USC Sunday Buzz: The Big Four All Think They Can Win Pac-12

USC thinks it will win the Pac-12.

Oregon thinks it will win the Pac-12.

UCLA thinks it will win the Pac-12.

Utah still thinks it can win the Pac-12.

Circle Nov. 19 on the calender: USC v. UCLA at the Rose Bowl while Utah is at Oregon.

It’s worth pointing out Oregon plays at Oregon State on Nov. 26 so that game could play a part too.

The great thing is we no longer have the divisions so things remain wide open for the Final Four teams.

Oregon definitely looks like the team of the moment with a rejuventated Bo Nix at QB. But the Ducks still play two tough games (Utah, Oregon State). UCLA’s got a trip to Arizona State before hosting USC.

USC should be on cruise control before playing UCLA. It plays Notre Dame on Nov. 26, but the Irish are not a Pac-12 game and are awful. If it beats the Bruins, USC should be in the Pac-12 title game.

USC vs. Oregon would be a tasty game. But right now, all these teams think they have a great chance. And it would be typical Pac-12 for an upset somewhere before the Pac-12 title game takes place.

  • This is what passes for crowd in the Bay Area. The official attendance for the Stanford-Arizona State game was 25,061.

He gave Putin all the secrets and stopped Ukraine from defending themselves we he decided to not sell military weapons. So I don’t want to hear that extremist right wing bullshit. Republicans only gain power by cheating stacking courts gerrymandering and create laws to challenge elections results. What did Trump do besides pass legislation for the wealthy. Since you Republican’s think your going to win the House & Senate, you better get ready for a democracy fight all the way to the midterm voting day. As for Trumpe is a dead man walking delaying testifying, delaying and impeding Jan 6 panels subpoena. Trumpe is going to jail, he must pay for all his wrong doings. Come on right wings give me your rebuttals other than political rhetoric your takes are always solid. And yes, I have a bit of econ understanding. Far more than you might understand.
IMHO, cheap money(FED) and high energy costs(this administration) are two of.. if not the most leading causes of our accelerating inflation. Supply chain issues don’t seem to be a problem if you want a big screen from Seoul.
If you need a refresher on Ukraine, please study the Minsk Accords for a primer.

      2. Supply chains shut down by stupid policies that didn’t help the spread, only delayed it. Nobody tried to protect the vulnerable and keep things moving, instead it was authoritarian shut downs topped by insane spending for zero reason. Giving out money to people already working makes zero sense, yet, it was done multiple times. Democrats are full blown socialists now, Republicans are tax and spend liberals of a few decades ago. The whole thing needs a huge reset, but it won’t happen. We are a nanny state and most want it. Our entitled attitudes have lead us down this path and now we are going to suffer the consequence of it. There has been a decades long attack on capitalism and shift to a government run instead of people run nation. Fighting amongst yourselves while the Mitch McConnell and Nancy Pelosi’s of the world have been “serving” for a thousand years is laughable. The left has full sprinted super left and the right has slowly followed. I fear it will take a full collapse (2nd depression) before we wake up. This time let’s pull ourselves out without the new deal.

I better not bring up his appeasement of the Iranian regime. I am sure Biden won’t get us involved in a nuclear war, after all his aids won’t let him near the red button.

      Sat, Oct 29
      @
California. Not a tough trip from Seatlle.
      Sat, Nov 5
      @
Colorado. Could be cold and snowy in Boulder.

      Sat, Nov 12
      vs
      Washington in Eugene

      Sat, Nov 19
      vs
      Utah in Eugene

      Sat, Nov 26
      @
      Oregon State

Over the decades, the Beavers have frequently surprised and beaten a better Ducks team in the Civil War game. This year? I suppose.

This we all know, “the Pac12 is notorious for cannibalizing itself” and making sure that no one ends up in the final 4. No reason to believe that 2022 will be any different.

I see Oregon running the table (barring injury or scandal).
It comes down to Nov 19 for the Trojans.

  3. I like the new format, it adds to the suspense of the season. As we move along through the schedule each game gains in importance and now it seems that is true for several teams. Nothing is better than college football.

