    1. The Science is Settled: White officers are not more likely to shoot minority civilians than non-White officers.

We did not find evidence for anti-Black or anti-Hispanic disparity in police use of force across all shootings, and, if anything, found anti-White disparities when controlling for race-specific crime. While racial disparity did vary by type of shooting, no one type of shooting showed significant anti-Black or -Hispanic disparity. The uncertainty around these estimates highlights the need for more data before drawing conclusions about disparities in specific types of shootings.

But Public Enemy would have been appropriate last week. While we’re at it any RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE would have all of Los Angeles in the streets!

      1. I remember a day when USC didn’t need to be propped up by the media, or hyped by network shills, nor elevated before earning it. Such are the times I suppose. Kid throws a decent ball to recievers covered by db’s spotting 10yd cushions and he’s the next Otto Graham. Manufactured reality is what you’re left with when clay is steering the west coast flagship program into iceberg after iceberg. Subtract the Slovis story and tv ratings will be crickets. Home Depot ain’t fond of crickets…

I could go as far as to call it tormented, so I can’t even do my normal “know-it-all football guy” thing and I can’t do your post justice. I’m sorry.

Rich, greedy people do it too, but they are better at it and more polished. The guy who is trying to reach out to you is packing his bags and is about to get on the last smoker out of here, cowboy.

You know the difference between a poor black person who steals $50 from a store and a rich white person who steals $50 million from a pension fund? I’m guilty for what the black guy did, but you’re not guilty for what the white guy did.

Let me ask you a question, Champ… If you’re a white person and you vote the same way neo-Nazis and white supremacist do every opportunity you get, how do I know the difference between him and you? Next question: Does it even make sense for me to try and make a distinction when the result for me is the same if you win? Can you appreciate that I try to give you the benefit of the doubt in this? Can you appreciate that you never give me the benefit of the doubt because there’s never been a doubt in your mind about me and people like me?

  4. The great Scotty Bowman famously said “statistics are for losers”. Of course he was a coach who understood you don’t throw the rest of the team under the bus for the sake of one, ala Harrell and our defense. Guess it’s easier to make hype vids about gaudy statistical efforts than it is balanced, winning, team play… offense doesn’t happen in a vaccum, nor does justice.

    1. Probably should be watching less football and more hockey. Why do the nfl, mlb, nba spend so much on their statistical analysis? This is so dumb it doesn’t fly in the stiffest of winds. Why not check the number of analysts that are carried by clemson – bama – lsu.

      Liked by 1 person

      1. NHL has their share of analysts as well. Taken in context, Scotty B’s quote isn’t challenging whether or not statistics have value. It was issued as a caution against soley relying on statistics for purposes of arriving at a conclusion about an individual players true contribution towards a team win. Something Bowman managed to accomplish 1,248 times, as player, coach, & executive. Oh ya, almost forgot to mention them wins led to 14 champeenships in a sport that doesn’t give you 45sec to figure out what’s comin next in the flow of game play. Toughest trophy to win in all of sport wasn’t a tagline created by a pair of 20 something video editors. And if you drill down a couple layers into the analysts at LSU for example, you’ll find they weight the gathered stats against something decidedly non-numerical: the players personal character, that of his family, his team, and believe or not, in instances where a particular h.s. program has sent multiple players to LSU over the years, the weigh character of a town/area. Tommy Moffett & Ed O’s development forecast model that accounts for personal character (the player beyond the stats) when applied historically to something like the last 15 nfl drafts turns out to be the most accurate predictor of NFL careers that last/lead until 2nd contract time. The NFL has taken notice and commented on publicly. Stats on steroids to spin a phrase. LSU has invested heavily in determining what correlations exist between person and performance, how they evaluate and recruit accordingly, and lastly, how they create personally tailored training programs for those who decide to wear the jersey in hopes of maximizing that players full potential to whatever end goal(s) they have. I’m not sure what our analysts do. I’m not even sure clay can spell analyst without spell check.

      5. Thank you C. Russell. Crazy as it seems, bantering back forth with others who may have a screw or two that needs tightening, keeps me relatively sane. I think…

P76: within the same 100m race, statistics (uh, time in this case) used solamente can be exclusively relied on to tell you who was fastest in that particular race, or versus other races with comparable condidtions, etc. The statistic of time by itself in this instance wouldn’t be the best indicator of who (out of those race participants) might be fastest out of the group in 8wks. All sorts of additional data would have to be factored in… some hard/fast, some observational, some subjective. Many things besides the physical paint on a palette went into the Mona Lisa. My beef is when someone says “slovis completed x% of his passes on 2nd down that traveled y# of yards at a rate higher than burrow, ergo he’s gonna be yada, yada, etc”.
In another life I provided some scouting info on bantam aged hockey players in advance of the WHL draft. I used to tell overzealous parents who’d proudly point to their kids statistical achievements leading up to draft year while selling their kid as the next Crosby: “wait until he gets his first blowjob, then we can talk”. Measurables are the easy thing to wrap our heads around. It’s the other shit that gives folks gray hair.
And just for the record, I don’t know shit about shit. 1.5 ex wives would gladly attest to that fact.

