The big news in the Pac-12 this morning is Servite wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan flipping his commitment from Oregon to Arizona.
- As for USC, Lincoln Riley wants to overhaul as many as 35 spots on the roster. Riley said he did a lot evaluation during the practices before the Cal game.
Those must have been really unimpressive practices.
- Did you see Rep. Rep. Bill Pascrell of New Jersey wrote a letter to USC president Carol Folt and LSU President William F. Tate IV asking to explain the salaries paid football coaches.
“Why should the Federal government subsidize the university’s athletics programs and escalating coaches’ salaries and other non-cash benefits?” Pascrell wrote.
It should be noted most college athletic depts. are set up as non-profit organizations, which protects revenue from taxation.
USC issued the following statement to USA TODAY: “We have just received the letter, and we look forward to interacting with Rep. Pascrell and other members of Congress to provide greater understanding of the way revenue-generating sports like football directly support and fund virtually all other sports — including women’s sports and Olympic sports — as well as hundreds of athletic scholarships each year.”
5 star flipping going to ‘zona…nuts. But maybe this indicates that Slovis will be going to ‘zona?
The NJ congress guy is out to lunch just about as much as whoever told Zuckerberg during a Congressional hearing a few years ago that by not charging its users, Facebook’s business model made no sense.
Hey, those athletic salaries get taxed as personal income. And concessions at the stadium get taxed. And parking gets taxed. And the broadcast revenue net of costs gets taxed.
I proposed this guy get recalled and replaced with Ed G and the missus.

Ever notice that Zuckerberg looks like a total zero ? Every time I see that guy at one of these silly Congressional hearings, he looks like a guy on the max dose of Lithium, no personality, nothing, almost as blank as the Twitter guy who just left.
And has anything destroyed people more than social media ?

100%. Zuckerberg is tough to stomach, combo of being empty, smugness, the whole “Hey, I went to Harvard and invented Facebook” schtick gets old after about 1 minute. Social media sucks away users brain cells. China is waiting patiently, smiling, while the US becomes dopier every minute.

Hey guys —My family lived through the Second World War in Italy. They watched Mussolini take over the courts, the police and the press. And they remember reading in the Official Italian newspaper Facista Urbana that when someone told Mussolini, “the Italian people are turning against you!” he replied, “The People are a second rate power.”
This is the way our 2021 Dems AND Repubs (who work for China now) feel about voters.

I guess the NJ congressman hasn’t heard of Title IX…
As an old BOOMER, it’s been fun watching women’s sports blossom in the TITLE IX era. All fueled by Men’s CFB/ESPN/FOX money (and mens hoops).
Of all the USC sporting events I’ve watched in person, probably my favorite was at the Galen in 2013 (my first time) when the #2 USC women’s Volley team swept the #7 Stanford team. We were courtside, and the place was ROCKING!
Yes, ed G would be great for NJ congress. I’d listen to him filibuster for hours.

I just read your post….and I’m wondering: Why didn’t Carol Folt’s reply sound more like your reply, 67 [and make no mistake about it –these are “Carol Words”, not amorphous “University Words”]? Why, instead, did Carol choose to talk blather-crap again— “I look forward to interacting with you to provide greater understanding”???

Lawyers often write in the same mumbo-jumbo way, Mike,
‘lawyer-speak’ I believe it is called.
I work in the Chinese community in L.A. where English is often a second language, and so I have learned to speak and write simply, clearly and concisely so I will be understood.
So instead of hiding where SC stands on this issue by using nebulous and ambiguous words, why could not have Folt said more directly that the university disagrees with the congressman’s assessment, and if he desires to discuss it further, SC will be available for a meeting.
I guess that is asking too much of the Prez.

If you look at McMillan’s profile, he’s big but not fast, he dominated high school with his height but will that translate over to college ? Seems like an overrated kid to me

A complete loser/grifter/con artist/sycophant.
FWIW, I recall a former assistant saying how hard it was to recruit highly ranked players when he was at USC, walking into the kid’s house to meet the kid and the family with the Village Idiot, after Saban and Swinney and Riley had already been there. So they pretty much stopped trying and went down market to 3 star guys.

Two words Pussells: Donor Money 💰.
Why does he give a green turd what someone pays their employees?
Government needs to but out of entertainment.
In the state in which I reside, the word tax is the most common used government word. They would tax us by the letter if they read our posts. The constitution never mentions the right of the government to tax the citizens but my governor has never met a tax he doesn’t intend to enrich himself through.
Ooops sorry all of the Facebook talk I thought I was on my FB page. 😆

I’m not surprised at how well Arizona’s been recruiting, because they’ve always been above the middle of the pack in the PAC 12 conference. But the last three coaches, Stoops, Rodriguez, and Sumlin were horrible hires, and they ran the program into the ground.

Not sure why T-mac hates USC so much.
Riley’s approach to the roster is the right one. I dont think he will take players that are very talented, but are selfish and dont work hard. I have no idea why T-mac is so pissed off at USC and even Riley, or if Riley even wanted him.
Hope we dont lose Choice to Texas, but more important for us to get the o-line coach and I think he is going to be a good one.
When you look at 2023, USC really has things set up for a great recruiting class. There are at least 5 five star targets that are West Coast based that we are the logical choice for. It might be smart for us to push for some early commitments from five star athletes, so we can get the top recruiting position early. It might even help to land some remaining 2022 recruits if they see a bright future.

This guy must be a representative from Alabama. Why hasn’t he written U of A about how much they pay their coaches. Anyhow, one reason to pay the coaches that much is because in power 5 football, if you win you get more money back in return. Power 5 football teams always make money…….a lot more money than they spent so you can use the extra money on the other sports and even academic programs. So it’s a good investment in the university. This guy is just another far left dem who would rather see the money go to far left professors who are pushing 50-100 genders, Critical Race Theory, transgenderism, socialism and every evil you can think of.

As far as L.R. is concerned, I like what he is doing. He’s starting from scratch. He’s happy to have only 7 players recruited but they are his type of players. Chris Petersen used to recruit what he used to call OTOGS(Our Type Of Guys). He would pass up a lot of 3,4 and 5 stars because they didn’t fit his qualifications. I imagine that there are probably a lot of 4 stars that L.R. hasn’t gone after. He’s also gotten rid of a lot of USC players. They should have a good team next year because the schedule is easy but it’s going to take at least a year to rebuild. The whole culture has to be changed. Jim Harbaugh didn’t have a winning season at Stanford until his 3rd year(8-5). His 4th year he was 12-1. It shouldn’t take that long at SC with the transfer portal(which Harbaugh didn’t have) and the rich SoCal recruiting market(which Harbaugh also didn’t have).

When it comes to a private enterprise (like a private university) and the salaries paid to the employees of said private institution — its none of Uncle Sam’s damn business.
Congressman Pascrell, your fiscal prudence as evidenced by taking exception to Lincoln Riley’s salary as the USC football coach is comical given that you and the Federal Government just raised the nation’s debt ceiling by $2.5 trillion — because you’re so fiscally prudent!

Brad –Reading between the lines here: Riley has lost his first choices for O-Line coach (the guy from Oklahoma) and Running Backs coach (the guy from Georgia Tech)—- that can only mean ONE thing –USC is offering position coaches such shit money they can be easily lured away by any school willing to pay more.
Another Bad Sign.
One more obstacle Lincoln has to deal with.
One more hindrance to recruiting.
Bohn is such a fucking weakling –he should be getting Lincoln all the $$ he needs to get our program outta the toilet —but apparently Folt is sitting on him (again)…..
