Nice numbers. I am glad those admissions’ requirements were not so stringent back when I applied, or I would be scrubbing McDonald’s bathrooms today.
Oh, and another advantage of going to SC when dinosaurs roamed the earth– the cost was about $15,000 for 4-years. And you could buy a home in West Los Angeles for $5,000 (that today goes for $1.1 million)

The Valedictorian in my high school had one ‘B” and had I guess about a 3.91. But now the schools give you bonuses if you take core subjects, hence the emergence of the 4.00+
It is a little like a long shot in basketball worth only 2-points back in the day, and then it became worth 3-points. It was still the same shot, however, just arbitrarily worth more.

My grades were mediocre, but my SAT score was above average and as a very accomplished musician, I had already committed to playing in the band. So they let me in on something called the Freshman Access Program, doubt it exists anymore.
I entered school on probation. There were two ways to have that lifted: First semester at 3.5 or higher or a full year at 3.0 or higher. I said, OK, no problem. Got a 3.8 my first semester, got my probation lifted and was never on it again.

George Tirebiter,
Did you know that Chuck Conners also played basketball for the Celtics and he played for the Brooklyn Dodgers? I loved the Rifleman with his rifle and that ring handle. What is so funny is, in the movie, “Stagecoach”, with John Wayne, Wayne’s rifle had the same ring handle. I don’t know if that was a common thing for the rifle or not. Just an interesting tidbit.

The Rifleman’s rifle was bad ass. Most don’t know this, but it was modified so that the trigger did not need to be pulled. When the lever action completed the cycle, it fired automatically.
It was auctioned in 2016. Fetched $1.26M.
I do enjoy that very little of The Rifleman has to do with violence. It’s mostly about a single dad doing his best to raise his son on his own: Teaching him right from wrong, the value of hard work, respect, etc. All the things that are wrong with society today.

If any boys or girls are here on the blog————and can you imagine that—- they are getting almost as much of a sex education here than a kindergarten kid in Jersey——-we are just kidding around on the board. Most of us are virgins when it comes to sex or drugs. Maybe when you are getting over a cold and have a bad cough a few bottles of codeine cough medicine might be in order tho

I’d like to see the breakdown on how many kids are from Orange County and the Valley.
Those are the ones who likely grew up going to games and who will be loyal to USC long after the foreigners and out of staters go home after graduation.

I swear to God this is a true story. Many years ago I dated a girl named Marlena Vienna and our favorite haunt was the Dresden Room. When I saw your poster name I laughed but when you mentioned the Swingers movie and the Dresden Room I shit in my pants. I know it can’t be my Marlena because she would be as old as I am and thereby incapable of making a cogent post like you just did. But what a coincidence. Incredible.

Pray for the days this radical liberal woke administration stops the affirmative action admission policies and cleans up the filth off our beautiful campus
One day a great rain will come wash away the scum and the filth off our streets. The radical liberal brainwashed zombie leadership of Haden Swann Folt CL Max Nokias and worst of all Clay Helton allowed the floodgates for lazy, untalented thugs and a “melting pot” of useless students. Let’s get back to bringing in the best and brightest and drop the woke diversity mandates. Unless we are going to offer crime, rape, drug dealing and violence as majors LOL

To me it’s a shame that it’s so impossible to get in. I have contributed significantly to the school over the decades since I was there. My son is thoroughly qualified and a member of Mensa. SC is just as corrupt as other schools that have taken millions from the Chinese Communists. It’s not for the people who helped build it anymore, not even close

Bryan. I’m sorry to hear that. Does your son still want to get in ?? It’s much easier if he applies after the freshman year. Hope that helps.

Prior to Folt the admission rate dipped below 10% for one year.
For the size of the admissions class, it is a really good quality of kids. Places like Stanford have lower acceptance due to taking a smaller clas. And the athletes bring down those GPA averages. I imagine some of the arts programs also bring down the GPA, since they are admitted on talents as well as grades.

I’ll make it simple. Stop the affirmative action CRAP + admit legacy purebreds = clean the filth off our campus
We are cleaning up the football program now it’s time to clean up the rest of campus

Our son was denied admission our of high school however was offered the TTP, which boasts a 30ish% acceptance rate. That program is best used with a year at CC as the chances are most people will make bonds their freshman year that make no sense to uproot and restart forming at a new place, especially if the school they chose to attend is in the neighborhood of USC in terms of national prestige. This is the scenario we happily find our son in, and USC has thus lost 4 yrs of fully paid tuition + a lifetime of abbreviated giving from me and none from him.
The flip side is the prestige of my degree grows stronger with each passing year, now approaching some very eminent schools in the field.