      6. Analytics isn’t about taking one race and predicting an outcome, that will hold make you an observer not an analyst. Taking a trend over an extended period, is he gaining or losing a step, or what plays to what side on which down from which formation might just give us tendencies we can exploit. But hey, of course arguing with those guys who have won professional championships and found it so successful that they hire guys to self scout. Ask Belichick. You know Chuck Knoll never used instant video, nor did he use the catapult tracking vests, nor did he use MRIs to evaluate the injuries to his players. Doesn’t mean he was a bad coach, just an old coach. I’ll put it to you to find me any successful team whose coach shuns the use of data. You think there might be a reason.
I’ll say again, maybe you should stick with hockey reruns.

    A love, a love on a stage
    With a young child’s eyes
It happens all wrong and only
Half of it’s seen from here

    Where’s all the time gone?
On separate waves it runs long
A hundred miles built upon us
It’s tearing at the seams of all that’s been
It’s tearing at the seams of all that’s been

    I’ll wait, is this a [?]
Or am I walking into the sand?
    Now these lies will spread
Until we’re choking on the innocent

Well, half of us tied and
    Half of us in chains
    We’ll cover our eyes and
We’ll cover our mouths just the same

    Where has the time gone?
In separate ways it’s running long

Well trojanboogs, as i said before this is a movement against police brutality who is supposed to be protecting life and not taking life but since people seem to always want to steer away from that truth i will entertain you. Black Americans have been beaten and oppressed since the beginning of this country’s history they also were not paid a livable wage after serving in the same wars and dying for this same country. Now put oppressed people with no money in a community and violence among each other will happen because people do not have adequate food, clothing or living conditions. Actually, it is called conditioning! The forefathers and founders of this country knew exactly what they were doing because some did not want slavery to end in the first place. Now to answer you’re question.
BLACK ON BLACK CRIME = Jail Time
BLUE ON BLACK CRIME = No Jail Time (and government pays for it)

How do you blame the white man for holding you down? Start protesting black on black and you will get more respect. If all black lives matter. How come you only protest when Cops kill a black man. Cops kill white people more than black people and there are statistics to back that up. The police need to stop their brutality and shoot first ask questions later system on all American citizens. The only ones that have the right to claim they are oppressed are Native American Indians (most still live on reservations to this day.) Im a quarter Native American Indian by the way. This is 2020 not 1864 or 1964. There isn’t a plantation any more that these coddled sports athletes call it. Who are making millons of dollars to play a game. Black people are the ones that started slavery on their own people back in Africa before The USA was even founded. How many other people come from other countries and make it here and are well off. They don’t complain because they took every opportunity and freedoms that they are offered to make it here. Why do you think so many people are trying to get in our country at our southern border, illegally everyday.

Better get with The Lincoln Project folks…

    1. Guys, you’re trying to show me a grain of sand from a world that doesn’t exist. (I know you don’t understand that reference and that’s why we’ll be done after this) If I thought you guys had the supramarginal gyrus or basic understanding to relate, I would just tell you my story and you would see a side of America that is not taught at USC.

These individual things you guys use to confirm your world view are the predictable results of systemic disenfranchisement of HUMAN BEINGS. The “animals” they are a reflection of are called “Homo Sapiens” and it technically includes you guys. The difference is that, in a sense, you have had the curse of entitlement without the blessing of disenfranchisement. It means that you HAVE more, but you ARE less. I know you won’t get any of that either.

We all have these prejudices because we’re all human, but some of us understand that we have to dig deep to find the humanity IN us in order to overcome the humanity OF us. I’m sorry you two aren’t curious traveler enough to ever find your way there. Anyway, have a nice trip where you’re going and don’t bother to pack your outerwear. I tried, we’re done.

P.S: I think my next long and poorly written screed is going to be about entitlement vs merit. Thanks for the idea, guys.

  14. Nobody is entitled to anything in life. You earn it by the opportunities and freedoms you have in this great country. Every one is human and can make decisions and choices that affect their lives. God gave us reasoning to understand this. Goes back to the beginning of our existence as a human race. There’s too much blaming and I am the victim roll going on that people can’t stand. Here’s some simple logic for you as a human. You will get no where in life if you constantly blame others because you will not find better solutions. That better your life. That simple, Simpleton. What’s crazy is most of you have a college education on this site and still don’t understand simple logic. Enough with the race baiting and nonsense already. Some get it some don’t.
I was almost shot and killed by a police officer when I was 19 for cutting him off when making a u-turn. While out cruising with my friends. He had me get out of the car and get out on my knees with my hands in the air. My 3 friends in the car watching what was going on. He was shaking so much. I thought he was going shoot me in the chest. Why because of the car I drove a 64 impala. He stereotyped me, thought I was a gang member which I an not. I don’t hold any grudges against law enforcement for that lone incident. Good thing he got another call, let me go and told me to go home. That’s life. Could of been my number. Thank God it wasn’t.
