Brenden Rice Evaluation

I spoke to a Pac-12 head coach today who faced Colorado wide receiver Brenden Rice.

“That dude is good. NFL good. That dude can ball. They got a good one,” the coach said. “He’s long. He can run. He’s got a nice catch radius.”

Maybe USC will win games, 84-83, next season.

  1. Hey, what do you know, Lincoln Riley and staff can actually identify and recruit quality players! Who would have thunk that?

Fingers crossed, more to come, including the areas of greatest need.

      1. Owns, we have holes on the line. UCLA has problems from leadership to long-term planning, to landing difference making recruits, and basically finding a way to matter on Saturday, because they just don’t.

  2. Looks to me like Lincoln Riley is making sure he has plenty of NFL type receivers and backs to compliment the talents of Caleb Williams. I am sure he has filed his admission paperwork, and working out a few more details before he makes an official announcement. If the offensive line or transmission of the offense breaks down the race care will not function properly so Riley still has alot of work to do in the portal.

      1. Why would anyone ask a team that has had ONE winning season the past SIX years?!

That’s the kind of ridiculous spinning we’ll hear from Sleepy, Poop-In-My-Pants, Fall-On-My-Face, I’ll-Defeat-the-Virus/There-Is-No-Federal-Solution Joe on Wednesday night!!

  3. I prefer a great Defense any day, but I’ll take a high-scoring Offense for now. Win and they will come! The more wins we get will payoff big time when it comes to recruiting. Recruits want to play for a winning team so do whatever it takes now to get those victories.

  4. And the Riley CFB playoff question answer is:

“Riley, without a doubt, had some very good Oklahoma teams, but they were far from the greatest Sooner teams of all-time. Unfortunately, what Riley’s OU teams may most be remembered for, despite all the individual and team accomplishments, is losing in the opening round three consecutive years in the College Football Playoff.” ~ Fanside

    Oh well Rah-Rah’s.

      1. You mean it take one completely brainless mofo. One NC EVER and that was almost SEVENTY YEARS AGO!!!

That is the same level of stupidity as those still trying to claim Biden is doing a fine job.

    1. So Cal has just provided the perfect analogy to the situation USC finds itself in w/ Riley. Donald Trump was the Clay Helton of Presidents – and that can’t be disputed. And Biden having to instantly fix 4 years of Trump doing stupid shit is Lincoln Riley. As I’ve said if Riley can get them to 6-6 w/ the easy schedule that’s a real win. Riley’s gotta build USC back better b/c Clay Helton lived in fantasyland just like Trump did.

This comments deserves all the likes and the cheers asking for a curtain call.

  5. Tommyd you are exactly right. Lincoln made a commitment to Williams that he would significantly upgrade the receiving room which is exactly what he has done by bringing in Mario Williams, Bynum and now Brenden Rice. Next will be signing the Oregon RB which will give USC not only the most explosive offense in the PAC 12 but one of the top offenses in the country. This will set USC for a major turn around Year 11-2 with a major bowl victory. This will set up the Trojans to compete for a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP in year 2 of the Riley era. It will also set USC up for the top 2023 recruiting class. The “sleeping giant” is awake SEC. When you combine the tradition, the weather, the new world of NIL, and Lincoln Riley, USC will soon regain its rightful place at the top of the college football world!!!! When USC is USC, we dominate the world of college football so help me Howard Jones, John McKay, John Robinson and Pete Carroll.

    1. Hold on there. Yes, it will be a good offense, but we might need an offensive line player or two before it really gets on track. I think Henson can coach up the current players, but there is probably quite alot of dead wood in the players that were recruited in the past couple years for the o-line.

What is this craziness I hear about the NCAA trying to limit full contact in Spring practice? If that is the case, it might be more difficult to coach up players, so we might need even more transfers who have plenty of previous contact experience.

If the NCAA continues on this road, maybe football will be a 7 on 7 sport in the future and LR is the perfect coach for that.

      1. Bright Side:
USC players weren’t allowed to touch each other during practices under Helton. So the new NCAA rules will represent a step up for us. Now, at least, nobody in the country will know how to tackle…

  6. Why is all this Hip Hip Hooray for ol’ SC sound so familiar?

Oh yeah, it was when Troy brought in the Air-Raid Hot Shot a few years back, and Trojans were all giddy and giggly.

Or the beginning of the 2021 season most SC fans were pretty optimistic it would be a good year.

I am not big on predictions, especially football where an injury to one or two key players can decimate a team, so I will save my evaluations until September 2022.

    1. We’re giddy because the Helton Era was like like the guy stranded in the desert dying of thirst who gets handed a sliver of ice. Best drink he ever had. My Prediction is that Riley will get SC to the level of Oklahoma. But then we’ll need someone else to get it to the level of McKay & Carroll.

