Lincoln Riley wrote an essay for The Players Tribune on his departure from Oklahoma to USC.
It’s not particularly revealing but I will include a couple excerpts if you are curious.
“There are aspects of my departure and transition that I would certainly do differently if I could do it again, and I acknowledge that I could have handled some parts of the situation better. I absolutely own that. While I was able to talk with several players after the team meeting, I wish I would have had the time to sit down with each individual player and staff member to explain my decision.“
And this:
“Since my move, many have asked me why I would leave Oklahoma, and the best — and most honest — answer is that the opportunity at USC was simply the right job at the right time for me and for my family. We all have moments in life where we are faced with difficult choices, and this was the path my family and I chose. I don’t expect everyone to understand; in my line of work, that’s not possible.”
- It would have been interesting if Riley addressed Oklahoma’s impending move to the SEC but he didn’t. Or exactly when USC contacted him the first time regarding the job and how long it took to reach an agreement.
HURRY EVERYONE. SEE MY POST NEAR THE BOTTOM OF THE LAST THREAD. VERY VERY IMPORTANT. HAHA HURRY MICHAEL. HAHA.

Sorry….
[You’d think after my stern reprimand from Cal75 I’d be a little more sensitive…]
P.S.
When I got bitten by a giant Maui centipede a few months back I came home and asked my wife to Google how dangerous centipede venom was —she informed me “it says it can be troublesome if you’re especially sensitive.”

I see our beloved Ed is going to the dark side. Can you imagine how much harm we could cause if we all pitched in a few thousand dollars and promoted the shit outta an Ed stand up routine?

Why does he need to explain anything to anyone. It is a free country and thus he is free to move about the country and work for whomever he wishes. He felt that it was a good move for his future and his family. End of story.

It’s probably because people are actually interested in reading about Lincoln Riley in the Spring, and therefore the journalists actually request interviews with him, since there is a readership demand for it.
This high demand is different than the lack of demand for interviews with your favorite coach: (LINK) https://trojanswire.usatoday.com/2021/09/23/just-how-bad-was-the-damage-from-the-clay-helton-era-at-usc-football/

I remember a Helton presser with only Dan Weber present….asking Helton if he was upset with the USC center’s performance in the Cal game…

OK is good.
Just not $100 million good.
Riley will be coaching the Raiders in a few years.

Cal75,
The interm coach for the Raiders did a good job. you might be right about him going to the Raiders, however, I think Riley will be here for at least 5 years. He has to build up his resume in order to justify the $10 mil per year paycheck. We will see.

Scooter,
When things move that fast, most of the time you don’t get your thoughts or what you want to say in order. He seems sincere, so I will cut him a lot of slack. he has been honest with the team by getting rid of players that did not fit in the system and he is trying to build the system up. That is more than you can about Humpty Dumpty Helton.

Why go to the SEC when you can come to a weaker Pac-12 at a school that is sitting right on top of the biggest recruiting market in the country. You have a better chance every year to get to the playoffs here in SoCal. The more you get to the playoffs, the more chance you have to win it all. If you can get to the playoffs, luck really is a factor. The name of the game is just to get there. Once you are there you have at least a 25% chance of winning it all. You have a better chance of getting there in the Pac-12 than in the SEC. In that sense, it was the most logical decision that he could make. All of that criticism that he is getting is nothing more than sour grapes. It comes from all those USC haters around the country who are now trembling in their boots because USC may become a football power again. For them, nothing could be more evil outside of WWIII. If I was LR, I would ignore all of the criticism.

Good post Parcelman. The Okies are still butt hurt over the decision LR made. They took it personally, which shows how simple they are. The man simply made a life decision and moved his family westward, just like millions of people did before him. I mean compare Norman and Palos Verdes. Enough said.

Norman compared to Palos Verdes???? I’ve never been to Norman but I used to coach football in Palos Verdes. I’ll bet the difference between Norman and PV is like living on 2 different planets.

No one should spend 3 seconds deciding between Palos Verdes and Norman — but don’t go walking the cliffs at night –my girlfriend and I almost walked off the edge of one of those 200 foot drops back in my college days [I really believe an angel stopped us]….

The cliffs of Palos Verdes can be dangerous. We lost a kicker 10-20 years ago. He was drunk and he walked off those cliffs(I think that it was around the Point Fermin area). I know those cliffs well.

I hear ya, parcelman. When you’re young, walking around on those cliffs on a moonless night might seem romantic … but….
