Morning Buzz: Could We See A USC-UCLA Summer Scrimmage?

Could we see a USC-UCLA football scrimmage this fall?

The Mid-American Conference has proposed to the NCAA that would allow joint practices/exhibitions between colleges. It’s no different than the Rams-Chargers holding a practice before the season. It would also relieve the monotony of training camp and give teams a chance to see where they stand against outside competition.

Imagine if there was a USC-UCLA scrimmage a week before the season started? It would make things a lot more interesting.

  • Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, was on a tour of USC on Tuesday with his girl friend (Lauren Sanchez) and daughter.

Bezos blended in because there were a higher-than-usual number of parent-student tour groups on campus Tuesday.

If Max Nikias were still president, he probably would have put Bezos on the Board of Trustees already.

      Save SC-sucla for once a year, much like Christmas (although when those two get together it is more like Halloween)

  3. Like it. The players would like it and great way to promote rivalry and LA sports market. Unlike about every other P5 school, virtually no travel involved.

    2. A “USC-UCLA Spring Game” has so much potential. Start out with some one-on-one drills including the Oklahoma Board Drill. Then a 60-90 minute scrimmage; 1’s vs 2’s and QB’s red-jerseyed. Then intermission followed by 7-on-7, 1’s vs 1’s. The finale will be a live concert with/without fireworks show. Totally unique event. Phone says campuses 14 miles apart … the only one closer is Duke-UNC (11) and nobody cares about them football-wise. Helps UCLA more directly than it does USC, but having a stronger UCLA helps USC and Pac12.

  6. Is Bezos looking to buy a building at SC? If Owns were here and the above scenario happened he’d call the new building Bezos Bozos building.
    I sure hope USC has closed their clown college for the immediate future.

    1. Why waste time doing a practice with ucla. We could do like Alabama and most of the SEC and bring in a cupcake like Redlands or Cal Poly. Even more fun do one with UNLV, home and home, 4 hour bus ride, and have a weekend in Vegas. Lots of other schools around besides ucla and nobody wants to go to Westweird anyway.

    1. SEC is way to influential, but it is due to the failure of the ncaa to be what it was designed to be, the governing body of collegiate sports. If the ncaa cannot work they should disband it, come up with a workable version even if it includes a czar to run the show. The fact that the SEC thinks they are bigger than the sport of football itself will be their downfall.

        And yes Tony Gonzales is 6’6″.

        And yes, biden still has a cognitive disorder. And yes shortly after the midterms, he will be impeached.
        Then all hell breaks out and pelosi will retire to her new gated Florida home. She won’t move back to SF because the street she lives on is public and can’t be gated. Such a shame.

    Interesting fact, Laura Sanchez and Tony Gonzalez had a son together. He went to Loyola High and I think he is at Colorado now. He started. So at one game you have Jeff Bezos, Laura Sanchez, and Tony Gonzalez at the same game. Laura sat with Bezos on the Loyola side and Tony stood on the sidelines. So the quesiton is, who’s autograph would you want? Gonzlaez for being a NFL Hall of Famer or Bezos, who started Amazon? BTW, Gonzalez is a nice guy and is in great shape. Spoke to him a few times

  20. Does Bezos need to donate a building to get his daughter in? Hopefully she is a really bad student and can only get in with the building donation, or something bigger.
