Lincoln Riley’s Goal For The Week

Here is what Lincoln Riley said tonight on “Trojans Live” about USC’s goal for the week.

“Playing a cleaner, more full football game has been the rallying cry this week.

“We need to be as good as we can be, like yesterday. We’re on a race against time.”

  1. They need to bench Korey Forman until he starts to produce. Soloman Bird played like a champion. He had 2 sacks, 2 TFL. He’s the guy that should be in there. They hardly even used him in game one. How can they sit this guy on the bench? That kid can play. They need to go to Foreman and say “I don’t care what you did in the past….the important thing is what have you done lately”? Foreman has the ability but someone has to light a fire under his butt.

Should be to start looking to hire a defensive coordinator, defensive line coach and a secondary coach that know what the hell they’re doing.

      1. A good defensive coordinator would substitute and sit a lot of the Trojan defensive players that are stinking it up. Tuli Tuilupoopoo, Kourtney Foreman and Blackmon need to hit the pine, those girls are getting tossed all over the field like a rag dolls, Blackmon committing pass interference after pass interference

      2. Still calling Tuli a Polynesian girl? 6 tackles, 4 for losses of 20 yards, broke up a pass, forced a fumble. David Shaw said “Tuipolutu dominated us, he was living in our backfield.”

      3. I’ve always believed that Clay was a class act. I know that view is not popular on this forum but I think that it’s true. The real problem was not that he was not a class act. I’ve always said that the real problem was that he was not a great coach. He should have never been hired. I blame Pat Haden for that and the golf boy for extending his contract. He was the perfect guy to fulfill Max Nakias’ desire to keep the USC football program a mediocre program. Even though Clay Himself wanted to bring SC back to the promiseland, he just wasn’t a good enough coach to do it. I wish him all the best in his new coaching job.

“USC’s polynesian pipeline led defensive front is a turnstile.”

So, still standing by these statements about Tuli?

      5. Yes! Entirely the coach’s fault for having a bunch of players who were never coached up under the Helton regime and transfer portal warriors. Shocking that they’ve not developed any sort of comfort/ continuity with each other. Toss in playing an entirely different scheme, of course these idiot kids should be playing at an all-world level.

You can’t will USC to be good just because you want them to. 8-4 was a wildly successful season prior to what we’ve seen thus far is an NFL like parity.

      6. LOL!

What does Helton have to do with the transfer portal players on USCs defense that are stinking it up?

Quit making excuses for how those girls are playing and instead give an equal amount of blame to the crap coaching that allowed the Trojan defense to continually get burned on the same play that Stanford kept gaining huge chunks of yards, they just ran the ball down the Trojans throats over and over and over

      8. The longer the inept USC defensive coaching staff continues to stay with the same crap defensive front the more those girls are going yo get exposed

So thzy’s fine, great philosophy, stick with what’s not working. Why give other players a chance to see what they can do when you have overhyped players like Tuli Tuilupoopoo, Kourtney Foreman and Blackmon embarrassing themselves and the team as they have been routinely beat like they stole something.

As those aforementioned girls continue to stink it up you know who its going to fall on, Grinch, Nua and Williams…as it should.

USC getting torched on defense will be stapled to every resume those clowns fill out, so yeah, keep playing those girls, why bother giving other players a chance to show what they can do.

      1. Thanks, John. I wish judges were as understanding, back in the day, when we tried to continue trial & motions till next year….they always acted like we were delaying or something…

  3. It’s just words unless they finish what they start. He learned some lessons from last year at Oklahoma. I expect Fresno St to see way more zone blitz packages. The run fits depends on how the rush end and D End attack and hold the edge. Not getting any pressure inside without blitzing up the middle is a problem. I expect Taleni to get a shot at d tackle on 3rd downs. Barquet needs to show up. Oregon St is what I’m trying to figure out.

    1. Unfortunately nothing to figure out about Oregon State –they’re a bad ass team, coached by a bad ass coach, playing in a bad ass stadium…

      1. I have been in that stadium where they amplify the sound of a power saw on all 3rd down plays. A little strange. But after being in their brazen neighbor’s stadium (Oregon) down the road, Oregon St rooters are a piece of cake.

    2. I think that this Fresno State QB is the best we will have faces so far. He’s got a strong arm, he gets rid of the ball in a hurry and he’s very accurate. I actually think that he is better than McKee. The one problem he may have against SC is that SC has a lot of tall player in that front 7 and he’s only about 6 foot. That may effect his accuracy. But, like Stanford, if FSU is going to win, I don’t think that they will win it with their run game(although their run game isn’t bad). Stop or limit that QB and you stop Fresno State. The first 2 games he threw for 377 and 360. You have to cut down on those stats.

  4. This could be the game Foreman breaks out and becomes what we expect of him. USC will need his speed and athleticism to hunt down Haener, the Fresno Qb. Haener will roll to the right a lot.

  5. The GOAL IS TO WIN THE DAM GAME BY ALL MEANS NECESSARY IF YOU STAY READY YOU DON’T HAVE TO GET READY. GOAL FOR THE WEEK 1. Donte coach up the CB to not give up 10.34 per completion 2. Nua get your players to use leverage n stunts when pressuring QB. 3. Manning get your rush ends to set the edge m squeeze down n attack ball carrier with purpose n intent physicality. 4. Take care of all these things and that is the GOAL.

    1. Stanford ran that RPO run play to the left and continually gainex huge chunks of yards. It’s as if the inept USC defensive coaching staff had never heard the term, “seal the edge”.

Kourtney Foreman had her ass handed to her, she was tossed aside like a rag doll.

On a few plays yoh saw Stanford players shove Kourtney completely off the field like he was nothing and the coaching staff still left her in there…LOL!

  6. Understandably, Riley’s goal for the week should be to impress Scott Wolf! I can see it now; Riley standing at locker room for saying, “where do you think you’re going in those tights?” OR ” Next week we’ll all be winners in Scott Wolf’s winners and losers segment of there’ll be hell to pay! “

  7. Scooter,

With a new coaching staff and players, it will take about 6 games to have them fully ready. While the defense has given up plays, they also have shut it down in the red zone. Sc needs two to three d tackles and two to three de’s. Donte Williams has talent, but it is up to him to develop it. We will see

  8. This week USC just needs to come out and execute correctly and kick ass on both sides. Fresno will give them a game for sure and they will have to play 4 quarters in order to win. Haener is excellent at coming back in close games, just as ucla and Oregon St. Play tight on the receivers, they are not world class sprinters, and the backfield should be okay.
