USC Sunday Notes: Football Concludes Day 3

USC practiced at the Coliseum this morning, its third practice of training camp.

I’m told some players who stood out in spring — defensive end Romello Height, linebacker Shane Lee, safety Calen Bullock — continue to look strong. I’m also told safety Bryson Shaw, a transfer from Ohio State, has made some good impressions.

  • Roger Mosley, who played TC in Magnum P.I., died this weekend. He was 83. Mosley has been an assistant track coach at Monrovia High School, where he coached the hurdles.
  • ESPN analyst Lee Corso turned 87 today. Corso is 17-0 when he picks USC on GameDay. He is 5-1 when he picks the Trojans’ opponent.

Remember when he cut his lip during a sword fight with Kirk Herbstreit in 2013?

    1. I thought I saw a schedule with some open practices coming up.

If they want to keep practices closed so opponents cant get info, I am fine with that.

  1. When SC lets nobody into practice it is probably up to the coaches to tell the media about the day and how players shined. I liked the days of PC when everybody went to practice and nobody cared.

  2. WAIT WAIT WAIT!!!!…. Hey, wolf!!!…. after 3 days of practice this is all you can come up with….EMBARRASSING!!!!…perhaps you need to rename your blog. “OUTSIDE USC”

    2. Scott is cleverly protecting himself from lawsuits by putting the words into other folks’ mouths —like star witnesses at the January 6th Select Committee are doing….

      1. MG… I would not expect anything less from you. Tolerance can be difficult to maintain, ask slo cal.

Regarding the Jan 6th hearing, I took great pleasure in listening to how one republican after another paints a picture of trump’s culpability…Thanks for reminding me!

      2. Gabby,
The key phrase there is ‘one [grifter] republican after another’ —they’re as bad or worse than the dems. I guess they’re scared their day is over —and, guess what?, it is…..

      3. Gabby — I have a bunch of respect for your debating skills [if not your viewpoint —except, of course, when you’re driving my old buddy So Cal into putting my masculinity into what we lawyers call “false light”] …but…you don’t wanna ever get to the point you trust repubs only when & as long as they’re trashing Donald Trump…..

  3. Bryson Shaw did not leave Ohio State to sit on the bench at USC.

I hear alot of skeptics on USC’s defense, but I think it is loaded with talent. There are some very talented athletes that were injured or not properly coached last year – Raesjon Davis, Korey Foreman, Brandon Pili, Julien Simon, Max Williams, Solo. Combine that with the new players and a few stars from last year (Tuli, Figueroa, Bullock) and you have a very good roster of talent. There is even some decent depth at many positions.

    1. Got to agree Game. The nice part is they have new players that can run like they are not carrying a piano on their back. We actually have some speed and if that isn’t new, nothing is.

  4. Always loved posting this video of Mike Alstott and comparing USC football fans to him in the face of USC’s administration which was horrible and still is. USC fans will never relent.

      1. Plus numerous sunken boats from decades past.

Las Vegas Water District has sounded the siren over the drought issues. But the powers that be continue to allow growth at an unsustainable rate. A total sell-out to future generations.

Golf courses will be the next to pay the price.

    1. I’ll go further [I usually do]: If we don’t win by 3 TD’s its a bad sign….cuz it won’t be that we didn’t score lots of points, it’ll be because our defense gave up almost as many as we scored.

      1. I would not take Rice with only 30. Unless they were playing the brubabies. In which case 17 would be more than enough.

    1. Almost everybody is saying the same thing: USC will beat everybody in the Pac 12 …except Utah. Crap!
Athlon basically is saying we’ll lose to Utah twice this year —regular season and title game.

      1. Utah lost a ton of talent. USC gained a ton of talent and how has an HC with a whole new staff. Things could be very different by end of season.

      2. Fortunately for chippie —although fans are saying he’s lazy….and his team sez he plays favorites…. and Athlon is saying his day is past — his bankrupt employers are good with all that…

      3. I agree with you, not with Athlon. It won’t be easy —but a healthy USC beats Utah.

    2. “If you go back and look through their entire history, when USC plays physical, they win titles. When they’re not, they just put up stats. It’s really that simple. The physicality means they’re getting those elite guys on both lines. It means they’re developing NFL dudes, and they’re a mile ahead of the league.”

What he said–and I think what most of us have been saying as well.
