Devin Brown, the highly touted QB who has been committed to USC, changed his mind today.
Brown just took visits to Ohio State and Texas so this is not a surprise. But the USC recruiting class is in shambles until a new coach comes and tries to get some commitments.

Really, why would he stay committed? When I see Bryce Young at Alabama breaking records, I understand. Without a coach named, with no OL and a horrible defense, a lost locker room why would any talent choose SC?

Bryce Young was the killer. You tell me that Brown was satisfied with
Clay Helton as the coach. Offensive line has started to play well.
Ingram running well, team scored 33 pts. which should have been
enough to win.

This, and the inevitable future pitfalls, for this once extremely proud program should not surprise anyone. A sad, sad time. My only hope is in maybe a couple years we can all look back on this time and laugh at what we were.

I believe that someday we will look back on the Helton years of poor SC play and laugh. oh4, but I also believe it will take more than “maybe a couple years.” Yes, I am told some coaches like McKay and Carroll were rolling in their 3rd year and 2nd year respectively. But it seems that quick turnout is harder to pull off in this day-and-age, at least partly due to so many schools having a large core of very good players.
So SC will have a new coach for 2022, at least in theory. SC will have another poor recruiting class on its hands, so 2022 is a bust. If the Trojans’ newby pans out, then SC’s recruiting should pick up in 2023 and 2024, with 2025 finally being the break-out year, and marking the return of the true Trojan football team we used to know. I hope.
Enjoy, oh4, because I probably will have checked out by then, from earth I mean.

Anyway, I digress, as usual, but Bourbon, I got my booster shot last night. I know I will be finished some day, but I am going down fighting and working until there is nothing left in these old bones.
And as for you Michael Guarino, wipe that silly grin off your face, because, well, of course you are thankful, living the high life on Maui. I hate guys like you.

Happy Actual Thanksgiving to John…and all the folks who make this place such undisciplined fun.
[Note to John — Never worry about what’s coming next, just enjoy the moment —like my 11 year old buddies and I did when we hid on Tom Sawyer’s Island at Disneyland after closing…. and had to be dragged off by Disney Security and placed on a bus home].

All things considered, I don’t blame the kid with all the upheaval going on right now but there’s a much bigger trend in college football today. These guys all want their 15 minutes of fame over and over again. Most of these flakes don’t know the meaning of “commitment.” I wouldn’t hold my breath for any of them, because in today’s world – once a couple of players do it, then there’s no shame for the rest. It’s all about their brand – “Hey everybody! Look at me!” Too bad the attention isn’t from the quality of play. That’s exactly why SC doesn’t put the names on the backs of the jerseys. If a fan wants to know your name, they’ll buy a program. In addition, if you play up to all of your hype, people will find out your name in a hurry.By the way – how did all that posturing work out for Korey Foreman? #Head’sInTheWrongPlace

I would liken Carol Folt’s effect on USC to chemical castration. She’s basically emasculated Mike Bohn, not that he had goods to begin with.

I don’t know why you thought it was necessary to specify the “chemical” variety, Charles…..

Carol Folt doesn’t want to get actual blood on her hands, let alone actual male bits and pieces. I was going to say something about female genital mutilation, but I’m guessing Carol is against that. Unlike chemical castration of male USC students. Let’s turn them all into eunuch’s.

Hey Mike, I like Mr. Smith, but how did he find out that Bohn has no goods?

Yeah, I picked up on that too, but to give the kid a break I do not believe he meant it that way. But then again, maybe he did.

That’s even more reason and pressure on the AD and adminisrators to pay good money to bring in a great coach. After they lose the next 2 games, there should be even more pressure. It’s amazing to me that SC is now 67th and Texas is just as bad and maybe even worse and they are still number 7 in the nation recruiting.

Texas is certainly not afraid to spend money. I hear Sark might be out after one year(though I doubt it)

Yeah, well, Texas has a long history of loving their football, so they probably have more “eligible” footballers than even over-populated California, because our boys prefer soccer and hanging with the girls.