  4. 25,000 attendance for Stanford is awful. College football attendance in the pac-12 was lowest ever last year at about 43K per game, and that number is probably inflated. Overall fan base is aging except in the south and in a few parts of the midwest. Pac coast student attendance has been declining for years as student body is much more international now, they have no experience with our game. USC made right choice to leave pac-12, but USC’s departure may be the death knell of the conference.

They are so much bigger than undergrad populations at Harvard, Yale, Princeton, etc. Somebody needs to figure out how to save the Pac 12. 2. I’m on record with my support for the Pac 8 and Pac 10.
Progress happens. I don’t like the move to the B1G, but we will see how CFB progresses.

I would have rather had the Pac 12 expand to Pac 16 and take the good Academic/Athletic schools from the Big 12–TCU, Baylor, Texas and then add BYU. Didn’t happen. I think the Big12 is a BB conference and should have devolved into a MBB conference.

With the move to the B1G for USC and UCLA, hopefully all the 4 and 5 star recruits from California eschew Stanford, The Oregons/Washingtons and UTAH and stay with the B1G schools (esp UCLA and USC).

No reason that a strong athlete should have chosen CU, Utah, the Oregons, etc. If the Pac devolves into a female sports conference, the good FB (and MBB) players will go to USC and UCLA.

Heck, even the women’s Pac12 sports are no longer doing well.

  6. Congrats to the Pac 12 for doing away with divisions to determine conference champion. The SEC and Big 10 missed the boat on this one.

Of course conspiracy theorists will say SEC wants Alabama in SEC championship game no matter what. Poor Tennessee if they lose to Georgia. Also, not right that a one loss Ohio State or Michigan can’t play each other again in the Big 10 championship game. Who is leading the Big 10 west? Yes, the feared Fightin Illini. Just put Michigan or OSU in the #2 playoff slot now!!

Kudos to Pac 12. Only issue is Pac 12 championship game is a dreaded Friday night telecast on December 2nd. giving USC, OR and Utah six days to prepare for game. UCLA has essentially a bye as it plays Colorado on Friday, 11/25.

  8. What it’s scenario are all over the place. We must win out period to reach the PAC CGAME. I don’t want to hear if we lose to the domers then we would have two losses, no CFP consideration. This is how I see it playing out USC beats Succla, Utah beats Oregon, then Oregon State beats Oregon. That would set up a game with Utah in Vegas. And we become champions. CFP will become a better option if 3 SEC teams end up with 2 losses, Clemsin gets upset by the comers n lose in ACC CG. Somehow Michigan beats Ohio St. twice eliminating Ohio St. If all those scenarios happen we are a lock, if one of those things don’t happen we are screwed.

  11. Often presidents inherit a bad economy and it wasnt their fault. In the case of Biden, he inherited the COVID mess, but this inflation is a result of bad policies by both the Fed and the federal government. Biden has had a big part in both, with both parties of Congress in his pocket.

And Biden is also to blame for Ukraine. If he had made it clear that we would intervene and load up Ukraine with weapons, then Putin would never have invaded. It also would have made sense to escalate the weapons much faster and create a no-fly zone to push back Russia quickly. The longer Russia is in Ukraine, the harder it is for him to accept total defeat, which risks escalation.

The Democratic party ceased to be the part of the people a long time ago and now it is the part of the super-rich and the super dumb/stubborn. The super rich dominate the real policies of the party (pumping up industries with government money) and the super dumb are the ones they trick into believing the scraps from the table are the best they will get.

I find it hilarious that non business owners who don’t do business overseas won’t mention or haven’t noticed the 25% tariffs that both parties supported, bond yields that haven’t rose past $6 or the price of oil closer to $40 a barrel and not OPEC+ started goal of $130. It’s called stagnation and the assholes on both sides want it for the next two years. Why? China has stopped buying American t-bills. The economic arguments are disingenuous and lack proper context. Brexit was a mistake and so was starting a tariff war with the world. Lowering corporate tax rates to 9% around the world has created a zero sum game. We need crypto to work to free the people from the bankers like Jaime Dimon.
