Four-Star Down To USC And Texas

Four-star defensive end Braylan Shelby has narrowed his choices to USC and Texas.

Shelby is from Friendswood, Texas, so will anyone be surprised if he goes to Texas? They seem to be cleaning up right now in recruiting.

If he were an offensive lineman, I would definitely say he is going to Texas.

    1. Steve Sarkisian has been running circles around Lincoln Riley as far as recruiting goes, have you seen his latest recruiting class..Wow! Several 4&5 star offensive lineman, just unbelievable. So don’t think for a New York minute, that Braylan Shelby is going to USC, because he’s not. 😂. So far, the only thing Riley has recruited, is transfer portal players that couldn’t cut it at their previous schools, and a few of his players at Oklahoma. 😂

      3. So many clueless idiots on this board! There is one big problem that is not Lincoln Riley’s fault – the other schools have collectives that are buying players and USC doesnt.

I’m pretty sure that Riley will demand that USC finds a way to offset this problem, soon. There is nothing wrong with Riley.

The problem might lie at the level of Bohn or Folt not wanting to dip into the dirty side of NIL. Suck it up and jump in the muck.

    2. Lincoln Riley should knock on Steve Sarkisian’s door, and ask him if he could have some of his leftovers who are thinking about entering the transfer portal, especially linemen. 😂😂😂😂

      1. Sark couldn’t even qualify to carry Riley’s jockstrap around…Trolling a rival blog is a sign of true respect! (comprehend?)

      2. Maybe, Gabby….but Sark would sure like to qualify for that job….

  1. Do they sell Cutty Sark soaked masks?

And how did the “V” Sark sported around SC suddenly become wider?

7-win seasons get you fired in Washington and SC (with a little alcohol thrown in). But 7-win seasons in Texas get you tarred-and-feathered as they rail you out of Austin.

Bevo looks too tame to join the ‘Running of the Bulls,’ but that also should keep him alive longer.

Scariest moment of my life was when I was driving a commercial truck into Texas and was meant by border guards. I had an ounce of MJ with me for the ride, and I was afraid they would search the truck and I would be getting out of a Texas jail about now. This happened in 1976!

    1. Great story, L. J. May I top it? I was cross walking in Westwood with a bruin student —we both got stopped. While the cop was asking us questions the scared little bruin boy took out what he thought was a handkerchief [but was actually a small bag of marijuana] and started wiping his brow with it. The cop just laughed and said “I’m gonna pretend I didn’t see that.”

  2. These are the kind of guys they have to get. USC football should be a powerhouse when it comes to recruiting. They have advantages that the other schools don’t have. So the problem is fixable. That’s the one thing that CH never did….fix problems. Sometimes he would acknowledge the problem and even give lip service to fixing it but the next year came around and the problem was still there. Plus he had AD’s who were not problem solvers. I think LR is different and I think Mike Bohn is different. They have to analyze and find out what the problem is and then fix it. Like I said, it is fixable. But you can’t keep losing these guys. Being in the final 2 or 3 when vying for a recruit is no better than being in the final 100 if you lose the recruit.

    1. Slovis a gutsy, accurate QB — who hopefully has a better line in front of him at Pitt…

    2. After 4-years of college ball Slovis should be pretty well developed. But being the No. 9 quarterback still is no assurance of being a high draft choice.

However, I will always treasure his SC frosh season when he looked like the next ‘sliced-bread’ sensation.

    3. I’m not so sure I agree with these experts but I could be wrong. If you would have asked me that after his first year, I would have told you that he was the greatest steal in the 21st century. But his last 3 years have been underwhelming(even with great receivers).

Now, you are not out of the woods quite yet, GT, because some folks have terrible long-term effects such as a foggy brain.

But on second thought, a foggy brain is almost a requirement to post on this blog.

      4. I have absolutely zero respect for Abbott and his racist agenda. That discussion can be for another day. I will continue to respect your opinions, right, wrong or indifferent. The courtesy has been mutual, thanks

Your act of kindness should be addressed, I applauded you. Over the years I have used day laborers more times than I can remember. They have great work ethics, never complain, and are very respectful. The language barrier is about the only problem, yet minor.

      5. Gabby –I usually reply to you cuz I respect the way you’ve mastered what passes as political dialog these days —clever attacks, divide and conquer tactics and a solid understanding of your side’s best talking points —so please consider this underlying truth: America is broke –we need to care & provide for the people already here as well as those legally arriving in the future–ALL of them. And no one else. That isn’t racist. It’s just basic economic reality.

      7. MG….I’m 100% in agreement with you over “America is broke”. This country has long been perceived as a Nation, second to none, offering unsurpassed humanitarian aid, but at a burden to taxpayers. With that said, what is the correct balance between the two, cost vs aid? Immigration reform is just a can getting kicked down the road, IMO

Regarding “racist”, I was referring to Abbot’s effort to restructure voting districts in and around metropolitan areas of Texas, where Latinos were the voting majority.
