Bobby Haskins

The transfer from Virginia gets it. I like the way he talks. He’s mature and offers good leadership for the offensive line. He should be a starter by Sept. 3.

Lincoln Riley

Has avoided any serious injuries to key players so far in training camp. And with USC ranked No. 14 in the AP Poll, expectations are just right for him. Not too high or too low.

Jaxson Dart

He already looks like he won the starting job at Mississippi.

The athletic dept.

Sometimes it is hard to tell if they want former athletes to return. They are turning away football players from a pre-game pizza party before the Rice game. They have turned away ex-players who showed up for football practice. But if you make a large donation, well, that’s different.

They blew off the Pac-12 Network and nobody cares anymore.

Solomon Byrd

The rush end from Wyoming has benefitted simply from not missing any practices, unlike Korey Foreman.

LOSERS

USC

With six fraternities (and maybe more) disassociating themselves from the university, USC loses control over their activities. That won’t be helpful if there are any controversies at those fraternities.

Rick Caruso

Isn’t he the guy that should have solved the issues with the fraternities years ago? He was president of Sigma Alpha Epsilon when he attended USC and president of Order of Omega, a Greek honors society. Maybe he didn’t want to deal with it because it might taint his future mayoral ambitions.

I wonder how some football employees like being transferred to the NIL operation, which seems to have an amateurish feel, especially with donors plotting its demise.

  3. USC staff will screw the pooch on Blvd, just give it time. The minds behind SBR realized it and are coming in to save the day, and the recruiting. (which of course is never discussed until they sign LOI)

  5. How can Scott say that Haskins should be a starter by Sept. 3. Practices are closed. Scott hasn’t seen him or any of the other tackles compete against our D line. Being mature and articulate and providing a good post practice interview does not win you the starting tackle position.

  8. If I’m not mistaken, as I am often, Fraternity organizations are national. This means USC has become so “woke” as to be a drag on the system. Most students at USC are of adult age and don’t need Carol Folt for a mama.
    If Haskins is a winner doesn’t that make Foreman a loser?
    What happens if Foreman is a good player? Will Scott criticize his shoes or socks?

  9. Folt does not want fraternities at USC. It is not part of her woke agenda. She is also opposed to legacy admissions and championship football but changed her mind about football when she realized that this would severely impact donations to the university. Folt’s vision is to transform USC into Stanford academically and to embrace the equity, diversity, and inclusion agenda. God help us.

      3. MG: If I started a litigation firm, I would hire the most talented people I could find. People who give the firm the best odds of winning. Great research attorneys, great brief writers, people with engineering backgrounds who could assist with technical issues, and great trial lawyers. No other criteria. I would not hire anyone based on “equity” which means the opposite of merit. If you hire based on equity, you are doing a disservice to your clients.

        Biden’s cabinet is based on equity, inclusion, and diversity. Look at the results.

  10. Haskins didn’t come to USC to be a sub. He came to play and for a rare occasion I have to totally agree with Wolf. Along with the two seniors on the line at center and tackle he will add an ingredient they have been missing. Rock solid ability and experience. This could become a great O line by the time we get to Utah.

    1. Don’t get your point steveg49. Ford and Monheim came to play too. Let them all compete. Nobody should be given a position just because they are a senior and transferred. Agree that we have the potential to be a great O line.

      1. Not saying give it to him, but I see him and his ability to earn and keep the position. Helton is gone and nobody should be given a spot. Point is he could have stayed at Virginia, but chose USC for a reason. Ford and Monheim will play, just not necessarily as starters.
