USC Elects Captains

USC announced that linebacker Cameron Smith, center Toa Lobendahn, linebacker Porter Gustin and safety Marvell Tell were elected team captains.

This is the second straight season three defensive captains and only one offensive captain was chosen.

    1. We are all looking forward to what new ‘surprise’ comes from Coach Alford and his boys then again I think nothing will top those three last year in Beijing what?

        It’s impossible to understand Alvie’s incoherent rants so how is it possible to “like” them?
        Alvie is like that guy you see at the bus stop stand that looks like he’s on a cell phone but when you get closer you see he’s speaking in tongues to himself in a language that only makes sense to him. He snapped somewhere back in high school and all he can relate to is his superiors and tormentors from the early 70’s.
        Probably bullied in high school while he was watching Coach and Kareem beat his team like a rug.

        If Johnny Cheetin’ Wooden was here along with Gilbert, ugly would be suspended, stripped, and riducled for being the biggest cheeting program of all time. Oh, they were and still are to this day. The only problem is/was, Wooden and Gilbert and ugly were not busted by the ncaa.

      1. If the “one” win is Stanford, Karma, USC is in good shape in the Pac 12—-and that might be the best we can hope for with a true frosh qb (although —let’s face it —-it would be harder than shit to lose to UNLV).

      3. It’s gonna be 1-2 for SC. The qb will be sacked around 18 times for the 3 games, against Texas, on the 2 yard line, they will have a single back who will be stopped three times while losing yardage, and the oline will crap all over themselves not knowing who to block while the rb’s and qb are demolished. Helton should have fired the three stooges (oline, db, and oc) back in January. We are stuck with the three clowns and they have not learned from last year.

  5. Unrelated Note: Luginbill and Greg McIlroy on College Football Live both cited USC as being the most overrated in the AP Poll. Neither thinks SC should be in the Top 25. They primarily cite the freshman QB. (Funny, they didn’t get too worked up about Georgia or Alabama last year with their Frosh QBs in the Nattie….) I think all these morons will be eating their words when JT becomes that generational QB. (If he does, which I hope he does.) They’re dogging SC’s depth, when this is the deepest team in years (beyond the O-Line). Great position to be in – national talking heads doubting you. Got to shove it down their throats, Trojans….

    2. Doesn’t College Football Live ever get tired of being wrong? Their football commentary is a joke. USC will be very strong at quarterback [if Clay makes the obvious choice], receiver, tailback, d-line and linebacker —-and that should be enough to put us in the running for a major bowl [but not the playoffs—you need a secondary and o-line for that].

      1. Solid analysis. We can only hope the O-Line will come together. The fact that the D-Line is so strong is refreshing for a change. There’s also very little coverage about our top 3 receivers – arguably the best in the nation? Zero coverage of St. Brown.

      2. Exactly we need players who know what their job is. If we get blocking and maybe a little interception now and then, I think we can prove a lot of people wrong.

If USC plays the kind of football it’s capable of (and gets a couple of officiating breaks here or there —the kind of thing that didn’t happen in South Bend or the Cotton Bowl where every questionable turn over call went against us), we should win the conference and go on to win a major bowl [and Helton will be coach for 10 more years and Karma will have to watch everybody kiss his ass].

        Oh, ugly has never been ranked Number 1 in preseason and they literally backed into the 1/2 championship by not playing the Buckeyes in the 1954 Rose Bowl. They sat at home while the Rose Bowl game was going on. But as usual, the ruins love backing in into things.

      Alv and I seem (to the ears of Bruin grads) to be speaking in tongues —but actually we’re speaking a language taught to us by a Magician named Merlin. UCLA women find it irresistible [I’ve heard sometimes they are impregnated by the very sound of it].

    1. Apparently you disagree with basketball experts who named him an All American as both a player and coach.
      Apparently you choose to ignore he coached more teams to National Championships than any other in his sport.
      Apparently you choose to consider what his former players say about Coach.
      Then again, I doubt anyone has ever accused you of either being an expert or being very bright.

  8. SC does not deserve to be ranked. We have seen it for the last two years on how Martin calls his plays and how the oline blocks. It will be the same this year. Until they hire competent coaches for the oline, oc coordinator, and db coach, SC will be marginally good.

    1. I respectfully disagree with you Pasadena Trojan. BTW this is SAS. But I don’t think Martin is the problem or has been the problem. I would say the OLine needs to play like they were born with a pair because we were soft. Viane went down and they looked lost. Drevno should make us a tougher.

      And I think it’s time for Clancy Pendergast to earn a paycheck. Helton called him a championship level DC. I say he was blessed by the man upstairs to have Kurt Warner get him and his defense to the Super Bowl. Adoree Jackson made him look better with his speed & athleticism. BKU’s young DLine led the nation in sacks last season while Pendergast failed to elevate the play of 5th year Senior Chris Hawkins. Still hasn’t corrected any Marshall’s bad habits and Jack Jones failed to show any kind of promise. He was allowed to play free and undisciplined during games.

      Neil Callaway & Clancy Pendergast have to get it going.
