Discuss The USC-Stanford Game

Remember last year I continually wrote USC would be worse this season?

But Mike Bohn wanted to talk about the support staff being increased.

USC got pushed around the field despite a new strength coach.

The media sucks up to Todd Orlando but USC has not had a sack in two games.

Kedon Slovis has not improved and might be worse.

And there is no leadership, as usual.

    1. As I correctly predicted- David Shaw out- coached the Moron. I’m laughing so hard my side hurts. I received 17 points and looking forward for my new tricycle. Oregon lost 5 defenders off their starting unit
When will you realize that history repeats itself., wasting your time, energy & money. You can no longer have an inkling that usc football will be anything while the current regime is in place. I’m reminded of past transgressions that constantly are overlooked by fans who will always be left dangling by an athletic department that has no integrity whatsoever. I’m hoping that the Cougars put the final dagger in this long-standing nightmare. I

    2. Helton needed to be fired long ago, most fans knew where this trainwreck was headed years ago.

And you don’t hire anyone from his staff as the interim because they’re all just as incompetent, if not more so, than he is.

Reaching out to Chris Petersen and offering him the job would be the smart thing to do. If he accepts, he can put a makeshift staff together pretty quick to finish out the year, even if it’s made up of some former players. What’s needed right now is a change in style, scheme and some damn discipline.

No one is being held accountable, not any of the players or the coaching staff, it’s a free for all of incompetence.

In no way should Graham Harrell or Todd Orlando be named interim, either of them will just compound the problem.

Chris Petersen would be the best option for the job, the team needs a total facelift with every position being re-evaluated, no player being entitled or guaranteed a starting job.

      1. The announcement of Clay’s firing should happen today, but this team will not get any better as long as Harrell is involved. I would be for firing both of them at the same time.

Bohn also needs to stop being polite when he cans Clay and simply say that the performance is unacceptable and that USC has higher standards. He should not make any statement about Clay’s service to USC, since we all know that Clay was always looking out for the best interests of Clay.

But there will be no improvement in the team until Harrell is fired. Harrell is the main problem here. His air raid offense was unmasked as incompetent and now his attempts to tweak it and make it better are also failing. GH is simply an amateur, playing against masters. GH needs to coach under a real HC for about 5 years to earn the experience he needs to be an OC at a program like USC. But honestly, would you want to hire GH as an OC given that he is inflexible and calls his head coach a moron in front of players?

    3. Let’s go get Luke Fickell as Cincinnati. Cincy in the Top 7 without the elite recruting classes that USC can get. The Helton experiment is done and the Harrell offense is a joke without super elite wide receivers. Losing Pittman, Vaughs and St. Brown just made his offense mediocre.

Fickell might be fine for Cincinnati and the American conference, but he can’t hang with the big boys.

Last thing USC needs right now is another clown from Cincinnati.

  2. If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times. Do not blame Clay Helton for the debacle that is currently USC Football, because he did not hire himself. The blame starts at the top with Nikias, Haden, Swann, Folt, and Bohn all singing off on this clown to run the program into the ground. Think about it, how many of us would turn down a job worth $4 million per year, even though we were not qualified for it?
It also doesn’t help that the city’s major newspaper, The L.A. Times, has a beat writer who is a Helton apologist, as well as a overall USC suck ass. The only other media type who calls USC on their bullshit, aside from Wolf, is Petros Papadakis. Say what you want about Papadakis being a blowhard, but he’s been right on the money when it comes to USC and the Athletics Department, when it comes to their overall incompetence. Like Wolf stated, the worst could be yet to come.

    1. I actually agree with you. Only I’m not so down on Folt and Bohn as you are. My problem with Folt is that is that I think they could had hired Meyer in a heartbeat if Folt wasn’t so politically correct. I think that he wanted the job. But Nakias, Haden and Swann did immeasureable damage to this program.

      Liked by 2 people

      1. You totally contradict yourself with that statement. Who the hell is running the university and the Athletic Department? Folt and Bohn. They’re the runs that are letting this bullshit happen. They had a chance to hire Urban Meyer and they passed. They had a chance to hire Bob Stoops, and they didn’t want to spend the money for the salaries of the assistant coaches that Stoops wanted. So don’t tell me that Folt and Bohn are not responsible. This is what happens when you hire a Birkenstock wearing, granola eating, SJW, flaming ibtard from UCSB.