    2. Oh no we weren’t! This everybody knew any team or program led by Clay Helton would not in fact be “pretty good.” This everybody also doesn’t think they’re going to all that great next year. They should be happy with the schedule they’ve been given. 6-6 seems doable.

  7. Jerry Rice had a very strong work ethic. He came from tiny Mississippi Valley State and made himself into the best WR in the NFL at that time. They say the apple doesn’t fall from the tree.

    1. I posted earlier that Brendan Rice did not have much production at COlorado. Hoping that the poor production was from lousy coaching, COVID issues in 2020, and injury in 2021, and lousy QB skills at CU.

I, for one, would love to see Jerry Rice on the sidelines at the Coliseum cheering on his son who is having a banner year for the Trojans.
This is USC’s heritage. The last decade of decadence* with Helton et al cannot destroy this heritage.

*with apologies to one of my favorite bands of all time, the Crue.

      1. Yeah would love to see Jerry Rice associated with USC football. USC Decade of decadence for all the wrong reasons. Motley Crue … in a good way. Lincoln Riley is Dr Feelgood✌️

  8. OWNS- I THINK YOU ARE HEADED IN THE WRONG DIRECTION WITH LINCOLN RILEY LOSING IN THE 1ST ROUND OF THE PLAYOFFS 3 TIMES.

Last time I checked UCLA hasn’t even been to a major bowl game in over 20 years nor won even a Pac 12 Conference-South title in a very weak conference.

I think making it to the playoffs is much better than rooting for a team that will never make the playoffs. Red Saunders, Tommy Prothro, and Terry Donahue are no longer with us, and no question the last twenty years has made UCLA a non-factor in football.

Stick with basketball- the Midget has given UCLA a chance to return as a huge factor in college basketball once again.

      1. Jerry Quarry won a few fights and I would not have wanted to step in a ring with him. He also had a girl to die for. I made a play for her, not knowing at the time she was Quarry’s girl. Sometimes you win by losing.

      2. Not that Owns’ comparison makes any sense ….but for the record —Jerry was a great fighter when he fought guys his size. Watch his fights with Floyd Patterson and Thad Spencer.
Btw, one of my boxing buddies, Jeff Villagran, went to Jerry’s gym in Los Angeles and sparred with Jerry for the Loyola school paper. He even landed some nice right hands before Jerry pinned him to the ropes with body shots (those right hooks to the body always work cuz you’re protecting your head on the ropes and your hands are high).

    1. Watch his last interview. It’s fairly heartbreaking. He talks pretty lucidly about not being mean enough to be a great fighter …and how much he loved his fans.

  10. OWNS- DON’T GET ME WRONG WE ALL ADMIRE YOU HERE ON THE USC SITE. IT’S HARD TO HAVE HOPE WHEN YOU ARE A UCLA FOOTBALL FAN, BUT I GIVE YOU ALOT OF CREDIT FOR STILL BELIEVING IN YOUR TEAM WHEN ALOT OF OTHER BRUIN FANS HAVE GIVEN UP AS SHOWN BY THE ATTENDANCE ON SATURDAYS AT THE ROSE BOWL.

YOUR BASKETBALL TEAM HAS ALOT OF POTENTIAL THIS YEAR TO RETURN UCLA BACK TO GLORY IN BASKETBALL. KEEP THE FAITH IN UCLA FOOTBALL NOT MANY IN WESTWOOD HAVE THE SAME HOPE YOU DO.

  11. USC FOOTBALL IS GOING TO LOOK THE NFL HALL OF FAME AT THE RECEIVER POSITION IN 2023 – WITH CLIFF BRANCH’S NEPHEW COMING IN AND NOW BRENDEN RICE. BOTH RECEIVERS ARE SPEED BURNERS…………………….AND VERY TALENTED.

WHO KNOWS MAYBE JOE MONTANA HAS A YEAR OF ELGIBILITY LEFT BECAUSE BOTH RECEIVERS ARE 1ST ROUND DRAFT PICKS AT SOME POINT.

NO QUESTION USC WILL HAVE AN EXPLOSIVE OFFENSIVE IN 2022, BUT IT WILL PROBABLY TAKE ANOTHER YEAR TO REBUILD THE DEFENSE SO LOOK OUT FOR THE TROJANS IN 2023 ON THE NATIONAL LEVEL NOT JUST IN THE PAC 12 in the Clay Helton era.

  12. Wow…watching film of Brenden Rice is unbelievable. This guy is a tremendous athlete already if he develops he will be a 1st round pick.
Great speed, size, and good hands. If given the opportunity we will be talking about him as a star rather than the fact he is the son of Jerry Rice.
