USC Morning Buzz: It’s Not As Crowded At Defensive End (For Now)

USC training camp is not even a week old so it’s too early to form conclusions.

But is it any surprise highly touted defensive end Korey Foreman missed the past two practices?

Lincoln Riley said Foreman had a previous commitment on Monday night. Foreman also missed Tuesday morning’s practice.

Today’s practice is closed to the media. If Foreman returns, it won’t matter much that he missed a couple practices.

But USC has Romello Height (from Auburn) and Solomon Byrd (from Wyoming) at the same position so there is a lot of competition. Height has been impressive since last spring and is liked by the coaches. He should be considered the starter.

Foreman has been hyped by the media this offseason so there are expectations for him based on that and his five-star ranking in high school. He was injured for parts of last season.

  • Andy Jenkins, a long-time assistant at Oregon State, has been hired as the final assistant by USC baseball coach Andy Stankiewicz. Jenkins has also coached at Cal State Fullerton and Washington.

    Can’t help but be reminded of Gillespie’s rules that Scott posted the other day. Rule #1 was “don’t ask for special favors”, i.e. to miss practice for this, that or the other.

    Death of a parent or sibling. That’s understandable. But anything else? Hmmmm.

    Oregon St recently has had a great program. It sounds like Coach Andy has the funding to get things done the right way. I think Foreman has lost his starting position. He will come off the bench and will have to produce to earn any starting time. My opinion.

        I have to work to support a lot of bums, socialist justice warriors, illegal aliens, planned parent hood, pelosi’s drug habit by drinking, biden’s giving away money to the chinks by giving oil, for high gas prices because of biden, inflation because of biden’s failure at running a country let alone his own household, and so I don’t have time to comment all the time. Most Democrats only care when the problems end up right on their laps. For example when Governor Abbott from Texas ended up sending border crossers to Delaware, New York and D.C. Then the mayor’s over there want to call a state of an emergency all of a sudden. Which was denied by the Dept of justice and FEMA.

  14. When I played football at SC (1966-1969), I never, ever missed a practice! If I did, Coach Marv Goux would get on your ass and ride you until you got sick. I saw that happen many times with that coaching staff with other players. They were NOT very understanding with your personal situations. Injuries were somewhat excusable, but not by much!

    1. We use to get our asses ridden on in Pop Warner and high school football by the coaches if we missed any practice. Non of that Allen Iverson nonsense growing up playing the game. We talking about practice! I don’t Think so, you don’t practice you don’t play, that simple!