  4. I’m re-doing my predictions. I predicted that SC would finish 3rd in the Pac-12 South. I no longer think that they will finish that high…….Maybe 4th or 5th. They have 10 games left and the only games that will be cupcakes are Washington State and Arizona. Possibly Cal but Cal is not that bad. The other seven games are good teams. Clay Heltons record against good teams has not been good. I can’t possibly see them finishing better than 8-4. A better prediction would be 7-5. They have creampuff next week but the next 4 games after that are good teams(including Oregon State). If SC is going to fire this guy they should probably think about doing it in the next couple of weeks. Let the rest of the country know early on that one of the best coaching jobs in the country is available.

  5. Mike Bohn- were you at the game selling cars tonight in your red jacket, or did you actually watch the game this time with your mouth closed. I have watched several of your press conferences, and I have noticed words come out of your mouth very quickly almost like they were pre-recorded which tells me their is not alot of thought put into some your statements. Your sales pitch for the 2021 USC football season has failed. Your belief all the new assistants and support staff would turn the program around is obviously not working.

If I were you I would make a coaching change now rather than wait until the end of the season because if you don’t get it done you too might be gone also.

USC travels to Pullman next week to face WSU. I have been around athletics a long time, and it appears Clay Helton has lost his team based on some of the things that happened tonight. Helton, has already lost the fans, and now the players so it is time to make your move NOW.

    1. Yes, Helton has definitely lost the team. It’s obvious they have zero respect for the guy. In fact, I think they hate him. Wouldn’t you? Look at the effort they put in. Reality doesn’t lie. BUT…. I wouldn’t make a coaching change right now for the simple reason we wouldn’t get anybody any good at this juncture. Let Helton limp along and fire him at the end of the season. Maybe somebody really good will be available. Maybe. We’re probably fucked, though. Our ticket was going with Meyer. Now we’re likely gonna have to eat it for a few more seasons.

  7. Our defensive and offensive lines look like a high school team. Not once did we get to the Stanford rookie QB which is a bad sign just in itself. Stanford played well, but no more than a average young team. A good team would have shaken that rookie qb up with some sacks.

Clay really wanted to score more points to save his job at the end rather than putting the subs in to start the 3rd quarter. He knows his time at USC is near I see it in his face, and sadly so do the players.

Graham Harrell should be dismised — The Air Raid is not working, and sadly he can’t make adjustments because all he knows is the air raid.
The air raid offense is a gimmick, and won’t work in the red zone.

My advise to all TROJAN fans is don’t go to the games until a new coach is hired.

  10. It is better to fire Helton NOW——–the longer you wait the longer it is going to take to rebuild the program, and many of our recruits see a change coming and will back off on their committments rather than wait.. The worse part of waiting is UCLA will have a good season this year, and will pick up many of the top local recruits.

USC should make the decision, and re-assign Helton into a marketing or fund raising positing within the athletic department until his contract runs out.

USC waited too long in the past in firing Tollner, and Hackett, and if you look at the history UCLA really benefited in recruiting while the USC program was down.

Bob Stoops is available——he is a strong defensive and power running game head coach. He is a big enough name to bring in national recruits Luke Fickell is not. Our defensive back coach should be named the interim coach not Eddie Haskell (Graham Harrell)

I see WSU giving USC a good game on Saturday. The USC players have lost confidence in their coach, and with all the rumors that will be flying this week don’t be surprised if the team is flat especially in Pullman.

Instead, he promised that by the end of the season this team will be fighting for a championship. If I were there I would have asked him to please define what he thinks is a championship season at USC.

So many people say what a great guy Clay Helton is. My personal opinion is he is as phony as they come just ask the many assistants coaches he has fired to save his job. Both Helton, and BOHN should be selling used cars over at Felix Chevrolet.

At some point Helton must admit that he and the entire coaching staff have failed in putting a good product out that is acceptable to USC standards.

