USC Saturday Buzz: 10 Players To Watch

If you asked me after spring practice who are 10 players to watch this season, here’s five on offense and five on defense. These 10 will have a big say on the Trojans’ fortunes this season:

  • QB Caleb Williams
  • RB Travis Dye
  • RB Austin Jones
  • WR Mario Williams
  • WR Brenden Rice
  • DE Romello Height
  • DT Tuli Tuipulotu
  • LB Shane Lee
  • CB Mekhi Blackmon
  • S Calen Bullock

  1. I’d replace Austin Jones (who might get 8 carries a game) with Kyle Ford on that list. Ford is the only big WR on the roster, and he now seems fully recovered from ACL reconstruction.

      1. I hope Ford can fit right in and replace Kyle Drake from last year. That would be tremendous to the team and season.

  2. Good list. I’d remove Davis and Rice and replace them with OT Bobby Haskins and whoever is the other top OL. Raesjon Davis also starting to make some noise.

    1. It really is bogus that Baffert was able to hand off his horses. Kind of like Russian athletes not being able to compete for Russia, but as the ROC team.

I would be boxing White Abarrio & Simplification. I’d also place a small bet on long shot Tawny Port.

But I didn’t make it to Pomona or Los Al this morning and don’t wager online.

      1. Maker’s, Knob Creek and Wild Turkey Rare Breed used to be my go to’s.

But Wild Turkey has a new offering, Longbranch, that I lean towards now, even if UT alumnus Matthew McConaughey makes a few bucks off of each bottle. It’s so smooth!

But being the cheapskate I am, I usually have all of those on the rocks. For mixing, my buddy Jim Beam. 🙂

      2. I prefer Old Forrester 86 proof (not the 100 proof) over Makers Mark, Buffalo Trace, Knob Creek; all of which are more popular. Haven’t tried Blanton’s or Woodford which I believe is a Derby sponsor.

      3. Just finished a bottle of Buffalo Trace. It was decent.

Woodford is good, but I’m telling you, for the same $40 you should try the Longbranch.

I’m dying to try Blanton’s also, but won’t buy it on the secondary market. That’s the only place you can find it right now. Small retailers who double the price.

See my previous reference to being a cheapskate. 😉

      4. Yeah, Tirebiter, $25 for a 1.75L! LOL

If I’m filling the glass with ginger ale or Coke, it’ll do the job. But on the rocks? One of the others for sure!

  3. Scott: Good list, but I will also include these key players:
    Andrew Vorhees- Offensive lineman
    Bobby Haskins- Offensive lineman
Corey Foreman- Defensive End. Has to live up to the hype this season!
Brandon Pilli- Defensive Tackle. Will he stay injury free and play up to his talent level.
One key unknown Offensive Lineman from the Transfer portal
One key unknown Offensive Lineman from the Transfer Portal
One key unknown Outside Linebacker from the Transfer Portal

    1. That would have been good, Tirebiter. But after the race is over, we can all pick a winner.

I posted the winner 3 minutes before you wrote this. 🙂

    1. The horse did not like that dude! I was yelling at the TV for him to let the horse go. Thought the horse was going to get hurt and the guy was being stubborn about winning the battle.

    1. It really was amazing, especially with the way he had to pull up when he realized he wasn’t going to squeeze between the rail and the horse in the blue & yellow.

  4. So strange, MG.

They didn’t cancel main event due to the weight being missed. Stripped him of fhis belt and only Gaethje can win it tonight! LMAO

If Oliviera wins the fight, he does not get the belt back.

      1. They were stuck between a rock & a hard place. Namajunas-Esparza was not worthy of being elevated to the main event of a PPV fight!

Had it been a free event, they may have went another way.

  5. The two returning players may be the most interesting to watch over the others just to see if the stink of Helton’s coaching can be “coached” out of them. (Tuipolotu and Bullock).

The rest of the them – almost all new guys – don’t have the albatross known as Coach Helton around their neck dragging them down. So whatever they bring is already a bonus.

Better that, than inside the main house dealing with the wrath of a woman scorn.

  6. The primary reason pinãta rents is not responding is because he did a deep dive on uclol for the last 20 yrs and still can’t come up with 10 players to watch.

    1. Sanchez also said: “You can compete with these SEC schools and now we are on par with them,” Sanchez said on The Herd with Collin Cowherd show. “All these collectives created so that everybody gets a little piece of the action—I don’t know where this ever stops. These bidding wars … It’s the wild, wild west right now. But USC is dishing out some cash and figuring it out.”

  7. Who said that there are more women in heaven than men?– They are the givers of life so they have a built-in advantage of knowing more about living than we do. Or as the old joke goes about a conversation between a guy and God”
“So God, why did you make women so pretty?”
    “So you would like them”
And why did you make them so motherly?”
    “So you would like them”
“But why did you make them so dumb”

    1. There are two things SUCLA has always had (or used) better than us, TE’s and FG kickers. I have to give credit where credit is due. (Yes, we have exceptions to that occasionally. But they are consistent on both.)

      Let’s hope LR changes that.

    1. LOL about the hashtag. That idiot tried to attribute 600K COVID deaths to DT yesterday. As we pass 1M this week, the score is actually approximately DT 400K – JB 600K and he’s had the vaccines the entire time.

She made excuses about JB not being able to forced people to take the vaccines (that were developed under DT). But they made no such allowances for DT. In fact, many claimed he had “murdered” all the people who died from COVID. They faulted him for all of them, but for JB? Excuses. And blaming everything under the sun for all of their failings, except their policies.

      Morons.
