The most-hyped USC-UCLA game since 1988 is no more after the Bruins lost to Arizona, 34-28.
But the start time is known: It will be at 5 p.m. and on Fox Network.
The game won’t be hyped for College Football Playoff implications. USC is the only team left in the Pac-12 with a chance because the Trojans have only one loss, unlike Oregon, Utah and UCLA.
But hey, Johnny Nansen is happy tonight! And Jedd the Fisch.
There are five teams that can still win the Pac-12: USC, UCLA, Oregon, Washington and Utah.

Depending upon what you follow (it’s FPI for me), about 6 of the top 20 offenses are in the Pac 12.
(also just might mean that 9 of the worst defenses are in the Pac. I dunno).

Bo Nix

Jaden Daniels (oops, he went to LSU…)

I was glad to see Oregon lose. I have never liked Oregon much. They are the Calvin Kleins of NCAA football. But I’m not so sure I was glad to see UCLA lose. I would have preferred that they struggle but win a close one. Losing this game will just make them come out next week at the Rose Bowl with fire in their nostrils because they don’t want to lose 2 in a row.Maybe the loss of Travis Dye will turn out to be more positive than we thought if the trojans take the attitude……”play the rest of this season for Travis”.

I guess SC has as good of a chance to win as UCLA. A lot depends upon how the ball bounces. But I’m not overly confident about the UCLA game. I have a lot more confidence in the ND game. ND is rated about 20 in the nation and that’s where they should be. I’m not overly impressed about ND.

DAMN DID I ENJOY WATCHING ALL THOSE pretend football fans lose up at Autzen yesterday. Quiet as hell. A school with no heritage of winning football–and a school with no heritage of educating America’s leaders–shown for “what they are.” Pretenders. Frontrunners. Stylish losers. The #370 (out of 780) ranked academic university in America.
Me? I like my Levi’s shrink to fit 501 button fly jeans. Since age 10–1971 or 2. No Calvin Kleins for me.
The Ducks had a clear pathway to the CFB playoff. UCLA, UW, Utah all at home. A winnable game a few miles down the road in Corvallis–where max cap’y is about 27,000 due to construction. A trip to Vegas for a tester Neutral site game.
A school for losers and frontrunner pretenders.
What a great Sunday!

That means the opponents scores 76.2 % of the time when they reached the SC red zone. The leader was SD State with 65.6% scores. Maybe I’m just reading this thing wrong

I don’t buy the idea that sucla losing to Arizona was bad news for SC inasmuch as the Westwooders will come in smoking mad; their confidence has been shaken and even beating SC does not assure them of being in the Pac12 Championship game if they should then lose to Cal up North while Washington wins out

SC is “in” with a victory over You-know-Who and the Trojans could still back-door in with a loss to sucla as follows:
sucla beats SC
sucla then loses to Cal
Washington then loses to Washington St

One week at a time….???
Surprises happen in CFB, but I never saw UCLA losing to the Fighting Fisch.
Irrespective, rivalry week is on.
The two offenses are equally matched.
Drevno, who no one on this site really liked, has coached up a pretty good looking O-line at UCLA. Without Gentry (GoForth got some reps in on Friday), USC and ‘Zona’s defense are pretty similar. So expect 450-500 yards from DTR and Charbonnet. DTR plays with a lot of heart, so expect him to shine in his last Home game. Chip is a great offensive schemer and has a ton of “DIPSY-DOODLE” plays and a QB who has been in the system for all 5 years. UCLA will put up 40+ points. The only way USC wins is by getting a few stops on 3rd and long/4th and short. (I only watched the first half of UCLA ZONA, but Zona got some stops on 3rd and 4th down. Way to go Nansen!)
As of today, UCLA’s defense ranks #78 out of 128 (per the computer). Chad Kau ha a a, who no one on this site really like, has not coached up much in his year at UCLA.
USC defense, after a better night vs CU is ranked #68. We were average at about #50 when Gentry and others were all together. We are all hoping that Tuli–and maybe Fig–have MEMORABLE NIGHTS at the Rose Bowl. The kinda nights where legends are made. If GEntry can just drop back and disrupt the crossing patterns (TE, etc) and spy on DTR and keep his scramble yds down, USC wins. He is not in game shape and not ready for 80 snaps…
Everyone here thinks a ST coach is imperative, and UCLA has a real ST coach! Per the Computer (ESPN FPI), UCLA’s special teams ranks #122 out of 128. USC, without a ST coach, is at #69. Hmmm.
We will all put in our marks for a score on Friday/Sat, but I’m leaning toward 45-42. I’ll give my Bourbon pick later this week!

Sorry but I am obsessed with the idea that SC could land that
No. 4 Spot in the “Final-4” if Troy can bring home the ‘Trifecta,’ now looking like more of a possibility after the Ducks’ and sucla’s failings
So say SC gets by the 3 games and the Trojans might be favored in all
What are the Trojans’ odds of getting an invite to the “Final-4?”
I say 3 spots are already taken by Georgia, Ohio St-Michigan winner, Ohio St-Michigan loser, the thinking being that both those teams are the best 1-Loss teams in the nation.
So only the No. 4 Spot is open and the only competition I see is between TCU and USC, with the others having been eliminated as previously explained.
That is worthy of repeating, if TCU loses 1 of their remaining difficult 2-games I believe SC gets that No. 4 Spot!– And you wonder why I am beside myself with the possibilities which seems most Trojans
underestimated

Tennessee has a better win than USC. USC has to prove they can compete with the top five and that defense is not a good as Tennessee defense. Plus Michigan can lose to the Buckeyes and beat out USC. Why? They made the playoffs last year and should meet Ohio St on a neutral field.
USC has to keep the Bruins or the Irish to ten points or less-and win to make a case for CFP consideration.

LJ agree with you, but we always know the CFP COMMITTEE, has a bias towards SEC, just look at this scenario which said on previous post. LSU for some wack reason upsets the DAWGS, then you would have the CFP Committee take a 3 loss LSU and Georgia taking a spot Ohio St Mich winner and TCU. Georgia would get the nod based SOS n SEC Bias.
