Pete Carroll said this today at the NFL Combine about his Seattle Seahawks defense.
“We’ve been a little bit arrogant over the years (with) the way we do it. … It’s not that time (anymore).”
Hail Caesar! (Who remembers that nickname?)
- Drake London said today he is 85 percent recovered from his broken ankle. He is not working out at the NFL Combine but will participate in USC’s Pro Day.
- USC reserve QB Mo Hasan said he has ruptured his right Achilles’ tendon. That leaves USC with two scholarship quarterbacks.
- The USC-UCLA game at Pauley Pavilion on Saturday is sold out.
- The sycophancy of Colin Cowherd to USC since Lincoln Riley was hired has been insufferable.

I remember Caesar and how you used to bag on him when he was here and then when he left and had success at Seattle you were praising him and now that he is losing again, it’s back to bagging on him.

Sychophancy or disparagement? What will it be?
Most sports fans are somewhere in the middle. Where is Scott?

Sycophancy: “Kiss up, Kick down.”
Easiest explanation.
I think there may be a personality disorder relating to sycophancy in the
DSM 5 (latest version?)

Let’s put it this way, John, I don’t expect Scott to down 3 glasses of white wine & do a 45 second close-up video of his private dreams [while looking straight into the camera like Jack Nicholson from The Shining]..

What had he written in The Shining over the course of a summer, “Jack is a good boy, Jack is a good boy,” a 1000 page “novel”.
Now that was scary!

I do. I’ve been reading this blog (or it’s various incarnations) for nearly 20 years. Great nickname (after his middle initial–Peter C. Carroll). It shows the obvious admiration Scott has for Pete–and that Pete also had complete control of the program, even to his own detriment. (See Norm Chow.)
In a completely ironic twist, the actual C in Peter C. Carroll stands for… wait for it… “Clay.” JUST… WOW.

I thought Scott Wolf’s reference to Pete Carroll as Caesar was meant in part as a good-natured put-down of fans and people within USC who saw Carroll as something akin to “emperor-like” who did no wrong. Pete Carroll did great things at USC, but should’ve easily won two more National Championships.

He should never had gotten rid of Norm Chow. He never won another NC after he dumped Chow. Chow was the ideal assistant. He was the best in the business in his field and he didn’t really have a desire to move on into a head coaching job. It doesn’t seem that PC could ever work with a guy just on a business relationship. All of his people had to be the “rah, rah” types(which Chow wasn’t) and they all had to be his good buddies. As a result, even though he had a great coaching staff at the start, when people moved on, he replaced them with assistants who were at SC rather than going out and hiring great assistants. Over the years his coaching staff declined.

Charles,
I took Cesear as him having complete control over all aspects of USC Football, his personal life with SC, and his business persona as an employee of USC. I thought that no one could tell him what to do from SC

Charles,
The team that crushed Iowa in the Orange Bowl (and all their bad ass LBs – think that was an SI cover?) would have won an Natty if there would’ve been a 4 team playoff. That team was rolling!

Do you realize that people make fun of your obsession with all things negative about USC. Try to, at least, be balanced. You are making a fool of yourself.

Maybe YOU have issue with it, but most of us that want truth over rah-rah fluff news don’t mind it.
Stick to ordaining women (against Paul’s admonishments and command) at your Laodicean lukewarm church, Ken. USC football is NONE of your business.

Hi Nasir I. M.
I was out getting a new phone after putting my old one through the washing machine. [The day has been kinda going downhill from there]…
As far as Cowherd –I can tell you what I HOPE happens: Colin calls his podcast Inside USC Football. Scott sues. During discovery phase it’s found out that USC conspired with Colin to (1) damage Scott and (2) eliminate all negative coverage of USC football, the USC Athletic Department, USC’s President and whoever becomes Board Chair. The case goes all the way up the system to the U. S. Supreme Court —where a lower court ruling finding USC to have committed some form of horrible business tort—is affirmed. Scott and his lawyer [me] make obscene amounts of money.

Just watched the USC women’s basketball team in the Pac 12 tournament. Normally, watching women’s college basketball is somewhat entertaining, but not this USC team which is poorly coached, plays street ball, and the head coach lacks fire when compared to the other coaches in this Pac 12 tournament.
USC has 3 pretty good players….enough talent to be competitive, but the team looks poorly organized on offense and defense, and the players lacked fire which is a reflection of the coach.
It’s still early, but it appears at this stage USC made a hiring mistake with Coach Gottlieb who just lacks the fire to compete against these other fine teams and top coaches in the Pac 12. Let’s see what she does next year to be fair, but at this point she better be hitting the transfer portal quickly with an ultimatum win next year, or we will make a change. This is another example of overpaying for a head coach, and giving them long term contracts with too much job security. Thank you Mike Bohn! Lindsay Gottlieb I want to see some fire in your coaching style like the coaches at Arizona, and Stanford. Your team has some talent which was inherited from the previous coaching staff, but the team has looked very bad almost worse than last year, and we were paying that coach about half the money your making. Tonight you lost to UCLA for the 3rd time this year, and it looked to me you had no problem with that, and what’s worse neither did the players.

Writing is not a sport. It’s the stringing of related words together to form an opinion. Wolf is a pseudonym, used to build a persona of a hard hitting reporter. Often the words he strings together are cut and pasted, removed from the one passing college report he wrote at USC. He wasn’t pledged to a fraternity (or a sorority -we don’t judge) Often his vitriol is just to generate followers, but honestly he’s just a sad janitor at heritage hall, a washed up tennis player who learned early that Tennis isn’t a sport. Working where he does, occasionally handling towels to showering athletes, he has honed his investigation techniques to a fine point.