We must all come to the reality that Kendon Slovis, Drake London and Drake Jackson are overrated players, and sadly this team depends on all 3 to win games without utilizing the other skilled players on the team.

The fact that he was hired in the first place and that he has been allowed to be the HC until now(his 7th year) is a testimony to the incompetence of the USC Board of Bustees. It means the players didn’t want to win as much as Stanford. Success is where preparation meets opportunity. They apparently were not prepared and worse could not pull off a second effort to catch catchable passes. That is on the head coach.

They announce that kicker Parker Lewis is suspended for the next game for his lack of self control and discipline in tackling a runner. Or players that fail in carrying out details of plays are benched. Actions, not words. The coaches have to instill that the team, including coaches, are judged by their actions more than mere words and posturing.

Well said – high caliber coaches, like high caliber people in any endeavor, take full responsibility and are accountable…and they rarely have to address because they’ve done all of the hard work in advance to establish culture/work ethic…Helton is apparently truly so desperate and/or stupid that he thinks the fans have no memory (just like politicians – from all points on the spectrum, so no political commentary please); unfortunately for him, he’s at a school that, at least heretofore, has a very long memory…and fairly recent memory of what right looks like…if a person is roughly 30 years or older – a whole bunch of whom at least used to be ticket buyers – they recall all too well exactly what right looks like…and it aint this.

What a wonderful world it could be if he were so inclined, but we both have observed over the past several years that he has not one shred of integrity (the irony, given the arguments made for retaining him by the rotating clowns) and will do nothing more than make excuses and point fingers until shown the door…and he will have to be shown the door, he will not leave of his own volition…and as I have asked in the past, is it just because he’s classless and unethical? or is he really so stupid and/or deluded? I’ve concluded its the former…but regardless, until clowns are replaced by competent, and the competent immediately remove Helton and all associated with the football program, turning it over to a coach befitting the position, nothing will change. Nothing.

    2. Fox, during the late game blowout, zoomed in on Sam Cunningham’s distraught wife braced by her children. Christ, that vignette was difficult to witness.

True, I was happy SUCC succ’ed, but it might have been nice to have Ms. Cunningham smiling in loving remembrance of Sam “Bam.”

  22. Okay here’s some of what I have read in the media. Everyone from the media to the cheerleaders are calling for Helton to be fired.
“ Clay Helton is making Paul Hackett look like Bear Bryant”
“Televised media disrespected the Trojans in its own backyard by preempting the entire first half for two innings of baseball.”
“Mike Bohn must own stock in noise canceling earphones. He hasn’t heard the sound of the angry mob, and isn’t expected to hold any meetings on the tarmac.”

      1. Herbie is too busy with spin control on his arsenal loser buddy Suckisian … Texas fans do not mess around they will toss that fat lazy dope out after the Okie blowout

Pro tip to AD’s … Kiffy and Suck are colossal frauds

      2. Now this hypocritical gasbag wants off the circus ride and to hang out with those of us who were calling for this three years ago…that just leaves Herbie Ducksinhisbuckeyes to sanctimoniously call for a change. Unless he can get Folt to do an appearance, and then I’m sure he would lapdog up to her for at least a couple of weeks…

    1. Just read an article in the LA Times that is pretty much damning Helton comparing him to a bumbling TV character. Unfortunately the TV character is on script.
Also saw a mention of the number of high snaps in the second half that have people if Helton has a new love interest now that Toa is no longer around.

      1. High snaps, late hits, holds, targeting, offensive interference, bobbled handoffs, tipped balls that should have been caught —- the signs of a well oiled machine…

      2. Oscar de La Hoya is trying to sign Clay up for an 8 rounder with Evander Holyfield while they’re both still bankable. When Evander was contacted and told he’d have a chance to avenge his loss last night, he replied “Somebody named Evander Holyfield fought last night? That’s my name too!” [Clay said he’ll be ready to go as soon as his new trainers get him into tip top condition]!

      3. In the earliest versions of Tristan and Isolde there was a Tristan The Brave and a Tristan The Dwarf. Also an Isolde the Fair and an Isolde The Less Fair. I always thought that was funny until Clay Helton and Carol Folt came along.

