grasp like a second string quarterback on his daddy’s team “
Sorry the answer is the north has 2.5 teams with any chance of being a conference champion.
Owns: “It’s because Ucla isn’t up north”
Sorry the answer had been given.

The commissioner should have gone after the entire Pac 12 conference. It is weak and needs to become stronger in order to compete for the playoffs. SC is the straw that stirs the drink pertaining to the Pac 12. Get rid of Humpty Dumpty Helton and bring in a coach that will win against stiff competion, then the PAC 12 will be noticed, AGAIN.

Scooter,
You have not mentioned anything about the Stanford game this week. Is that because you are so disgusted with the program under Humpty Dumpty Helton that you decided to not to acknowledge the game.
Scooter, I will help you. There is great history between USC and Stanford. you have the Vow boys who vowed never to lose to USC, you have Mckay saying he wanted to beat Stanford by 2,000 points, you have Ayala kicking a field goal to win the game with no time on the clock, you have Gordie Banks blocking a field goal back in ’78 with Elway playing where Stanford came back from 18 point down. The game was a tie and affected SC, you have Bunce and Plunkett playing and going to the Rose Bowl game. There is much history and you need to write about it.
My prediction:
Trojans 31 – Indians 24. Scalp the Injuns.
However, to get rid of Humpty dumpty Helton, go Injuns and beat SC by 51 to 18. I hope they get rid of Helton, John, and Folt.

Nate Shaw–the all-american DB for USC–coached the defensive backs at USC.
He is a great guy and and outstanding Trojan. He and Norv Turner were about the only talented coaches JR I left at USC when JR fled for the Rams.
Never in my life have I ever rooted against the Trojans–under any circumstance.

Pac North–with all the coaching changes recently and with the “culture” surrounding their cities and Universities could be declining more quickly than the Pac South!
I was never sure Jimmy Lake was gonna be a great replacement for Chris P.
Time to bring back Rick Neuheisal or Ty Willingham.
Super Mario does coach a physical brand of football and SHOULD BE dominating the Pac. If he can recruit an OC and build an offensive team, watch out.
I’d like to see Wilcox also build a good offense to supplement his D scheme.
The time is right for Cal to rise to the top of the North.
Stanford? A mediocre sports program most of my younger life (age 0-45).
Looking to see those arrogant pretenders decline back to their usual place.
Time to bring back Buddy Teevens or Ty Willingham.

Many of the south wins have to be considered suspect at best to. utes played a team who hadn’t played in two yrs, and asu a team who didn’t play last year, then had to play two road games in 5 days.. ruins played one 5-5 team and another that is 5-6 since last season.

Well….
I have my history with the bRuins since about 1969, but I’m jumpin’ on the Chipper bandwagon this year. It is QUITE CONCEIVABLE that the bRuins go into mid October
unbeaten! You heard it here first.
They get this w/e off to “heal up” and savor a nice W (and avert the dreaded ambush game which follows after an emotional W), then host (a gamer) Fresno State.
Then, a long trip (about 350 miles north) to a neutral site game at
Stanford. The entire month of September without leaving the time zone or playing in a hostile environment. The “sissy blues” (per Ed Orgeron) should end September 4-0 and ranked. Host ASU then travel to UA and then travel to UW. If Chipper can keep the ground game going, he’s 7-0 before HOSTING the Ducks.
While I’ve expounded repeatedly on the favorable Trojan schedule, the baby bears have a nice schedule set-up also. I’m rooting for a 9-1 Bruin team to invade the Coliseum late in November.
…of course inexplicable losses are part of the UCLA FB experience, so a drubbing in Tucson or vs the Fighting Karl Dorell’s is always a possiblitily. Snick Snick.

How about USC 34, Trees 16. Trees gave up 230 yards on the ground to K-State, on about 30 or so carries, so this could be a game for the Trojans to run wild.
LikeLiked by 3 people
K-state’s O-line looked a little more, well, “physical” than the Trojan’s, but I’m hoping for a 30 run (for 150) 35 pass (for 300) effort vs Stanford tomorrow with better red zone scoring for USC.
Shaw always plays a slow version of CFB, so getting 70 plays run vs the ‘furd is challenging. Last week, K state ran about 46 plays from scrimmage (not counting punts/penalties) and ‘furd 52. Thankfully Shaw gives everyone plenty of time to scan their cell-phone screen and catch up with FB (facebook).

Number of plays in that game was remarkably low. Almost a one-off. The trees knew K-State was gong to run the ball, and the Trees still couldn’t stop the run. Hopefully we can get some rhythm going on the run game. My understanding is that is what O-linemen live for, the ability to open holes on play after play, getting 4 and 5 yards, and the occasional burst of big yards, chewing up the clock and moving downfield, wearing the D out…
