Former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer believes USC and UCLA to the Big Ten will help the Midwestern schools in recruiting.
“Now you’re going to see the floodgates open up in (recruiting),” Meyer said. “Now those families (in Southern California) will be able to watch their sons play.”

Exactly Urban Meyer is right on this move for USC to the Big 10. It Opens up more teams to the players available in your own backyard. Plus all the other schools on the west Coast that you already recruit against. Good luck tobUSC in recruiting in a few years.

…that’s exactly what Carol was thinking: “this move should eventually end USC recruiting at both a local and national level!”…..

That is crazy. The reasons to come to USC far outweigh the reasons to go to Michigan or Penn State. USC needs to have a national footprint to recruit at the highest levels.
Those teams were already coming to the west coast to recruit.

I don’t think this is as much a factor as he says. “Now those families (in Southern California) will be able to watch their sons play.” They already can watch them play on TV. Is one local game a year really going to “open the floodgates?”

No worries, boogs. SC has plenty of wideouts. Troy will just simply convert most of them to offensive linemen, and their problem will be solved.

It seems that this recruiting opportunity would apply both ways. Maybe some mid west lineman will now want to go to USC if their parents can watch them on TV every week and see them play locally a few times a year. Further, USC can now legitimately say to a California O line prospect that they will play against the best competition which will enhance their draft prospects.

USC, UCLA cut their throat all the way and with a rusty blade with this one. The Wokesters pulled off a brilliant move in wounding USC, UCLA and P12 student athlete and alum culture and tradition and influence. When they published all those NYT articles about how CFB and college athletics are some how “evil hotbeds of conservatism” it was a sign the end is nigh. The Postmodernism revolution will not be resisted. Smh

How can anyone have a problem with me and Carol cleaning house at USC. Brought in a slam dunk of a coach, and gave the PAC12 every opportunity to make us a fair deal. In the end we understood that to be an elite program, we needed to step up and move to the B1G time. Fight On!

I support USC move to the BIG TEN all the way. Forget about those jealous idiots, that would prefer to have USC permanently become a afterthought in the big picture of college football. I am so excited about this move, it’s like Christmas came in July.

“The Big Ten voted to delay the date for completing its media rights deals (Fox Sports has a deal for half of Big Ten games, CBS is the lead bidder for a second package and a third package was being bid on by Amazon Prime Video, ESPN and NBC). Now that USC and UCLA are joining Big 10, however, Apple has rejoined the bidding and this should bring record revenue for Big Ten, which was expected to surpass $1 billion in media-rights fees per year before USC and UCLA came on board, according to Sports Business Journal.”

“They [USC] were concerned about the Pac-12, the television marketplace,” Neinas said. “It can’t compare to what they’re going to get as a result of going to the Big Ten. For anyone who wants to do the blinders routine and imagine Urban Meyer doesn’t know what he’s talking about (lol), one need only to look what happens for Big 12 teams and SEC teams and ACC teams that are not in FL, TX, GA, but get to have a game or two in FL or TX or GA and how important that is on giving those teams access to that talent. We’ve opened the door to the Big 10 and the available talent is one sided. The Rust Belt league just got its way into the Sun Belt.
The Big 10 conference effed up with the emotional moves to get Rutgers and Maryland because the ACC took in Notre Dame sports and set up a football scheduling special agreement and revenue sharing package. Of course then Big Ten honcho Delaney who still pulls strings and his precious Big 10 accusing the ACC of poaching is rich, considering that the Big 10 was already in the ACC’s territory and just wanted to make a play for the NYC and DC markets but failed miserably. And now look, poached the Big 12 and failed (Nebraska needed those Texas games for Texas talent! )
Rutgers is another example– it’s best era was playing in Florida where it could recruit, and UMd is losing its DMV talent to other Big 10 schools and getting nothing in return. Better stop lying to yourself and listen to Urban Meyer..
Greg Schiano outspokenly made his strategy about maximizing those games vs Miami when it was still in the Big East then vs South Florida and one OOC to play a South Florida team when he possibly could as a way to recruit South Florida talent.
Being in a conference that covers your hometown is a huge deal psychologically, as is being able to come home and play in front of family and friends, and for recruits to meet to a local game and meet the big time coach that came into town…
That aside just in terms of travel for the benefit of student athletes and alum and supporters, Carol Dolt and Boner, and the commies across town could have insisted on at least bringing the California schools if not the West Coast 4 big programs that we have so much history and would have entirely made scheduling work for our student athletes and our alum in Stanford, Cal, UW and Oregon. And perhaps 2 if not 4 of the Corner Schools (Utah, Colorado, even if ASU and UA were left behind as too weak athletically and academically.) Money, power, agendas, politics, self interest.

Pudly —It’s so much worse than that —Urban was always goosing everybody — it wasn’t an isolated incident — a day didn’t go by when he didn’t find a bar and leave the team to fend for itself …he’d even make videos of himself doing it…..just to make himself look bad….

I think Global Consultant is absolutely right. The travel requirements and weather favor the Big 12 over USC. So does the recruiting. If we get blown out by the Big 12 in the first year, which is a possibility given that Caleb Williams and Addison will be in the NFL, our veteran offensive line will be moving on, and our defense may not be particularly strong, it will be very hard to recover given the recruiting implications. And, I don’t think UCLA has a chance to compete given their lack of recruiting and an indifferent fan base. This could turn out to be a real disaster. We may become the Washington State of the Big 12 with only the “Apple Cup” against UCLA to look forward to every year.

This is all about money. I don’t see how it will help the team itself. If Meyer is right, it will hurt Rileys ability to lock down the SoCal recruiting market. I don’t see how traveling such long distances to areas where the weather is inclement to play away games will help SC. I’m not an authority on these things but it just seems to me that joining a league on the other side of the nation is not the ideal best thing for the team itself(aside from the money). A much better solution would have been to build up the Pac-12 into a powerful conference…..maybe add Texas and Oklahoma and Baylor and even TCU and stay near home. But Larry Scott destroyed the Pac-12. That’s what socialists do. I think they should have given the new commissioner more time to build this conference up. Let him know that they were ready to get out if things don’t change and see what he could do.

Any fan who doesnt support this move simply doesnt understand where college football is going. You simply cant be a major program if you are saddled with the Pac-12’s diminished revenue streams.

When the 2nd most incompetent white man on the planet says this will help the Big 10 instead of the L. A. teams, you have to wonder how he convinced anyone to hire him. It ain’t about “tradition” that will get you talent, its about the cash. And NO ONE HAS MORE CASH THAN USC AND UCLA. Don’t believe me? California has the 5th largest GDP in the world. . .what does that mean? We have more cash here than any other place in the U.S. and we have access to Asia/Australia/Canada capitalists. When you see venture capitalists getting involved into college football, remember you heard it from this post first.

The sky is falling! What will we do? We’ve never recruited against anybody, ever. We have nothing to sell other than a top 5 coach, top 5 football program history, hall of famers at every practice, the best weather in the world, the best NIL opportunities in the country, a top 20 academic school in the country, and now a truly national footprint, interest, and network (we will be on Fox every week). Why would any kids want to play here?

The move here would be for the Pac12 and Big12 to merge. But who will blink first? B12 just hired a new commissioner this week and seems to be in a superior bargaining position. Kliavkoff pissed people off with his comments last year at the idea of taking B12 schools. Big Ten waiting on Notre Dame.