      4. Excellent – I’m not as up on Billy Boy, but suspect there’s some allusion to how this shrew has been tamed that a smarter person might invoke with some degree of humor…and isn’t it needed?…closest I can think of are the early scenes from The Stand involving Tom Cullen riding around on a kid’s scooter saying “M-O-O-N, laws yes…everyone knows that spells [Clay is a buffoon]…laws yes…”

  23. There was a shot of the fat ass smiling in a huddle in the 4th quarter as the team was being clobbered, whereas Saban is furious at his coaches and players even when he has a huge lead. Bonehead and Falt did not put the fat bastard here so they can’t be blamed for that but if they continue to let him put the Uni down the drain then it is their full responsibility.

  24. The game ball goes to Mike Bohn- who forced Helton to fire all his assistants, expanded his marketing and support staff for the athletic program, and then told us all before the season we have now formed a strong foundation for a championship football program.

Mr. Bohn did we need to fire you also along with Helton. Your new formula for success is NOT WORKING just like it didn’t at Idaho, Colorado, and at Kansas where you played for another losing program.

The expectations are very high at USC. The program is falling apart, the fans are disgusted it is time to make an immediate change with your football coach or move on to another job perhaps selling used cars or politics.

  25. I am a rah rah guy, unapologetically. I don’t have to root for a winner to be a fan, I am lifelong Raider fan. But I do have to at least see some engagement from those in charge to know that they care as much as I do. Buyout is no longer an excuse. I have decided that my level of interest will be directly proportional to how they respond to being a marginal at best football program. No tickets, no merchandise, and certainly no donations to TAF. I held out as long as I could. My uncle Chuck who played at USC and took me to my first game when I was 7 would be disappointed that I am bailing until it’s fixed, or maybe he would be doing the same.

  26. This comment from Clay says it all about him:

“I look forward to seeing the production of our team through an entire season, and look forward to seeing where we add up at the entirety of the season.”

No leader would say this. Implicitly begging to keep his job. No confidence in the team. No statement of how things would change. Carefully crafted pablum as he walks on eggshells.

The fact that he wasn’t fired after the Holiday Bowl embarrassment (49-25) where Slovis practically had his arm torn off, tells us how USC views the football team. As an afterthought.

    1. I admit that happenstance usually leads to a SUCC TD. But so what, SUCC was bent over in the second half 42 – 13. No last second bozo FB heroics in the game script.

  29. MG I thought you did research on Stanford and there was no way USC could lose?? I know better than to listen to anything that comes out of that dumb ass mouth of yours but the minions must be so disappointed in your research abilities 😂😂😂😂. Pretty much explains you as an attorney as well 😂😂😂. You are such a fucking loser!!!

  31. No need to worry everyone. I’ll be here to take over for the next 3yrs when Helton gets the axe. Then we can really open up my air raid offense. Can’t wait!

  32. The biggest problem now is that neither Todd Orlando nor Graham Harrell can be trusted to be the interim head coach. I guess TO is the one that can at least rally the spirits and desire to play.

If Helton is fired, the team might lose, but at least it will stop the boos from the stands. Fans might come to support the team, win or lose. Right now, the fans cant help but boo Helton off the field.

I am waiting for the announcement. Needs to happen by tomorrow at the latest. Even Plaschke wrote that it needs to happen now.

  33. Mr. Bohn
To a man, the football team has spoken non-verbally by their game behavior that Coach Helton has lost them as far as being head coach especially in tough games. Not one player can be singled out as beating their opponent in the Stanford game. You already know a football game at that level is close to going to war. For the player’s sake, I hope you intervene without delay in what has been long-standing pattern and cultural problem with coach Helton.

      1. But only after years of being among those who gleefully argued for Helton’s retention to further destroy the program…right along with Herbstreit and many others whose only apparent motivation was “Please don’t let 2002-08 USC resurrect itself”…

  34. Why do I think Saban is chomping at the bit to hire Clay Helton after he’s fired? He seems like a lost cause and Saban wants to show him how simple it is instill discipline. First thing is — They’re not your friends and your not a day care.