Mike Bohn will probably fuck up the hiring process and be the last of the bunch to name a head coach. And that in itself will most definitely screw up the recruiting class, Bohn is just that kinda guy

I hope Bohner doesn’t hire early to avoid recruit losses if he can get Aranda or Fickell, or some other unknown quality entity. Screw these decommits, hiring the besr coach is better than worrying about the short term wait and losing 17 year old high school high school players. Yes, recruiting is the lifeblood of a program but then again, how great has Korey Foreman been?
LikeLiked by 2 people
Agree. The right hire must be the top priority. The concern here is that the game of musical chairs is being played and if he doesn’t get the right coach then we’re back on the “Helton-like” merry-go-round – hire the wrong guy then “Can’t/don’t want” to can him due to expected large payout.
While the long wait may screw up the recruiting class from a High School perspective, that can be partially offset by the transfer portal – OL and DL should definitely be targeted here; due diligence is the key here as shown by the Sopsher transfer that was a bust. Kingsley Suamataia, 5-star OL recruit with the Ducks, entered the portal – go after him had if the due diligence supports it, if he’s a head case then move onto the next guy.

Thanks to the current state of affairs with Trojan football I’ve found myself with some bonus time to ponder this & that, resulting in an adjustments to the Boxisbento Thanksgivin’ Family Festa… Starting immediately, the wearing of Turkey Hats are mandatory for all family members & unwitting guests in attendance. Anytime:
1. a games on the tube, or
2. anyone is holding an adult bev, and/or
3. someones eating something,
You gotta have an approved Turkey Hat on. Turkey Hats are defined as some headwear with a turkey attached on top.
Also spent some time at Michael’s crafts store to find a turkey to wear. No way I show sans-turkey after proposing the deal. I’d catch shit all night from baby bros wife. She’s like goddamn Don Rickles when she gets rollin. Got to the store to discover turkeys at Michaels is like Trojan defense in 2021: none to be found. Had to audible. Explained Turkey Hats to swing shift crew, earned approval, they acknowledged they were light on turkey stuff, but they think they might have an acceptable sub. Tomorrow I’ll be wearing the top half of a styrofoam pumpkin on my head. I’m a pushover for enthusiasm and a smile.
Anyhow, thankful to anyone to anyone who takes time to read one mans dream about Turkey Hats. We all got em’… dreams that is, not turkey hats. Hope all of y’all have the best of Thanksgivings manana!
P.s. Makers Mark is encouraging me to post a tune about things you sometimes end up grateful for in the long run. Fight On!

this is what happens after yrs of 3rd rate coaches…who is going to believe sc is going to go after a 1st rate coach and staff…maybe the BOS ,folt and AD will spend the large sum necessary, maybe they will not…’til then expect lots of 2-3 star athletes being interested.

Interesting.
There are 1st rate coaches, and there are 2nd rate coaches, and finally, there are 3rd rate coaches (aka SC coaches)

Oh good, we are down at the bottom of the barrel with Wolf’s latest posting. Golly gee, Wolfie, thanks for the warm send-off into the Holiday with the proclamation of SC losing a star quarterback recruit. Just so warm and fuzzy of you.
(Am I going too far with the needling, because it got me kicked off the other blog, but Wolf is the man, he can take it, and then he will take a bit more. ‘Give me your best shot,’ is Wolf’s favorite line)

Why would he want to sit behind Dart for 2 years? If Slovis had a good year then he might have thought that he’d beat out Dart next season. But now that Dart has shown what he’s capable of, he figures he can go somewhere where he can play right away.

Things I am thankful for today: the memory and knowledge USC had 50+ years of football dominance, or at very minimum, respectability (prior to Haden being AD at least), that I was able to witness and revel in my time.
Things I am hopeful for tomorrow: Bohn, head of our Athletic Department, acquires the gumption and attitude to open the USC checkbook so wide as to be unignorable to either Urban or Dave; or that a coaching search similar to what the L.A. Rams did when they hired their HC McVey is carried out (based on merit and acumen and drive, and not entirely on perception, and not at all on woke values).
