Suzanne Nora Johnson has been elected the next Chair of the USC Board of Trustees, effective immediately.
Johnson, 65, is co-chair of the Brookings Institution and previously worked for Goldman Sachs.
Last week, Brookings was in the news because president John Allen resigned following allegations he illegally lobbied for Qatar. Qatar contributed tens of millions of dollars to Brookings before the funding relationship ended last year.
According to USC, Johnson was chair of the search committees that helped identify and hire Athletic Director Mike Bohn and Chief Investment Officer Amy Diamond. Remember, several candidates turned down the AD’s job before Bohn took it.
“Chair Nora Johnson is an insightful strategist and an ethical and collaborative leader,” USC President Carol Folt said in a statement. “She will work tirelessly to help USC advance and progress, and we will benefit greatly from her experience, enthusiasm, and energy.”
“My fellow Trustees and I pledge to hold ourselves to the highest standards of ethics and accountability as we support USC,” Johnson said in a statement. |
REACTION: Johnson will not wield the power Caruso has at USC the past few years. So this probably puts more power in Folt’s hands.

Speaking about futuristic movies. Watch ‘Ready Player 1’. It was made about 4 years ago. It’s another dystopian movie about how , in the future, 2% of the people in the world will live like Gods and the other 98% will live like peons. The movie was made by Stephan Spielberg. He has been quoted as saying that he believes that this will actually happen.

I really wish they’d quit lying:
Karine Jean-Pierre on Jun 13, 2022: When Joe Biden “walked into this administration 20 million people were on unemployment insurance benefits.”
The unemployment level peaked at about 23 million people in April 2020, right when the economy was shutting down. By January 2021, when Biden was being sworn in, the number of unemployed Americans had fallen by more than half, to 10.2 million.

I’m not saying that it was the greatest movie ever made. It was OK. All I’m saying is that it is a dystopian movie about a dark future and the man who made it(Stephan Spielberg) said he believes it will come true(unless the people of the world stand up and stop it).

Yes. [But you know what I’ve seen at 99% of the demonstrations labeled “white supremacist” by CNN —a bunch of average Americans protesting government shutdowns or the slashing of police budgets. I can’t comment on what you’ve seen on CNN (unfortunately they seem to have stooped to the same level as Fox News). But to my original point, Brookings–having positions both left and right–ends up in the center. Dennis Prager calls colleges the “seminaries of the left.” The place where leftists destroy the values you raised your children with and indoctrinate them with anti-American values. How long before parents say enough and start sending their kids to orthodox Christian colleges or decide to save $200,000 and skip college altogether.

PH: Most of you conservative commentators went to USC–what Dennis Prager would call a “seminary of the left,” and none of you turned into liberal elites. (Conservative elites maybe.) More BS generalizing that serves to only stoke hate and division within this country.
I’d quote Rodney King and say, “Can’t we all just get along,” but I’d probably be accused of being some BLM/Antifa crisis actor.
LikeLiked by 1 person
I agree with Rodney 100%, Oaktown. But let’s also agree the old left/right labels don’t work anymore. The new breakdown: folks who believe in the U. S. Constitution (which guarantees freedom to express political views and the right to assemble to address grievances …and the duty of public officials to protect our borders so that American taxpayers can support American citizens in need, not the entire world population) and, on the other side of the divide, folks who want to move away from those constitutional guarantees without lawfully amending the constitution (which is exactly what the people behind Biden want & are doing).

It is not “BS generalizing” to say colleges are controlled by liberal elites. A recent study at Harvard showed that 94% of their students identified as progressives with only 6% identifying as conservatives. Larry Summers when he was the President of Harvard stated that the goal of college was to get students to re-think the values of their parents. A few years ago, all 28 instructors at UCSD identified as liberal or progressive with 0 identifying as conservatives. Well over 50% of Columbia’s journalism department identifies as socialist or communist. And criticism of the death of diverse thought and opinion at colleges does not “stoke hate and division.” On the other hand, critical race theory is designed to stoke hate and division and I bet you support making this mandatory starting in elementary school.

No one is stoking more hate & division than our President and his party. Supporting the intimidation of our Supreme Court Justices, saying nothing about the vandalism of churches, opening the flood gates at the border with zero concern about the exploitation by the criminal element?!
Your effort at being a calming voice will draw no such comparisons. I feel the same way, except that all of this was so foreseeable. Only people who weren’t paying attention didn’t see that he wasn’t fit for office and would make poor decisions.
Both sides need to call out their own extremists for what they are…violent thugs who aren’t going to change anything through intimidation & destruction.
As they said in “Rent”, the opposite of war isn’t peace, it’s creation.

MG, that is a very succinct breakdown that I find to be refreshing and honest. Thank you for sharing it.
I wholeheartedly agree on the Constitution. But let’s also remember that much of it is a framework–and in many cases must be (and always has been) interpreted in some fashion. And we know that interpretations vary wildly depending on where you sit on the political spectrum. This is why I feel we (i.e., both parties) need to stop listening to the fringes and instead work together in the middle and acknowledge we won’t solve all the issues but we can at least tackle and agree on solving the most pressing ones. Because right now, nothing is getting done.

With all due respect, why are white conservitives labled extreme supremacists? For me, the labeling is trying to seperate white conservatives from the crowd so that they can be picked off more easliy that way. You take down one group then the next group will fall easier. My views are based on what the traditional American stands for. Also, is there a slang name for black left goose stepping democraps or consverative blacks? You can apply this quesiton to all races. I would like to hear your thought on this. Thank you.

Hi pasadenatrojan. I’m not sure anyone is being labeled “extreme supremacists” but I think I get your point, that white conservatives are being labeled as extremists. I could say that same about progressives being labeled as “black left goose stepping democraps.” 🙂 This is a point I made in another post about generalizations. Let’s stop jumping to conclusions about people when they express either a conservative or liberal POV. I think we might have a lot more in common than you’d think.
As for what “the traditional American stands for,” I’m not convinced there is such a thing as a “traditional American” anymore and there hasn’t been for nearly 150 years. (I think I know what you mean by that term but if you’d like to define it then by all means do.)

I was listening to an energy expert from an oil company on KFI yeaterday regarding the War Powes Act. She said that Newsom has a stack of leases to drill for oil on his desk. And he won’t sign them. She said that there is so much oil in the State of Ca and that they would not have to import oil. Also, about 30-40% comes from the middle east. Around another 10-15% from Canada. She said the oil companies want to produce more oil but Biden and Newsom won’t let them. She said she did not know how the War Powers Act would wore out because that is Consititunial Law. Maybe Michael or Lawyer John could have a say about the War Powers Act regarding the oil companies.

From your expertise, can you fill us in on how the president can force a company to do what he wants? A private commercial company has free reign on what they do. However, I can if is for the good of the nation so be it. However, this was caused by the government and the president wants to blame the oil company for his screw up. It should be up to the president to fix his problem byu alllwing drilling. Thank you.

Let’s cut to the chase —everything Biden’s wrecking crew does is meant to hurt the oil companies. He said as much in the first debate (before going to sleep at the one hour mark). Now he wants to blame the oil companies for the fact HE destroyed our energy independence in a little over a year. This horrid fuck of a man uses his presidential powers to weaken the United States. The framers never contemplated a president using his legitimate powers to dismantle the country.

The science for global warming is solid. But anyone that wants to transition to renewables needs to have a smart strategy. Most of the policy is merely finding ways to make a different group of people wealthy and reduce real competition.
