Morning Buzz: USC To Win Pac-12? Correct (Right Now)

I have to say at the moment I’m in agreement with the oddsmakers right now about USC winning the Pac-12.

It has to do with two things: Caleb Williams should be the eraser to overcome the defense in many situations while Oregon seems to find a way to stumble when it shouldn’t. On paper, the Ducks have a lot of good parts. But it’s still hard to forget the losses to Washington and Oregon State last season.

A wild-card is Washington. Can it put two really good seasons together? Can Michael Penix stay healthy? The Huskies will be at the Coliseum on Nov. 4.

A caveat: The schedule is noticeably tougher this season, so if Williams can’t overcome the defense one week, it could really hurt USC.

This is a May opinion. It could change. But right now, USC looks like the leader. This also has nothing to do with how I feel about the College Football Playoff, which is an entirely different matter.

  • USC women’s water polo lost to Stanford, 11-9, in the NCAA championship Sunday night.

You know who probably finds that amusing? Jovan Vavic. USC has won just one NCAA title in water polo since he left. Vavic won 16 titles at USC from 1992-2019.

Because USC lost, the media fanboys didn’t say a word about the result (of course).

  • Lincoln Riley is a country music fan. Big surprise. He was at a Kenny Chesney concert in Greenville, S.C., in late April. Also at the show: Clemson coach Dabo Swinney.

  1. SC is loaded at every position. Despite that fact, I still have a hard time believing that they will win the last 6 games of this regular season. I’d be shocked if they didn’t lose one of those games. I hope I’m wrong.

      1. There are a lot of good(not great) QB’s out there who could lead a talented USC team to a NC. Georgia has won 2 NC’s in a row with a QB who is way less than great(in fact, he was originally a walk-on). His career in the NFL will be short. I still don’t think that SC will stop pursuing him. It’s still a long way from the time when he will sign a LOI and if SC has a great year in 2023, there are a lot of reasons why he might want to flip.

We learned Mary Lyman, aviator and badminton champion, looks just like Lawyer John’s wife…. and tebow had 3 serious mental breakdowns over some of us still going to church….oh, and Scott pointed out another mistake in a USC press release…which made Ken mad…cuz…. it’s better we let stuff like that go unnoticed….and there was a photo of Carol kinda making a fool of herself at graduation… and Scott had to take a bunch of shit …cuz… it’s all his fault football season hasn’t started yet….
      [btw, I hope Cal75 doesn’t see the odds on Cal winning the Pac 12—on the bright side —things look great for Cal in The Big Game]……

      #How soon rah-rah’s forget last years chump debacle in Vegas and the TULANE defeat. I just can’t get over LOL at the last bozo offensive play in the Tulane game. SUCC lateraled the about 10 times and gained maybe a yd. LR’s incredible steamroller (Here you take it.) offense, as it were.

  7. USC has no excuses. The players have gotten older and stronger. They also have more competition for playing time. Grinch needs to coach like there’s a gun to his head. Hopefully, Riley calls more straight vertical strikes, especially seam routes to the middle.

  8. Well I read this morning, in a SCNG newspaper that USC lost to Stanford in the NCAA water polo championship, 11-9. I was sad for a moment until I realized the story wasn’t posted by a fanboy. It was in the sports that aren’t really sports section. I have heard and may someday believe that water polo was invented during a volleyball game held as entertainment awaiting the launch of Noah’s Ark.
    As for USC being picked to win the PAC 12, that’s nothing new. I pick them every year, and sometimes I get it right. Other times I have facts like Claydough Helton or cheating democrat referees. But they are facts I can’t change.

    I doubt Vavic is loving much of anything these days, as he spends most of his time in court fighting charges of racketeering and bribery.

    Since you think you’re so cute calling anyone who finds any sense of joy in supporting USC Athletics, fanboys, I’m pretty sure we all know there’s a different kind of F Boy that you fit the mold. F Boys like you love themselves more than anything. I’m sure you’ll love opining about the Glory Days of SC when our former President, Deans, and coaches were busy burning the school to the ground in pursuit of not leaving a single penny behind.
