USC Notes: Lincoln Riley Timetable

Some afternoon notes:

How many UCLA defensive starters or expected starters are transferring out?

Defensive lineman Odua Isibor has entered the transfer portal. Linebacker Caleb Johnson also left during spring practice and is looking at Texas and Miami.

  • UCLA will play UC Davis in 2027 at the Rose Bowl. So UC Davis will get a game in Southern California six years after it was supposed to play USC.
  • One last thing on Lincoln Riley’s essay.

Back when he got hired, I wrote he was initially contacted by USC in September. He omitted the month in the passage below when he said USC contacted his agent.

Riley is an intelligent guy. So he wouldn’t make a decision in one weekend. He’s not jumping on a Zoom and taking the USC job in 12 hours with Rick Caruso sending a plane to Oklahoma.

But that’s maybe a more palatable scenario to tell former players. It was a great decision for Riley to move to the Pac-12. But the actual details will probably take awhile to fully leak out.

    1. ‘Ol Mule Shoe saw the crap that Helton got away with and figured the USC job was easy money.

      ‘Ol Mule Shoe plays the same soft type of football that Helton and Harrell play.

      The PAC 12 is weak so ‘Ol Mule Shoe should be able to average about 8 or 9 wins a year, same as his cousin Clay.

        From your experience, how long do you think it took to set up the deal with Riley going through his agent? Also, how thick do you think the contract is? Please share your thoughts on the contract and implications in the contract> I’m sure there is at least three pages in the contract when you are spending and receiving $100 mil. Also, what is the attorny or agent’s fees? Thank you.

  2. Given the advent of NIL, he was likely worried less about the SEC than Texas. Also, what SEC schools can really compete against USC Boosters in NIL deals? The NCAA banned Snoop and Will Farrell from the sidelines for one reason…..Protecting the SEC as they had nothing to match that Star Power.

    4. After thinking about it (too long) I have a solution to the banishment of Stars on the sidelines. Give them a clipboard and a pen and make them sidelines workers. Pay a buck or two to write meaningless stats and the NCAA can’t say boo about it. I’d love see old Will Farrell as a chain gang member.

  5. Off topic, but I have to say that the world needs to be more focused on what is happening in Ukraine/Russia and China. Last I read, Russia had shipped 500K Ukrainians to Russia, including women and children. I imagine they will be used as hostages in negotiations. And now Putin fires a ballistic missile as a threat.

    WTF! When are we going to take this madman as a serious threat to the very existence of the planet?

    And all the while China is looking for a way to do the same thing to Taiwan.

    When will the stupid woke crowd wake the fuck up and realize that gender issues mean NOTHING when the planet is scorched by war or you have a dictator in charge of the world.

    Where are the celebrities demanding that China either denounces Putin, or they boycott Nike and Apple for making products in China?

    Our mainstream media doesnt cover the full implications of this because they are bunch of liberal idiots, bought and paid for by the Chinese.

    2. gametv— I mostly agree with your assessment —I was all in on Ukraine until recently. Now, I’m starting to realize this war is more complicated than the media is making out —& it needs to be resolved quickly for the benefit of both sides …oddly, not one prominent American official is pushing for that. Whenever the Clintons and the Obamas start urging people to send money to any cause I smell the stench of self dealing.
      As for China (not the country –the Party that rules it) , I hope the average American voter is beginning to figure out they’re buying off our courts, our legislatures and …oh, I was gonna say “and our chief executive” …but everybody already knows that part.

        When you see the price of food in the next 12 months, having less mouths to feed might be part of the plan.

        Everyone I know in the farm and ranch business says we ain’t seen anything yet with respect to prices. The ones I know personally have told me they are paying 350-400% more for fertilizer. Goldman Sucks has projected $185/barrel crude. USA is currently scraping the bottom of the barrel for diesel stock.

        Buy food, ammo, gold. And I’ve never been a prepper but what I see on the horizon is sending chills up my spine.

        People don’t realize the conflict couldn’t have come at a worse time. There is only a 6-8 week window to plant those crops. (1/3 of the world’s grain) April-May is crucial. If it ends much past that, the entire year’s harvest is lost. They have real winters there.

        We’ll be paying through the nose for any wheat based products. But the real losers will be third world countries who get the leftovers. Millions may starve.

        But hey, the crybabies don’t have to read any mean tweets, so to them it’s all worth it.

      2. We export wheat, I guess we no longer will at the same rate as before. There’s enough wheat production in the U.S. to keep us going, but it will certainly hurt the worlds market. Ukraine produced quite a bit.

        The poorest people who generally get the surplus are the ones who will suffer the most. Put a weak old guy who just likes to talk tough about dealing with Putin, or taking Trump behind the high school gym, was bound to make the bullies of the world show how unafraid they are of him.

        People with some sense knew this before the election. They supported the guy who yes, was a bit obnoxious. But that is one of the reasons our adversaries would never want to play poker with him.

      5. There has to be a correction coming. None of this is sustainable. I think the mid term will be a movement towards correction. At the very least it will be grid lock. Grid lock means nothing gets done, which is light years better than what we have now.

        I think most people are tired of the craziness and want to see grown ups in the room take charge. Also, TERM LIMITS! No more 30 year congress people. I’m tired of seeing the same people talking about problems today that were in charge of those same problems decades ago.
